What is our primary use case?

We've used Zerto for file recovery and entire VM recovery.

What is most valuable?

Having a fast recovery time for both of our use cases is invaluable to the business.

The ability to form our backups automatically during the day has saved us, more than a few times.

My impression of Zerto’s near-synchronous replication is very positive. It gets the job done.

Near-synchronous replication is very important for our organization who use a lot of different versions of files across environments and database changes. It's what we do every day and having the functionality of near-instant recovery on entire virtual machines and files is a blessing.

We use Zerto to protect our VMs in our environment. We do daily backups with a different backup management software and having the ability to recover data in under ten seconds has been helpful.

Speed of recovery has been very effective in getting our information back as fast as we're able to get it. The daily backup solution that we use alternatively only allows a single backup versus having continuous backup replication with Zerto, it's a no-brainer.

What needs improvement?

I would like to have more granular notifications for jobs and workloads within the applying case application.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Zerto for around sixteen months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's pretty stable. The company itself has been around long enough to know they're not going anywhere. The number of clients that use them on a day-to-day basis speaks for itself.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

For our environment, scalability does a great job with how it is. It can handle scaling.

How are customer service and support?

Zerto technical support is some of the best around. I know when I reach out to them over the phone or via email, they are there quickly and offer great support.

I would rate them a ten out of ten. Every time I have to call them, they get something ready, very fast, and our issues are resolved quickly.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We still use Veeam.

We chose Zerto because when we started our path with GreenLake, we began looking into other backup utilities and Zerto was highly recommended. After we saw a product demo, we were sold. The demo sold itself very well.

Once the VPG is configured, the automation for backups happens on its own. There's nothing else to do. You can monitor but until you need to recover the files, there's nothing else to do. Zerto is very simple. We enjoy using the product.

The main difference between Veeam and Zerto is that with Zerto, we can get our near-instant recovery window to pull entire virtual machines back from the brink of failure. We might be able to implement more recovery windows for Veeam but from a data storage perspective, Zerto does a great job with deduplication.

How was the initial setup?

We had a third party enable our Zerto configurations. They did a great job. The same VPGs are still running today.

What about the implementation team?

We used an integrator for the setup. We had a good setup. They walked us through any issues we had after the setup.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Zerto a nine out of ten. There is a network issue that my team is still trying to figure out. Once we take care of it, it'll be a perfect ten.

Zerto should be our primary backup solution but until we can get the network issue resolved, it is relegated as a secondary source. It still does its job. We've used it multiple times for specific cases, and it's always passed with flying colors.

What is our primary use case?

We use it primarily for DR situations. Whenever we lose our primary location, we switch to another location. We also backup resources and migrating VMs in and out of different environments, cloud versus on-prem.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is that it provides real-time backup. We're in the financial industry and have to have 100 percent uptime.

It helps us have a lot better uptime than what we would normally have. It's always real-time synced, with instant recovery. We can return to another location if power drops or generators don't work.

It gives us quick uptime. It also helps our customers maintain that trust, so Zerto really does help with trust. We generally use it on-premise.

The near-synchronous replication is really good. It gives us quick uptime. It helps our customers keep that trust in us.

We use Zerto to protect VMs in our environment. Until Zerto, I didn't pay much attention to RPOs. Zerto gives the ability to bring RPOs down to seconds.

For certain use cases, Zerto has a better speed of recovery compared to other solutions but it doesn't tie into our SANs like Veeam does.

What needs improvement?

It is a little expensive.

We could streamline the installation better. The other thing would be ransomware notifications, like IO anomaly notifications. If they integrate with the SAN, that would be valuable to see in terms of snapshots.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Zerto for six to seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We came up with the new version, and it's pretty good. If there's no reason for me to say it's unstable. It's been proven so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

If you buy the licensing, it will scale up to size until you will spend money on it.

How are customer service and support?

Support is helpful.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

If you want to pull from the snapshot instead of tools, then SRMs are better used for this case. It's fast and the first to market with continuous data protection.

