What do you like best about the product?
Kong is easy to use, setup and simple API gateway which can provide proxies to your microservice architecture. It can provide extra features using plugins.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not all plugins are free plus it lack to do complex taks like which can be done by IBM API connect or Apigee
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Proxy for API and helping to achieve event based architecture in the Organisation. Kong solution is easy to scale and manage.

The performance is great and it support wild range of platform from POSIX installation to Docker and K8S.

It will be more appreciated if can streamline the plugin lifecycle and putting resource to encourage community.

What do you dislike about the product?
Some things that made me like Kong Gateway less include:
Complexity in configuration and setup compared to some alternatives.
Limited built-in support for advanced traffic management features.
Plugin ecosystem can be fragmented and sometimes lacks documentation.
Performance overhead when running many plugins.
UI and monitoring tools are less mature than some competitors.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Make the API readily available in a very short time which, compared to other solutions, would take longer to finish and ultimately delay the production depliyment.
My Experience in Kong
What do you like best about the product?
I liked kong for high-availability clusters and includes an extensive range of plugins to address cross-cutting concerns, including authentication, security, rate limiting, throttling, transformations, analytics and monitoring.
What do you dislike about the product?
Kong Console User Interface is not that much great

Centralized management of APIs specifcially when it goes via egress

The Kong community support is not strong and is still evolving. The community needs to grow in order to find help.

API Gateway as a solution
Decent API Management platform
What do you like best about the product?
Kong Gateway provides various options to configure and run in customer-hosted infrastructure. Kong also provides a lot of ready-to-use artefacts to install and configure the Kong gateway with a few steps. It out of the box offers a lot of plugins (policies) to govern the APIs and also provides the capability to develop our own custom plugins.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Kong community is still evolving and there is little help available in the community to discuss issues. The documentation is also limited over the internet. There are only few trainings available in their LMS and there is no support available if something is wrong with the training steps.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using Kong Gateway in hybrid mode with Kong Mesh in our organisation. We are using Kong Mesh for our microservices and this allows us to efficiently communicate with other services without leaving the Mesh network. We use Kong Gateway to govern and protect our API proxies running in Mesh.
Reliable API connection
What do you like best about the product?
First of all, there is an Open Source community in Kong and I like Open Source Software. It is very easy to manage and deploy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think it is a bit overpriced but overall a good product

It is very easy to manage APIs.

Good tools with lots of security feature and leading market on api gateway
What do you like best about the product?
Kafka API Gateway is full of security and scalability features which were the main reasons we moved to Kong API Gateway. It is cheaper as well compared to Google API GEE and other API Gateway offerings.
What do you dislike about the product?
Kafka API Gateway needs further simplification. Also resource material needs to be improved. There are not many courses available which can be referred by learner.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is solving security requirements and allows me to add custom authentication which is difficult with other API gateway. Also, scalability is another advantage of Kong API Gateway.
