Real-time data monitoring enhances data integrity but presents development challenges

  • April 19, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

The main use case we had with Informatica Cloud Data Quality was real-time data quality monitoring. When customer information was entered into a tool in real time, we were able to run data quality rules using Informatica Cloud Data Quality before the data was passed on to the database. This was integrated with Service Bus, and the rules were executed successfully.

What is most valuable?

Informatica Cloud Data Quality was most valuable for our real-time data quality monitoring needs. We could run data quality rules as part of Service Bus, which ensured the integrity of customer information before it was entered into our database. This system was quite successful in maintaining data quality in real time.

What needs improvement?

The downside of Informatica Cloud Data Quality is that it requires a developer to write rules and maintain the systems. This creates a significant cost and time burden, especially since we followed a strict software development life cycle process, which made creating each rule time-consuming and expensive. As a result, we had to explore alternatives like Collibra Data Quality.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is good. I would rate it about an eight.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We had to think outside the box for our data quality monitoring needs, which led us to Collibra Data Quality due to the limitations and costs associated with Informatica Cloud Data Quality.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup for Informatica Cloud Data Quality was straightforward thanks to their good support.

What was our ROI?

It takes a good two years to see the return or the value in data with Informatica Cloud Data Quality. Compared to Collibra Catalog, where the value is noticeable within six months.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for Informatica Cloud Data Quality is super expensive. The issue with Informatica Cloud Data Quality comes when you have to purchase the full suite, as having only bits and pieces can cause problems with integration.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have experience with other tools such as Collibra and Informatica Cloud Data Quality, but not Microsoft Purview, which is why I didn't provide a review for it.

What other advice do I have?

If I rate Collibra an eight, I would rate Informatica Cloud Data Quality about a six. I advise considering the cost and time investment when deciding on a data quality solution.

Significant room for improvement exists in stability and patch management, while data quality enhancement remains positive

  • March 27, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use Informatica Cloud Data Quality in a medium business environment.

What is most valuable?

The quality of the data improves with Informatica Cloud Data Quality. There is an address cleansing feature called AddressDoctor that cleanses and enhances the quality of the data. Additionally, several algorithms are available for use, such as correcting typo mistakes in the data, whether in alphanumeric, upper case, or lower case forms.

What needs improvement?

Informatica Cloud Data Quality has significant room for improvement. It is not stable, and there are several issues, especially on the cloud side, unlike the on-premise version which was very stable. There are problems with upgrades and patches that do not make sense and can negatively impact the existing code.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are substantial stability issues with Informatica Cloud Data Quality on the cloud. The on-premise version was very stable, but on the cloud, the product experiences many issues with patches and upgrades disrupting functionality.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

On a scale, scalability with this product would be rated as five or six out of ten.

How are customer service and support?

I deal with technical support daily. The support is not very good; each ticket starts from scratch as there is no continuity between personnel handling the same ticket.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

From my experience, I have always used Informatica. I transitioned from the on-premise to the cloud version of the product.

What was our ROI?

Connecting to the cloud allows access to many connectors, which is a positive. However, the stability and performance remain issues. In terms of scalability and cloud connectivity, it is number one.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I am not involved in the pricing details. It appears to use a model based on usage, such as how many rows are processed.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate the solution overall as five to six on the cloud. I would prefer my review to remain anonymous due to my H-1B status. The overall solution is rated as five to six out of 10.

Handles large data volumes effectively and offers competitive pricing

  • March 27, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

One of the projects I am currently working on, MVDW, involves a very huge volume, but without any major blockers, we are able to implement the code effectively. For the current MVDW project, we have around 100 plus integrations, and it is not a complex project; we can categorize it as medium complexity. However, the volume is significant since we are dealing with client data and PHI data, which is very large, but we have not faced any challenges concerning volume.

What is most valuable?

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services can handle a really huge volume of data. Informatica is really a good tool to handle large volumes when it comes to CDI, the Cloud Data Integration tool.

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services is very scalable. The scalability provided by Informatica is commendable, and I don't feel any challenges regarding this aspect. We are able to automate our features effectively.

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services has good governance and security features. We are dealing with metadata and not playing directly with the data, which means the security measures are very good. From a developer's point of view, only the metadata is visible, which cannot be compromised. Developers do not need to control the actual data; they can build without even interacting with the data itself, so I don't foresee any security issues for developers in this context.

What needs improvement?

There is a lot of improvement required, as we still face some cache issues most of the time, which is a challenge that we expect to see resolved in the future. Additionally, there is some limitation when we are working with a tool, especially regarding In and Out parameters, and I feel that this aspect should be improved going ahead.

We face issues with the API side, as Cloud Application Integration cannot handle large volumes; according to the API page, there is a limitation of 500 records or 500 MB.

