Gulliver's Travels in process mining land
What do you like best about the product?
There are a lot of things, some of which are:
Firstly, being able to see for the first time how our order to cash processes really look like and becoming aware of the many existing process variations is quite a revealing experience –
for top management as well as for process owners.
Getting information about KPIs like automation rates and throughput times for any step in the process within any data constellation based on data from the ERP-System is something we do not want to miss anymore.
Secondly, the user interface is well-thought-out and fun working with. Setting filters on any attribute or data field and getting real time response from Celonis is outstanding.
Thirdly, the project for the technical implementation of Celonis within our company was frictionless. Data validation ate up a lot of project time but was worth the effort.
And finally, the support of Celonis and our chosen implementation partner is flawless.

What do you dislike about the product?
The following points are not things I especially dislike about Celonis.
They should be reminders of obstacles we had and still must overcome to reap the benefits of process mining in general and implications one must be aware of when embarking on data-based process mining.
Firstly, big improvements might be achievable without a process mining tool because they are so obvious to the organization and might have been already fixed in past.
What remains are the “left over potentials” in much smaller size pertaining to value. So, to gain measurable benefits one must be prepared to implement a lot of smaller process improvement projects, each providing a bit of value. The benefit will be visible as the sum of the value of those realized projects will increase. It is like Gulliver who is tied up by thousands of strings in Lilliput. Cutting or loosening any string only has small value. But once you solved a critical mass of small problems you can really improve your organizations process performance.
Secondly, one cannot put process mining into practice as an en passant activity.
An organization must commit resources to this area on a regular basis. The topic is much too complex to have it carried out part time.
So, clear responsibilities and a decision from top management to allocate capacity of the work force to process mining are success factors which come with a cost.
Finally, you might not have the personnel with the skill and/or mind set required for working with a process mining tool.
Taking time for exploration, developing a curiosity of underlying correlations and delving deeper and narrower into the processes and data is a skill which is scarcely found
in companies where problem solving with quick fixes is the norm.

What do you like best about the product?
The tool underlines hypothesis with facts. With this information a the discussion basis in workshops changes drastically. This means by conducting a workshop with a data foundation the potential for arguments is smaller.
What do you dislike about the product?
The value creation is a bit harder than proposed. However this is not a matter of the tool itself, it is how you use it. Also we have experience there is a different level of curiosity and adaption to the information process mining provides across different cultures.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Create transparency, increase automation, reduce non value added system activities.

Once we get data, we can quickly model the process and leverage pre existing analysis to shorten our time to value.

Takes alot of time to internally get data. Cannot simulate changes or improvements

Order to Cash, Procure to Pay, SFDC Case Management, Manufacturing. We've been able to find inefficiencies in our processes and specific team based improvement plans
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Need to take into account the internal change management, long term improvement efforts and how to get data prior to starting process mining.
Excellent customer experience, both with the use of software and Celonis team support.
What do you like best about the product?
Very good experience both with the use of the software and with the support of the celonis team. The team is always available to help in whatever is necessary, from the first steps to the most complex developments, always involving a lot of professionalism, wisdom and commitment.
What do you dislike about the product?
The complexity of development of some analysis and PQL formulas.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can have a friendly view of our processes in an integrated way, which helps us make decisions to improve our processes and gain more productivity. In addition, we configure e-mail alerts sent directly by the Celonis software whenever a pre-established condition is reached, helping in quick decision-making, mitigating some bottlenecks in the process.
And with the online interface, we can keep up with our process from whatever we are.

There should be more information of the applications within the ems store. In that respect it would be nice to get more discribing text and a listing of the tables and conditions that must be met in order to build up the data model

the process explorer. It should be much more matured in terms of showing clearly (aggregated bottlenecks) regarding the Process Domain Performance (KPI's) . It also should be limited to process variation as the number of activities, not the number of connections necessarily, or it should be possible that an easy filter can be applied to deselect certain process activity characteristics (select/deselect SOX activities, standard process activities, commercial activities, quality activities , etc.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Process Performance monitoring on ERP processes (O2C, P2P, AP, AR, INV, PROD) SNOW, SFDC, MES.
Improvements: Customer Lead Time, ITO, AP on time payments and process efficiency, customer complaints handling, etc. In roll-out: Footprint analysis, E2E supply chain improvements.

