What do you like best about the product?
ease of use more user friendly than other PLM software.
What do you dislike about the product?
It should provide less complicated medium to configure CAD tools
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Real time product designing and deliveries which reduced the defects #LEAN
Needs Improvement but good baselines, especially for smaller companies
What do you like best about the product?
Our Product Manager. She provides the support we need in a timely fashion and is always willing to jump on a call and screen share, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
Metrics. We have metrics, usual metrics tracked in a QMS but it is extremely difficult to set these up and the support team appears confused as well. There are no metrics already populated such as on time training, etc.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use this as a repository for our QMS. The training module is helpful and document retrieval is easy but you need to know what you are doing to process documents.
Great Tool, Few Shortcomings
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Arena structures BOMs in an easy-to-understand manner. I like how change management is structured as it provides a clear process flow and a efficient structure. I also like the ability to manage quality issues and link them directly to the product record.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are just a few quirks I don't like.
1) When updating a child item within a parent item, the child item is automatically updated in ALL parent items. However, this automatic update is not logged in the history for the parents (unless you manually add it in a change order) so it is easy to lose track of all the changes made on a parent item.
2) Arena uses In design and In Production lifecycle phases, they portray the "In Design" lifecycle status to be a phase where you can iterate and change the item before releasing it to production, This is a great but right now it is more theory than actuality. When in the "In Design" state you still need to use Change Orders to make changes and updates. Sometimes this is too burdensome as these changes are being made and should not really have to be signed off as the design hasn't been fully released. Also, when something is released to "In Production" you cannot go back to the "In Design" phase for that item. You have to do a workaround to copy the item which is cumbersome.
3) Arena does not have an active interface for updating documents. While it does a great job of managing revision control, you still have to download the document, put it on Teams or Sharepoint where everyone can work on it, then save it, then upload it to Arena. It's a little cumbersome when reviewing documents on Change Orders, if you want to track changes or add comments you have to do it outside of the system.
4) Multiple change orders for items can conflict with one another and cause wrong revisions to be released. If you have two change orders on a particular item, the system is not smart enough to look at the revision of that item when the change is submitted for approval/goes effective. It only looks at the revision when the change is created, therefore, If you make a minor change and tell the system to keep the Rev at B, but another change order Revs the Item to C before you get the first CO approved, your item will go from rev B to C back to B. This can be managed but it just means you have to add an extra step in your process to ensure users double triple check the item rev and other change orders.
