Pantheon + J.N. Equipment = 99.9% Uptime & Increased Sales

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon has great support that is always available, open to your input and very knowledgeable. There is not one staff member that was not educated or could not help me out.

Their multiple application environment combined with Varnish, Redis and other speed solutions including a second database on the Elite plan boosts site speed like there is no tomorrow. Our homepage loading time is now between 0.8-1.2 seconds depending on your browser and internet speed.

Our sales doubled YoY since implementing Pantheon.
What do you dislike about the product?
Their proprietary CLI system, Terminus, runs only on Linux. So if you have a windows PC you have to go an extra mile installing a Linux shell and doing quite some other work.

It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. Depending on the package you need, the price can obviously vary. We are running an Elite plan and are very happy with it.

You cannot directly FTP into the live server as you will keep getting bounced around on the application servers which will prevent you from editing files, deleting or adding them. Instead you need to make everything happen on the development site and push it through. This can get annoying for E-Commerce sites as you can't import directly products either. We had to make a custom REST API application to constantly update our WooCommerce products in bulk.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had *a lot* of visitors on our old installation as we were ramping up marketing and success, this brought our site down every few hours. Ever since switching to Pantheon we experience almost 0% downtime and can keep collecting sales with our site while providing superior loading times to our visitors.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have uptime issues, consider Pantheon! Gateway 5xx errors in particular as those are server-side. If you run WordPress or Drupal, Pantheon has some of the greatest team to help you out!

Excellent Drupal hosting solution

  • March 19, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon empowers non-technical people (marketing, executives...) with the ability to handle properly their Drupal/Wordpress hosting. Great features include:
- A dev, testing and production environments are included by default with no configuration
- the ability to work both with GIT and SFTP lets marketing upload their assets and make minor changes while the technical team can use a traditional workflow
- backups are handled out of the box
- DNS configuration is handled super easily
- DB read and write access is handled super easily
- a CDN comes by default, contributing to a general improvement of performance
What do you dislike about the product?
Pantheon is yet to find a good pricing policy. The current displayed pricing is based on traffic which is not a relevant marker of costs incurred at the pantheon level.
There is no way to configure the CDN (or it is a very costly option), which does not let the customer block malicious traffic.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We got rid of the need of a DevOps.
We empowered the team with the ability to handle:
- DB cloning
- website creation
- DNS change
- backup restoring
Recommendations to others considering the product:
The Pantheon platform has a great impact of speeding up everything regarding Drupal development. The team is so empowered that their productivity has really doubled.

Well thought-our hosting and development workflow

  • March 18, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon makes it easy to develop and maintain sites, and keep them stable. A lot of well-thought-out features like the git workflow and multidev. They’ve saved me dozens of hours per year compared to other hosts.
What do you dislike about the product?
Weird restrictions like an old version of WPCLI that made migration a pain, and Mac-only support in a few cases. The included New Relic plan is so, so limited and less useful in some cases than other (free!) services like uptimerobot.com.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Site outages are a thing of the past. No more testing on the live server. No more accidental plugin updates that ruin parts of the site.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Preferred pricing is nice. If you’re an agency, your partner manager might be overwhelmed but the support team can answer many questions that are in the gray area between what the partner manager handles and what support handles.

Pantheon offers an excellent service, ideal for a creative studio

  • March 18, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
24x7 support and its sandboxed dev/test/live environments
What do you dislike about the product?
The price can be offputting for people accustomed to cheap hosting
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do not need to hire anyone with dev-ops experience or system engineering, so we can focus on front-end development and design.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Consider the yearly cost of service vs hiring an experienced dev-ops expert, you will see a big difference in yearly cost.

Professional High Quality Web Hosting

  • March 18, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon goes above and beyond in many areas -- security, caching, customer service. The standout feature for me is the git-based workflow with multiple staging environments.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a slight learning curve to get used the workflow.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Pantheon as our hosting provider for all of our new projects, and we can see the night and day difference between our client's old hosting providers and Pantheon. Even previous hosting companies we worked with dull in comparison to Pantheon's offerings. The TTFB is incredible with their Varnish Cache. Backups can be taken for granted because they are set up automatically for production and are easy to configure for staging environments.

We are able to utilize the multi-devs effectively for testing out new features as much as we need to. We have used the multi-dev staging environments for anything from site updates to a new features. Additionally the test environment includes the same caching and rules as the live environmen.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
You get what you pay for with Pantheon, which is a premium hosting company.