Recommendations to others considering the product:
1) define clear business goals/objectives. 2) set up a clear governance structure. 3) secure top executive sponsor. 4) build strong technical competence with experienced people. 5) ensure Business and IT alignment on long term goals. 6) set up multidisciplinary team with domain experts on Business Processes, Applications and Data & Analytics .
Demanding ramp-up phase BUT incredible helpful in generating process transparency
What do you like best about the product?
Celonis helps to display complex processes in a transparent way. Especially the speed in identifyfing process paths which do not match with the defined process standards is outstanding. Furthermore Celonis gives you the ability to drill down from the whole data set, e.g. of 2 years, to a rather specific data set with just those showing the "friction" in a certain processes is extremly helpful.
Especially the different abilities to filter through the data are very helpful. You can define specific process patterns and the set of cases fulfilling the restrictions will be generated. Based on that set single cases can be selected and examined in the ERP-System together with the assistance of Celonis. The ability to find a selection of cases meeting certain criteria and the ability to examine them very fast is a real driver for finding friction in processes.
The graphical programming opportunity for the actual analysis is very helpful. It gives you the ability to modify existing tables very fast and helps to implement new components which address further analysis question easily.

What do you dislike about the product?
The basic idea in Celonis is that you connect it to your ERP-System. Based on the actions taken place, this means that specific fields in the tables of your ERP-System has been addressed, Celonis builts up an activity table. That activity table is the backbone of the whole process mining model. So in fact you need very good skills in SQL in order to build up that acitvity table. If you could not provide those skills in-house you have to get them by deploying a consulting company, which provides them. Often this generates high costs. It is desirable that Celonis implements a more easy way, e.g. an graphical coding opportunity to build the required activity table. Especially for customers who have a highly customized ERP-/SAP-System this would give them the ability to build up the backbone of their data mining model on their own, which on the on hand side increases the understanding for the data mining model and on the other hand side save high costs in the implementation and validation phase.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly we address the problem of generating process transparency. We feel that we have an enormous number of paths/ variants in order to get a specific thing done. Celonis is able to show this high number of paths. So we can identify rather disirable paths and non-disarble. The idea is that Celonis is used as a tool in order to ensure that we will take the easy and efficient way, which we have identified with Celoins, in the future to getting things done. Furthermore we want to use Celonis as an assistance tool, e.g. to ensure that we use all the available cash discounts. This will directly save us important money.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend every company having a lack of process tranparency to contact Celonis. Once you recognize the potential of process mining and in fact the potential of Celonis for your organization you will wish to deploy it. I think in the end you will see Celonis not as a software which is deployed for a specific time in order to achive some project goals - You will come to the mind that Celonis or a process mining software is a constant companion in daily business in order to achive sustainable process efficiency.
Trying to improve customer experience with the application and show the potential benefits.
What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy the process mining experience by "playing" with the process/variant explorer. I can drill down to such a detailed level so that the customer is convinced and at the same time impressed by the power of the tool. Procurement is back as a major player in P2P, thanks to Celonis.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would like to see more PQL formulas available and faster processing times for complex calculations in front end.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Everything from P2P process. Currently working on GR/IR accounts clearing reporting. Last month we implemented the Supply chain exposure for our P2P NatCos.

a) Process explorer is a great idea to see your waste of the processes
b) Process around the software. It is not only making the improvement, it's more about how we can find improvement, change the process and monitor the weakness point. I like the improvement cycle
c) Process automation: it is a again a nice and important feature, which is allowed us to aware of the issue on time and be able to simplify the processes.
d) Customer success manager: a good service to think with the customer and give support as much as possible to the customer in order to be able to create success together.

a) Chart has not yet have rich functionality like Excel.

a) When you start with Celonis, use small and quick use cases as many as possible. It will create a impression to the user how easy they can approach the improvement by the software even with improvement like 2 Euro saving / year
b) Create an example to user is much better than words. The ideas is most abstract things, which not a lot of can immediately understand it. What we found the most efficient way is to create an example use case and let people to "taste" the sweet part and more ideas will come afterwards immediately.
