Simple and robust

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon provides a robust yet simple service that allows for minimal set-up and intuitive UI.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes Pantheon can be confusing for non-devs. Our marketing team often interacts with our dashboard and it can be a bit overwhelming for them at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using less engineering resources to manage our company blog. We've got everything we could ask for in a hosted Wordpress solution.

I am Drupal developer and use Pantheon

What do you like best about the product?
I like the build-in performance, the Status page and multidev possibility.
What do you dislike about the product?
I like almost everything, probably price can be lower. And also bring back New Relic to Basic plans.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am using it for building and hosting Drupal sites.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you are going to work on the site improvements and not on hosting choose it.

Smart Solution for WordPress Hosting

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
My favorite two things about Pantheon are the three environments (dev, test and live) to allow a flexible workflow based on client and the integration with git changes. Sales team we worked with was very nice and helped us come up with a good solution for our company. I also felt like they really listened to what we needed versus just telling us what they thought we needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
That the process of going live doesn't include a change to the database automatically to switch out the live-domain.pantheon.io URLs to the new domain.com URLs. We have had some issues with the database just continuing to have the Pantheon reference in there for half the URLs because we forget to do a database find and replace.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Changes tracking, dev and live environment, good way of pulling in new WordPress versions as they become available, good up-time, friendly service. It gives us a good way to keep track of all our WordPress sites and make sure they are being managed well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
When comparing this vs. other systems, Pantheon gives much better flexibility having three environments versus two. I also like that pushing from one environment to another needs to happen in Pantheon vs. in WordPress so that people who are admins don't necessarily have the ability to push changes live.

Great hosting provider

What do you like best about the product?
I really enjoy pantheon's dedication to their customers and the developer friendly platform.
What do you dislike about the product?
It feels as though the implementation in regards to frameworks could be less drupal oriented (If you notice a lot of the documentation points to drupal setup not wordpress-that's a pain point for us)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Wanted a better hosting provider that was developer friendly.

What do you dislike about the product?
Can't think of one thing that I dislike about this product
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to easily transfer the site to a client once finished

Developers dream

  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
ability to quickly stand up a base site. Allows me to keep live sites and dev sites separate
What do you dislike about the product?
Drupal install frequently get corrupted, meaning you have to kill it and recreate, if you haven't made a back-up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Allows me to stand up demo sites for clients and send them links to review, and also allow staff or even client to work on aspects

Drupal distribution and module development and dev ops.

What do you like best about the product?
Terminus. Ability to script with terminus. Workflows API. Terminus plugins.

Multidevs.

Quicksilver.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Pantheon model for doing a D8 distro is complicated. The workflows that we use to manange our D7 distro will change significantly when we go to D8.

Lando integration: https://github.com/lando/lando/issues/988

The web dashboard is slow. It has gotten better, but it's still slow enough that I go to lengths to avoid it.

I wish that tagging sites via terminus was quicker and that tag names weren't truncated.

The users roles and "change management" features don't meet the needs of UC Berkeley's enterprise account.

Our monthly billing reconciliation with Pantheon is rarely smooth. Pantheon has constant turnover in their billing department.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Decent automation of distribution update process.

Automation of custom site spin ups.

A solid option for websites that need performance and multiple environments

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The dev/test/live workflow is great and "multidev" is a lifesaver for larger/complex projects. Automatic backups and restores are also pretty amazing and seamless. Supporting git and SFTP modes gives us flexibility in how we handle different client needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tendency for MySQL connections to change ports/passwords when instances are restarted causes some friction/frustration but it's a minor annoyance. Some SFTP clients that try to remember which folder you were in can get confused by the changing instance names. Migrating some sites that have extra stuff in the webroot can be a pain (but that's technical debt, not Pantheon's fault).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Pantheon's workflow streamlined our workflow by giving us a ready to go and battle-tested approach to managing the quirks of running WordPress in multiple environments. It's saved us time, hassle, and a great deal of sanity during a period of fast growth for our agency.
