Using Arena for change management
What do you like best about the product?
It's easy to track documentation, change orders, etc.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI is very old-looking, outdated. Definitely needs a revamp.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Tracking documentation is great.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Arena is a great tool, but make sure your team has the resources and bandwidth to work on implementation of the platform. It requires some serious effort and the learning curve is quite steep. But it definitely pays dividends.
Overall good experience.
What do you like best about the product?
What I like best about Arena is that it seems very organized and easy to find related documents. I like how it groups similar SOP's and batch records together for training purposes. I also like the reminder emails to remind me when I need to complete modules. I also like that there are lots of fields to search by to find the document that you are looking for.
What do you dislike about the product?
Arena is a little more difficult than our old quality control system. With our old quality control/document system you could check an item out to review and make tracked changes. With Arena, we have been having to email the document to each other to make corrections. This is inconvenient when the document has to be reviewed by multiple people because everyone makes changes on the document sent to them and they have to be combined later which is more work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It helps organize and group all related quality documents. It is also nice to be able to see all past versions of the documents. It would be nice to have a representative to come out and train all of us on all of the aspects that could be learned. I feel like arena has a lot more to offer than what we are utilizing it for.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Once you get used to Arena, it is a very useful and powerful system.
Arena is organized but could have more features.
What do you like best about the product?
Part number management is great and organized, when moving from a spreadsheet management system arena is 100x better. In addition, the approval process that arena allows has also been helpful in getting buy in from all members. Lastly change tractability and visibility throughout the life of any part is extremely helpful. It is useful to most teams at the company and is very cross functional and not just one department.
What do you dislike about the product?
The arena projects or quality parts are very linear and the ability to do non linear or parallel tasks would be very helpful and beneficial. In addition, some of the integrations of the system could be stronger and have more of them. In my experience the solidworks integration is weak and requires other add on to function somewhat decently. In addition, an app for this would be great, looking up part drawings in the field by using the web browser is difficult and cumbersome, an app in this day and age should be a given. It can even have limited capabilities of only looking and reviewing existing information.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving the growing pains of going from a small company to a larger global company with members all over the world. The accessibility of the software worldwide has been very beneficial in that sense and has helped everything stay organized even if it has taken a few restructuring to get it to something that we like.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Arena is a good PLM that has been able to grow with us.
I use Arena every day and know how to navigate it
What do you like best about the product?
That it is easy to find documents and view item history
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes a long time to display search results
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Revision control.
Arena has turned a messy storage drive into an organized cloud based solution.
What do you like best about the product?
I like that, as a designer, I am able to upload production ready artwork files along with working artwork files. This ensures that whatever is uploaded to Arena is the latest revision being sent to our vendor. And if the artwork needs updated I can quickly download the working file, edit, and resubmit.
What do you dislike about the product?
The search bar is not very functional. I can never actually seem to find what I'm looking for when I know it exists. I would like to see a text editor / microsoft word build into Arena. Also, being able to save a file directly from Adobe Illustrator to Arena would be game changing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We solved a problem regarding our process. With Arena we are now able to have a sufficient Design to Engineering to Vendor process.
Interesting, but still waiting for some big improvements that align with CMII principles
What do you like best about the product?
User interface, Change routing, approval routings
What do you dislike about the product?
At its core, it still acts like a BOM control software and not a real PLM database... The revision of the BOM is what forces the user to have to have a revision for a custom part (MTS part) or assembly. This limits the flexibility in allowing a custom part/assy to just be a number (no revision) and allowing its BOM document to have its own revision (i.e. rev. 3.1).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Arena PLM (not QMS module) has been used at our company for over 13 years. I have used it since 2007 when I came onboard. One of the major benefits is zero hardware maintenance due the cloud infrastructure. The other major benefit is the continuous upgrades to features and capabilities.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Learn CMII through the Institute of Process Excellence to fully understand best practices before judging Arena PLM or other PLM software.
Graphic Designer
What do you like best about the product?
A robust file organization system to keep the most up to date files and artworks at the forefront, keeping outdated and incomplete projects out of the way.
What do you dislike about the product?
The onboarding phase is extraordinarily complex for a lot of people. When people begin to get frustrated or confused, they employ their out systems out of arena, introducing confusing and inaccuracies
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Our company solved the issue of a clunky and "crafty" organization system without that many checks that were easy to follow up on. We've found a greater level of organization and has expedited the means of greater change and growth.
Web-based engineering BOM and Drawing tool with intuitive interface
What do you like best about the product?
As an engineer who uses Arena to create our product items and BOMs, I like the fact that all the drawings and associated files that need to go to the Supplier are all stored in 1 location. Previously we had multiple systems and storage locations for different types of files and that meant that not everyone knew where to find all the files. Now it's simple to find all the files with a quick search and click of the mouse.
What do you dislike about the product?
The workflow for capturing costs and approvals related to ECR implementation could be better. I would like to see a system where we could export a form from the ECR and send to the Supplier. They could fill in any costs related to the change such as tooling costs, cost changes, scrap or rework costs, etc. Then this form could be imported into Arena. Then at the ECR stage the evaluation team could review and approve these costs and the material disposition plan.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Working at a company with multiple world wide design and manufacturing locations has made communication simple and accessible to all.
Reliable software
What do you like best about the product?
I like the customization and the approver tracking. I also like that is it easy to link with Jama.
What do you dislike about the product?
The Arena server is very slow and that can be frustration. There are also so many emails that it is too hard to keep track. I think a daily email would be more helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Medical device document control. I submit all of my reports through this system and then it is easy for the audit team to pull them and call them. The virtual sign offs are also helpful.
Recommend to companies that organize large amounts of CAD data while working with suppliers
What do you like best about the product?
The integration with solidworks PDM
BOM organization
categorization of parts
BOM organization
categorization of parts
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes a while to find what you're looking for if you don't know exactly what the SKU is
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Solving organization of multiple assemblies with components greater than 200 pieces, while categorizing the different components based on department (packaging, electronics, hardware, software, etc.) and sharing to suppliers in a non-confusing manner