The AI integrated into the Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services solution is called Application Integration, where we still face challenges when dealing with huge volumes, as previously explained.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for the last 8 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I do not face any major issues regarding the stability or reliability of Informatica. We are good without any significant challenges; in my opinion, it is a very wonderful tool.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I find Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services to be very scalable. The scalability provided by Informatica is commendable, and I don't feel any challenges regarding this aspect.

How are customer service and support?

Regarding tech support, I find it time-consuming. Whenever we create a support ticket, it typically takes 1 to 2 days to get resolved. It depends on how the Informatica support team responds. Most of the time, whatever we explore, they provide the same statements as feedback. We expect more responsive assistance because they have the expertise since Informatica is their tool, but I don't see enough expertise on the Informatica support side. Most of the time, they share the same information that we have already dug into and found ourselves.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

I find the initial setup to be simple, actually. It is not even medium complex; it is straightforward. When comparing it to other tools, especially Informatica PowerCenter, which is an on-premise tool, the cloud version provides a significant advantage, allowing even those without core technical knowledge to follow guidance and complete the installation and setup.

The time frame for setup depends on the individual. If someone has expertise, they can set it up in about 2 to 3 hours maximum.

What was our ROI?

Regarding return on investment, I find that sometimes leadership prefers to utilize third-party tools, such as Snowflake, which has both storage and ELT features. Thus, there are projects where cost-cutting leads to a preference for Snowflake over Informatica because of its existing ELT facility.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Regarding pricing, compared to other tools I have worked with, Informatica offers competitive pricing, which I find not high in terms of starting strategy.

What other advice do I have?

This is a very beautiful tool compared to other tools on the market. I recommend Informatica because anyone with a bit of knowledge, even a beginner or intern, can explore, learn, and accomplish development tasks without much difficulty. For those considering any integration tool, Informatica is one of the best available options in the market.

I still see that they are working aggressively to introduce new features. They are continuously adding improvements to our services. They keep on enhancing the tool based on the information they receive.

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services can handle huge volumes of data effectively; it is highly scalable and manages security well by playing with metadata instead of directly dealing with data. This aspect allows us to build our code without exposing client information, which are significant pros. However, there are still areas requiring improvement, especially on the API side, as it can't handle large volumes. There is much more need to be built regarding images, merging, and other features related to application integration tools within Informatica.

Once everything is set up, the team can easily manage the system because there are not major challenges once the setup is done correctly. I don't believe we face any challenges, except for instances when the server is down, which is a different use case altogether.

On a scale of 1-10, I rate Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services a 9.5.

Connectors streamline data processes and optimize cloud-based operations

  • March 20, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I use Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services predominantly for data integration. I utilize it for building data pipelines, which is a critical aspect of my job.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for me is the availability of connectors. A connector is a piece of software that allows access to specific solutions such as D365, Snowflake, and various databases. The connectors serve as the main functionality, making data integration processes more efficient by saving time and effort that would otherwise be spent accessing data via other methods like APIs.

What needs improvement?

The tool is quite good overall, but sometimes the number of modules can be overwhelming. If the development interface could be optimized to have fewer modules, it would be greatly beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for a year. Before that, I operated in a different environment, and I am now fully in the cloud.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I would rate the stability of Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services as seven or eight. At the moment, everything seems fine and I don't have any issues with its stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services as eight. There are many options available, and the licensing model is quite good, supporting our needs effectively. It's quite important to maintain its current licensing model.

How are customer service and support?

The customer service and support for Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services is rated as eight. My impression of their support is positive, and everything is functioning well.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Previously, my solution was not cloud-based and was hosted in our data center. However, I've now transitioned to a cloud-based approach with Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services due to its suitable licensing model.

How was the initial setup?

For me, the initial setup was very easy because Informatica primarily manages that. I am not responsible for setting up anything since it is provided as Software-as-a-Service.

What about the implementation team?

The developers maintain their own pipelines, job schedules, and so on. I don't require dedicated people solely for maintenance.

What was our ROI?

I haven't observed a return on investment in hard figures yet, but Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services does save me a significant amount of time.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services is affordable for my specific use cases, with the pricing being rated three or four on a scale where one is very cheap. The affordability may vary based on how much data is manipulated.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I evaluated a couple of options before selecting Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services. The most suitable licensing model was the deciding factor in my choice.

What other advice do I have?

The overall solution is rated as eight. I plan to continue using Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for data integration whenever required.

What is our primary use case?

I use Informatica Data Quality for data profiling before starting any migration projects to understand what the data looks like. I also run quality reports on it, with mappings written for different rules to see what data needs fixing and to identify data issues.

What is most valuable?

I build our use cases in a very customized way depending on the business needs. There are out-of-the-box features and standard profiling options that provide quick visibility of the data within a few minutes, making it easy to start discussions with the business.

