A lot of tradeoffs, not clear if we end up better off

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Ease of backups, deployment, spin up of environments.

Some of the additional features like New Relic, and the CDN are big wins.

It's also nice that the platform was able to protect against some of the latest high-profile security exploits.
What do you dislike about the product?
The platform still seems shaky. I've used it for years, it used to be horrendous, better now but still seems to let me down when I really need to get stuff done.

The actual CI/CD is a nightmare. I would not be comfortable deploying a high-profile site without an entirely separate chain of build tools.

It also really stinks that "dealing with Pantheon" is a skillset/industry all to itself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're using this for mostly smaller/simple sites. The tools seem to work well to support this case.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's fine for basic use. If you've got complex development requirements be prepared to work around the Pantheon.

Ease of production workflow. Mitigated production issues with easy rollback process. Quick integration of updated modules and features.

Awesome for Developers

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The dev, test, live, and multidev environments are awesome.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pantheon isn't the easiest for non-technical people to work with.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Two primary problems:
1. Fast, reliable hosting for my company's website
2. An appealing hosting solution for clients.

When we moved the Bop site to Pantheon, we saw a big uptick in page load speed, which contributes to our SEO.

It's so much easier to sell clients on a third-party hosting solution when we have a company like Pantheon to refer them to. Pantheon's resources and support team are a great help in avoiding the mess that is working with a client's internal IT to set up a server.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's worth the price point. However, if you don't have a technical team, it may be challenging for you to get used to their system. It's certainly possible, but it will take time.

Pantheon: The fastest, most efficient, secure hosting platform

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The developer tools and multiple environments
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes when you migrate a large site, you're unable to commit the files immediately after migration. This is a big problem that I feel should be resolved by increasing the git commit timeout period - or removing altogether.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Efficiency in deployments, ability to perform testing in deployments, overall time savings
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're looking for speed, security, less maintenance overall, and time savings, Pantheon is for you.

Best WordPress hosting, hands down.

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The system is blazing fast and the git style processes make editing and testing sites a breeze.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the nature of the filesystem creates issues for popular plugins.

Also the mobile site has no login button.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our VIP clients end up on our Pantheon account and it always satisfies.

Quality hosting, excellent customer service

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Always available customer service has really helped me with a lot of issues I run into. They are there for me even in the odd hours that web developers work :)
The backup/restore procedures are fantastic as well. The Pantheon experience is easy to get used to, and they have dev, testing, and Production environments to use if needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes processes take a while using Pantheon, and the command-line tools are a little difficult to set up because of required libraries. But that's not directly their fault. Overall I have no strong complaints.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Website hosting, code deployment, backup/restore, and integrated metrics

Pantheon Review - Andy Hawks

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Great hosting service overall. Speedy. Clear, easy-to-use dev/test/live workflow. Terminus is nice for cli.
What do you dislike about the product?
only minor particular platform constraints w/ wordpress, drupal. Full or partial site migrations not the easiest thing w/ Pantheon.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Pantheon for hosting friends & family and hobby-related organizational sites in Drupal/Wordpress, and for quick testing on work Drupal projects. For me it's a great alternative to Acquia in terms of services, but a much better value for the money than Acquia.

Good experience for an average site

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Pantheon is a great hosting platform for a normal, run of the mill Drupal site.
What do you dislike about the product?
The price is a little high, especially when its difficult to host websites that are a little more complicated, or need to host additional applications, such as a php chat application.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Managed hosting; our company doesn't have an IT department so it really helps to have server maintenance taken care of by someone else.

Great flexibility for developers

  • July 17, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Spinning up feature branch environments has been very handy. Features can be shown to key players quickly and efficiently.
What do you dislike about the product?
Though the flexibility is there for spinning multi-environments, it would be nice to not be locked down by the master branch on the deployment of code from DEV > TEST > PROD.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Peace of mind for managing the servers. Uptime is pretty reliable. Having the free SSL option is very useful. This helps reduce costs that are often seen as an after thought. Pantheon has made it very easy for customers to have a secure site without having the hassle of ordering an SSL until they want more protection/privacy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Development teams thrive with Pantheon.
