What do you dislike about the product?
Licensing model (restrict the yearly bought calls to monthly packages)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we have a cloud first strategy, but most of the data are still living in our datacenter, the capabilities of installing the product on our vm's helps very much to get access to the data
All your APIs are Managed, Secured & Monitored easily in one place
What do you like best about the product?
IBM API Connect is a valuable product and helps me develop, manage, and monitor the different API endpoints in one place. It has fantastic support for multiple authentication security mechanisms for API, like OAUTH, MTLS, JWK, etc. IBM API Connect has a good UI and can configure API using YAML and using components on UI. The Gateway used here is IBM Datapower which is one of the most secure, reliable, highly available, and can integrate with almost any front-end or back-end.
What do you dislike about the product?
If API calls do not reach our services, it takes really a long time troubleshoot the issue.
API management configuration tool can be simplified more.
it takes sometimes for beginners to design and deploy the APIs

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We used IBM API Connect to create a managed and secured backend service that expose the API to API consumers with OAuth2 authentication and custamized the api response.
Recommendations to others considering the product:

I am a software developer having more then 8 years of experience, 2 plus years on APIC.
What do you like best about the product?
it's very easy to use, the best thing is the OOB dev portal option.
What do you dislike about the product?
the searching option is missing in different pages e.g. catalogue pages, unable to search by the path. Can't open API directly from catalog, there should be a link.
IP whitelisting option is also missing.

The problem of having grouped set of APIs and manage them in a secure way with benefits of great toll to design API and apply policies reducing adhoc development work.
API Connect
What do you like best about the product?
IBM API Connect is hybrid, can be deployed on Cloud and on-prem as the architecture of API Connect is based on Kubernetes architecture . API Connect can be deployed via OVA and using helm catalog making it cloud-native architecture.

What do you like best about the product?
The run time - datapower is the fastest and best run time engine
What do you dislike about the product?

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
API management
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Will recommend for api management
Good tool which needs little improvement
What do you like best about the product?
It allows you to maintain many API hassle free and needs very less maintenance. Also it is good to have different portals for developing rules and maintaining APIs. Also security can be maintained in only one one place(API connect) instead of configuring in every service. And with less technical knowledge it can be used.
What do you dislike about the product?
The tool is simple but for a newbie it is confusing. it should be further more simplified and made it easy. ans also can have better simplified tutorials from IBM.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
All the APIs are maintained through API connect which make the maintenance very easy for the support team. Also trouble shooting when any issue comes also becomes easy.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a growing sector and it will make your life easier when you implement in your organisation if you are using lot of APIs.
A true APIM Product
What do you like best about the product?
APIC as an APIM product suite is a complete tool for API management and for microservices as well. I liked the control it gives to the governance and the analytics for product owners which is critical for product design and pricing. From a security and management point of view, I like the space management within the catalogs. The built-in policies security, mediation and transport are well defined.
What do you dislike about the product?
There could have been more policies in the security section, a little better UI because sometimes it becomes little too confusing to browse through the different features. There should be a recovery process for lost API secret for app consumer. If they forget to copy paste their client secret then its tough on them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The APIC is being used for enabling the interdepartmental communication by exposing the services as API which need a minimum transformation and primarily read-only in nature. Some of the services are also exposed to external partners to fetch data.
Ease of implementation
What do you like best about the product?
The time to write a new API is faster than traditional coding
What do you dislike about the product?
Product still seems still have many bugs as it grows and develops
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are exposing legacy services as up to date rest APIs