What needs improvement?

One of the features that I'm looking at is match capabilities at a material level, which is currently not customizable. I often have to write code and tweak the features. Additionally, the user interface requires some technical knowledge; a more business user-friendly UI would be beneficial.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using it for six years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The product is almost stable. I experience some restarting issues once in a while, maybe once every two to three months, which require a restart, but otherwise, it's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have never had any issues with scalability. I have used this product over multiple systems and was able to generate reports for large datasets without any performance issues.

How are customer service and support?

Customer service has been decent. I am currently working to upgrade myself since I have gone out of service support. Otherwise, the response whenever I raised tickets has been satisfactory.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I previously used another solution called Suniti, which was SAP-centric. The main differences were in pricing and the connectors included in the original licenses. Informatica required me to add certain connectors to my licenses, while Suniti included many connectors in its initial licenses.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I worked with another solution called Suniti before.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend Informatica Data Quality to others. It's more user-friendly, but it would be great if the UI were more intuitive for business users. Overall, on a scale of one to ten, I would rate the solution a nine.

Match and merge functionality is still the best but cloud version needs more functionality

  • February 03, 2025
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

I have used Informatica Intelligent Data Management Cloud (IDMC) for customer data management and analytical product master data management solutions. The first use case involved finding unique customer references with match and merge functionality. The second use case was creating a master data repository for products for use in the analytical layer.

What is most valuable?

The match and merge functionality is invaluable for discovering golden master data records. Additionally, the integrated data transport and master data creation capabilities are significant. The platform's ability to pull in and push out data from other platforms without the need for an additional integration tool enhances its appeal. The availability of data quality tools within the platform is another bonus. The presence data governance tools for meta data management adds to the benefits.

What needs improvement?

There are various areas for improvement in IDMC. Enhancements on basic data management functionality and the UI front, such as multiple templates and improved grid views, would be beneficial. Bulk data management features could be improved from the UI perspective to get to the level of the on prem versions of Informatica MDM.

The tool needs to mature but missing small but important features, like restricted dynamic attributes functionality, data inheritance rules in master hierachies, identifiers not being passed in jobs is a drawback.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using IDMC for the last three years across two projects

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is crucial because IDMC holds business-critical data, and it needs to be available all the time for business users.

I have rated the stability a ten out of ten due to a high level of satisfaction.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As a SaaS platform, IDMC is quite scalable and provides complete flexibility. Users can increase data capacity on demand based on licenses, which facilitates easy and fast scaling.

How are customer service and support?

The customer support team is good at response and issue resolution. However, due to the tool's maturity limitations, solutions are not always simple and often require workarounds, indicating a need for further improvement.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

The Informatica on Prem MDM product suite is very mature as a tool and still a very good option.

How was the initial setup?

I rated the initial setup of IDMC as a six out of ten. Many tools within IDMC are new, and those familiar with on-premises versions find the features limiting. This necessitates assistance from the Informatica support team and architects for ensuring quality of implementation.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is high and is based on the number of master data entities managed within the platform including refrence data entities. It can range from a quarter million to a couple of million a year. IDMC is often described as the 'Ferrari of Master Data Solutions,' implying that while expensive, it is still the best as a business-critical platform and, therefore, justified.

What other advice do I have?

As an integrated enterprise solution, IDMC is quite good, however, the platform needs to mature in the capabilities it currently provides.

Overall, I rate Informatica IDMC a seven out of ten.

Advanced cloud services optimize robust data integration

  • October 25, 2024
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What is our primary use case?

On one of my projects, we used Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services for ingestion purposes. Secondly, we used it as a regular ETL for performing heavy transformations.

How has it helped my organization?

In our current scenario, we are moving our on-premise artifacts, which are on PowerCenter, to the cloud. It was surprisingly quick to get everything working, which has been beneficial for our operations.

What is most valuable?

Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services offers a wide variety of services, including Cloud Data Integration, which is akin to a replica of PowerCenter on the cloud. I particularly like the mass ingestion service.

What needs improvement?

The cloud version of Informatica, although easier and more advanced than PowerCenter, still requires a deep dive to fix bugs. It could be improved by making the process as intuitive and easy to follow as PowerCenter.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have delivered two projects using it, so from my experience, the tool is very good.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are some bugs and glitches, which for a beginner, can take time to resolve. This may be because I have spent less time on the tool compared to others.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability doesn't impact Informatica technically, but it does take a lot of money when we keep adding users.

How are customer service and support?

Informatica technical support is excellent. I would rate it a nine. They are top-notch.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is easy and not complex.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is a bit high, similar to a premium version or a high-end product, and requires a budget ready to manage it.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

During POCs, we explored other ETLs like Firetran for ingestion purposes, but Informatica's capabilities are robust.

