Rancher review
What do you like best about the product?
user-friendly interface, robust management capabilities for Kubernetes clusters, seamless integration with various cloud providers, and extensive support for container orchestration. Rancher’s ability to simplify the deployment and management of Kubernetes has been praised, making it easier for users to adopt containerized applications in their infrastructure.
What do you dislike about the product?
occasional complexities in setting up and configuring more complex deployments, resource usage in large-scale environments, or compatibility problems with specific infrastructure configurations.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Rancher includes robust security features such as role-based access control (RBAC) and integrates with various authentication providers. This enhances the security of Kubernetes clusters and ensures proper access management.
A relatively simple installation and powerful interface.
What do you like best about the product?
One of the best features is the ease of installlation, eg. with helm charts.
Additionally the ability to spin up other environments without needing to acquire support for them to test things.
What do you dislike about the product?
Unable to move clusters between Rancher management instances. Sometimes the permissions can be a bit awkward or confusing (though I think this may just be true of Kubernetes in general and not specifically Rancher). The licensing can be a bit confusing re: what counts towards a node limit.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are working on standardizing and improving the repeatability of our Application Team's build and deploy processes, and migrating off of legacy shared environments.
more than 4 years of experience
What do you like best about the product?
ease of use and the all in solution for managing kubernetes lifecycle.
What do you dislike about the product?
very slow UI
support is not at the level of a big company like suse
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
access control
multi-cluster management
cloud native support
helm suppport
project level tenants for multi tenancy
Great staff and team; Focus on supporting automation customers needs improvement
What do you like best about the product?
The people and willingness to work with the customer.
Ability to have many options with "downstream" clusters regardless of cloud. I cannot speak in comparison against other companies, as I have not used them in the same space.
What do you dislike about the product?
While automation works with Rancher, the support for it seems lacking. Both in paid support and in documentation. Getting help for automation always seems "extra".
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In a hybrid datacenter and cloud deployment, it allows us to focus on one type of standard of Kubeneretes and provide a similar experience to our kubernetes users regardless of where they are hosted.
Good Multi Cluster Management Tool
What do you like best about the product?
* Extremely simple and efficient UI that helps with almost all Kubernetes cluster operations
* All different kubernetes distributions are supported and can be managed from a single pane of glass
* Rancher market place that comes with first class support for some key tools like Istio
* Continuous Delivery module that comes along in the package makes it a true value add feature
What do you dislike about the product?
* Advanced use cases in Public Cloud platforms(AKS, AWS etc) are not fully suported eventhough it is getting evolved based on customer feature requests
* Multi-tenancy in Fleet still need to get matured
* More common tool stacks should be in the list of first class support offerred by Rancher in Rancher Market place
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Multi cluster management of Kubernetes clusters
Rancher Fleet for continuous delivery across a cluster group
Common set of policy rollout using OPA
Rancher istio as Service mesh
Rancher
What do you like best about the product?
It's an extensive management platform catered around managing/creating Kubernetes instances in many ways it makes life easy on what you need to do and how it possible using SUSE Rancher. Where you can add additional features to help with your day-to-day task like installing software with Helm.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, it's not a downside but also not an upside depending on who views it in such a way, but it's rapidly changing at this point in time which makes it a challenge to keep up with how things change and what changes where at the start of the year we were on 2.5 then 2.6 and now 2.7 which large and small changes in-between.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It's an easy to use platform to manage and create to your heart's content with everything you need centralized in one place and if it's not there by default be reassured you can probably add it with ease.
A stable solution that is easy to configure for those who are not hardcore command-line driven
What is most valuable?
SUSE Linux Enterprise is easy to configure for those who are not hardcore command-line driven.
What needs improvement?
If you want to do something simple like changing an IP number, you have to be quite aware of all the configuration files where you will change that. It's not like Windows, where you just click another IP address and reboot the server. Since this is Linux, you need to know the hierarchy of the corporate files that hold that IP number, and you have to know what you're doing.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using SUSE Linux Enterprise for many years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
We don't have any complaints about SUSE Linux Enterprise's stability because it's really, really stable. I cannot even recall any major incidents regarding the solution's stability.
How are customer service and support?
I worked for technical support myself for Micro Focus as a contractor. I know the technical support, and things have changed now with the OpenText acquisition. The 24-hour support is quite good in Salt Lake City, Houston, and Europe. However, there have been some recent changes in the support because of OpenText's recent acquisition of Micro Focus. The EMEA support staff here in the Netherlands are quite capable. I rate SUSE Linux Enterprise's technical support a seven or eight out of ten.
How would you rate customer service and support?
What about the implementation team?
Doing a new setup for the solution based on the open enterprise server takes a few hours. Most of the time is spent waiting for every packet to come in.
What other advice do I have?
Overall, I rate SUSE Linux Enterprise a seven or eight out of ten.
Best in Class Rancher
What do you like best about the product?
Ramcher has played a role in quickly setting up the Kubernetes cluster in a very short time. It is very versatile and helps in the movement and management of Kubernetes across multiple clouds and hyperscalers.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't dislike it, but there are a lot of features and characteristics available which we need to look into in detail and train the SMEs on this.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It seamlessly allowed us to manage the EKS and AKS without any lock-in, helping and providing us with a lot of flexibility across the entire cloud estate through a single pane of glass. It assisted in the entire lifecycle of activities overall to the highest level.
Most consistent container solution ever
What do you like best about the product?
It was pretty simple to set up and very easy to deploy. Very different from other container solutions. When we needed technical support, they solved our problems very quickly in a very short time. It was quite successful in our automation problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
In my opinion, Rancher does not increase its awareness in the market. There should be more technical documentation and technical support teams in local languages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We will use it for our new server virtualization solutions. Thanks to this container structure, we have the possibility of virtualization at the application level. We no longer have to set up a server for every application request.
Good web Application to manage your kubernetes
What do you like best about the product?
helpful web application to manage and monitor your kubernetes cluster.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of templating to monitor e.g. pods and some options are very good hided
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Rancher to have an easy web application access to our kubernetes cluster without using always cli.