BEST TOOL FOR DevOps

  • March 18, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Amazing tool that offers everything a developer might in in terms of hosting and managing the websites.
Pantheon is great for Wordpress and help managing the website, update and debug very fast and effectively.
What do you dislike about the product?
I am little confussed with the pantheon website because sometimes it lack some info and is a bit missleading.
The tool itself is perfect, but the company website is a bit hard to use to be honest.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have been using pantheon for several years now for the development purposes and some projects I would like to develop on the additional server before I show it to the client.
The best advantage of the tool is - the pricing and the ability to start from zero and keep developing!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If ou are are developing a website or an app - Pantheon is the tool you should definitely use and you will be realy really enjoying it.
The tool will help you migrate via simple to use plugins and would be very simple to work with as soon as the website is on Pantheon.

Not Ready for Prime Time

What do you like best about the product?
Their dev, test, live environment was good.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you are using woocommerce do NOT use pantheon. We launched and our site went down with 200 concurrent users. The fix? Oh yeah we have a known issue distributing your site along our architecture, try and fix it this way. Also want support? Pay $500 per month or we wont help you. 30-50 minute chat wait times are all you have. I do not recommend mission critical sites be hosted here.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Used as a web host for a woocommerce site.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need hosting you can rely on for wordpress, choose another host. They do not take responsibility for their lack of planning. While they did give us a solution to THEIR hosting environment issues, it still had to be implemented by our in-house developers.
They touted that the site would be fast and spread across servers and reliable, we deployed a site and everything was fine. The trouble came when we started running ad traffic to the site. We hit between 150 and 200 concurrent visitors on the site and our website went down. At that point we reached out to their (Chat only) support and had to wait 50 minutes to get something changed. Once it was changed and the traffic died down the site came back up. Great. The solution from the chat agent was to upgrade our plan. So we went ahead and changed to the 'performance medium' and eventually the 'performance large' plan. Well that caused a whole other set of issues where the site went down again. What happened is that Pantheon could not properly serve all the resources to visitors of the site. So they sent us a link to github for some issue from 2018 that they said they knew about, but did not bother to let us know would affect our site until another 30 minute wait to get in contact with their chat support.

Awesome tools and stability, but some issues

  • February 27, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon's suite of developer and workflow tools can't be beat. Their platform is rock-solid and easy to use. Not having to worry about sysadmin tasks and being able to concentrate on development and deployment is wonderful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Support can be uneven. Sometimes you get a heroic support engineer who exceeds your expectations, but often you get someone who points you to some articles on the web and then you're on your own. Their new pricing plan and metrics by which they bill have some serious issues as well; so does the way they've responded to this from a customer service standpoint.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Offloading sysadmin tasks so the developer(s) can concentrate on developing. Ease of use and stability are fantastic.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a fantastic, solid platform with unparalleled developer tools, but make sure you fully understand their pricing and plans.

Great Drupal 8 introductory online course

  • February 18, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I followed the online Drupal starter course and I was very impressed. Each section is broken out so as not to be overwhelming, the course workbook was perfectly matched to the online tutorials.
What do you dislike about the product?
I would have loved to have a deeper dive into some of the components.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I only followed the "Getting started with Drupal 8" so far, it has added to my overall knowledge of Drupal

I'll dedicate ZERO headspace to server and dev ops woes from this point forward because of Pantheon

  • January 07, 2020
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We love the reasonable cost.
We love the intuitive user experience of high level administration.
We love the bells and whistles with a giant value add: SSL administration and maintenance; dev/test/live environments with code comments and deploy history embedded in the admin area.
We love the clean organization; it's easy to make environment changes, build teams with proper access, check server status, perform UAT in a sandbox.
We love that I don't worry about site uptime.
We love that "All sites on a Performance plan or higher, get a New Relic APM Pro plan for free!"
We love the clear delineation between environments as subdomains that allowed us to easily migrate both our Wordpress blog, and a Drupal website, both of which we can easily manage from the dashboard.
We love automatic backups with easy configuration.
My devs love that we've migrated here, and we love how easily they can work together.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pantheon seems to be optimized for Drupal and Word Press; (I haven't looked, so I'm talking out of turn) it'd be nice to see broader optimized support of various other systems on their roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No more headaches from managing server instances, add ons and running custom services; a clean, intuitive approach to hosting & web ops!
We no longer need to utilize separate products or services to host just our live website, to host only our test & dev, and yet another to host only our code. We no longer need to manage a separate team to help with backups, and server issue resolution. We no longer need to have our web dev take on server management tasks, and utilize precious internal staff time dealing with copy/paste of SSL tokens, etc. What a mess we've cleaned up with one simple move; a migration to Pantheon!

With Pantheon, it's as if a web ops wizard awaits your every command! And better yet, I know exactly where to initiate those commands only days after learning the interface.

I initially wondered why my devs were so happy we'd planned to migrate to Pantheon. After my first session with the product, there was no question this would be the best hosting and dev ops experience we'd ever had.