What other advice do I have?

For a robust use case, especially for large enterprises, Informatica Intelligent Cloud Services is a good tool with good support. However, make sure to have a budget ready.

I would rate it an eight out of ten.

An easy setup with efficient data synchronization that keeps information updated

  • October 08, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We utilize Intelligent Cloud Services for various transformations during mapping, applied logic, and data manipulation. We use it to complete tasks such as using joiner, filter, and expression transformation to load data into the target table. It can integrate with any cloud system.

What is most valuable?

There are two things regarding synchronization: one synchronizes the source to the target, which can be incremental, and the other is non-incremental. This functionality keeps the data updated with the latest information.

What needs improvement?

In terms of data volume processing, Intelligent Cloud Services does not match the efficiency of Power Center. The processing speed is slower for large volumes of data. I'm not sure if there have been improvements in the latest versions as my experience is from six or seven months ago. Additionally, not all transformations available in Power Center are present in Intelligent Cloud Services, like the XML parser and normalizer.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Intelligent Cloud Services for around three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is quite good. I've faced no significant difficulties or downtime issues. The services were always available for my projects.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I rate the scalability of Intelligent Cloud Services as quite high. On a scale from one to ten, I would rate it as nine.

How are customer service and support?

Customer service and technical support are excellent. Whenever I raised tickets, I received solutions promptly. I would rate them ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The setup is very simple. The administration is not involved with Intelligent Cloud Services. Informatica handles the setup since it's hosted by them.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Pricing is moderate. I do not recall the exact numbers for the license cost at the moment.

What other advice do I have?

I recommend Intelligent Cloud Services for companies of all sizes, including small and medium enterprises, as administration costs can be saved, and the service offers cloud connectivity and plugins.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten.

Does not require server maintenance, server hosting, backup, or restoration

  • September 04, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

Data quality is missing enterprise-wide in our bank. We use the solution for all the customer data to judge the metrics of software data quality from the source systems.

What is most valuable?

Server maintenance, server hosting, backup, restoration, and DB capabilities are not needed in the cloud. There is no crashing of the servers. The admin part is very seamless in the cloud, while administration is a big task for the on-premises version.

What needs improvement?

The on-premises version is very mature, but many of the on-premises features are missing in the cloud. It is still in the development stage and has not yet matured in the cloud. The tool has a lot of product errors that need to be fixed. We face a lot of internal product errors while doing the configuration and quality checks.

The on-premises version has many use case transformations, but they are missing in the cloud. The cloud version has only four to five types of use case transformations. You cannot import the data discovery rules you create in the solution to the Cloud Data Governance and Catalog (CDGC).

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Informatica Cloud Data Quality for six months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We face many glitches during the configuration because it is a new product. It will take another year to mature.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution's scalability is seamless in the cloud. You can scale the solution within one or two hours.

How are customer service and support?

The solution's customer support is wonderful, but they are not up to the mark knowledge-wise.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

The solution can be implemented in one or two days. There are steps available to deploy the tool. One person is enough to procure the VM or the server.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Informatica Cloud Data Quality is a costly solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The solution's competitors include Oracle Data Quality, Collibra, and Azure Purview.

What other advice do I have?

The solution provides data standardization capabilities. Since Informatica Cloud Data Quality is a SaaS solution, it does not require any maintenance. Since it is a cloud product, many connectors have configuration issues. They have to add some other parameters in the tool levels. We face such challenges in the cloud, not on-premises.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

Offers enhanced usability with the ability to create rules using its AI engine

  • August 22, 2024
  • Review provided by PeerSpot

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to validate emails, telephone numbers, and postal codes. It can also create some data quality rules using the Cloud app's data quality function.

What is most valuable?

It offers enhanced usability with the ability to create rules quickly using its AI engine. This feature simplifies rule creation by allowing users to specify their needs, and the system generates the necessary scripts, acting as a significant accelerator.

Another advantage is its seamless integration with other Informatica capabilities, making data quality a deeply embedded part of the solution. Informatica has a strong history in data quality with its on-premise product. All those powerful capabilities are now available in the cloud, making this product even more robust.

What needs improvement?

Accessing data as a service is essential, especially for validations requiring external data services. This goes beyond basic syntactic checks, like ensuring an email address contains the @ symbol or .com domain. Instead, it's about advanced validation, such as verifying if an email address exists or if a phone number is valid.

These services are in high demand, especially for regions like China, Argentina, and other parts of Latin America. While such capabilities were initially more common in the United States, they are now increasingly required globally.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Five to six people are using this solution.

How are customer service and support?

Informatica Support is one of the best services available in the market now.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

What was our ROI?

Many clients acquired this product because of the ROI.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Informatica is one of the most expensive solutions available in the market.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