Zerto is easier to use. There is some standup at the beginning, you must install the agents. It's easy to use when it's working right, but sometimes, it takes great effort to get it going if something goes down.

We use another solution, Veeam. We keep them both because they're both beneficial for different use cases.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward, but if you have it the first time, you are stranded in the industry. It could take a little figuring out, but Zerto is pretty helpful.

There have been a couple of situations which they weren't able to fix an issue right away. We move everything off to a different server until we can circle around and extend that one.

What about the implementation team?

We did it in-house.

What was our ROI?

Zerto has paid for itself in man-hours saved.

What other advice do I have?

Zerto gives you the ability to bring RPOs in seconds. We can have instant uptime for everything.

It's more expensive than other solutions but it's worth it for our environment. It has made it very easy to restore files because you can restore them down to the second. It's pretty simple. We have the agent and all the hosts.

Overall, I rate the solution an eight out of ten.

What is our primary use case?

We provide disaster recovery with Zerto in two scenarios. One is for our customers using on-premises deployments, and the other is for using the multi-tenant cloud. They're buying the cloud as a service, and we're also protecting that with it.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto is primarily well-recognized as a leader in disaster recovery. It makes it easy for us to talk to our clients about the solution we provide them. Since it is Zerto-powered, we don't have to answer many questions about how it works, its reliability, or its capabilities. Thus, having name recognition, a positive company reputation, and technology benefits us.

What is most valuable?

The platform's ease of deployment and the ability to isolate failovers are key features for our customers who want to perform testing without interrupting their production environments. Those are the two primary use cases.

What needs improvement?

Our operational teams have discussed the ability to integrate multiple Zerto cloud platforms more seamlessly. For example, we have acquired 22 companies over the last seven years. Some already had it deployed, and integrating those existing deployments into our primary deployment is more challenging than it could be. We have provided our feedback to them.

For how long have I used the solution?

Thryv has been using Zerto for about twelve years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

As a product manager, I haven't received any feedback indicating issues with platform stability, which our engineering team would certainly inform me about.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've had no issues with the product scalability so far, whether it's individual customers or even as an aggregated group.

The size of the environment varies. We have some small customers with only a handful of virtual machines and others with two, three, or four virtual machines.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

In our previous company, we used VMware Site Recovery Manager and Veeam. However, over the last 12 to 14 years, we have primarily used Zerto.

How was the initial setup?

We have our private cloud, and that's where we primarily use Zerto. We also manage some Microsoft Azure environments where we have sparingly used the service, mainly because the same functionality is not present as it is when using it in a private cloud.

What was our ROI?

Disaster recovery as a service is a significant component of our overall cloud services. So, the ROI lies in Thryv's profitability, as we offer a managed service that adds value to our customers and generates a profitable revenue stream.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The product's pricing is the one area where it is less competitive. However, we understand why it costs slightly more comparing the features and capabilities. Customers prioritizing price might choose a solution offering different RPOs and RTOs for a lower cost. We have provided feedback on whether there could be a lighter option or alternative that's more cost-effective for the customers while balancing cost and performance. It would help Zerto and us win more business.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The product is superior compared to the other vendors.

What other advice do I have?

We offer disaster recovery as a service powered by Zerto. We have multiple disaster recovery targets in the US and the UK and are expanding into Canada and Hong Kong.

I am happy that they've reconsidered the decision to stop supporting Hyper-V, especially with all the changes happening in the Broadcom world and customers looking at it as a solution. Zerto's continuous support is key.

The near-synchronous feature is a differentiator. Other platforms compete with Zerto, with Veeam being the primary one, trying to get the same capabilities. It is a key factor for clients who need low RPOs and the ability to protect their data with minimal potential data loss. It cannot eliminate the potential for data loss entirely and has a minimal impact. If the customers have a production-impacting event, their data is as close as possible to a mirror of what they had at the time of the production loss. So, it is a significant factor.

To some extent, we have implemented DR with Microsoft. It is less feature-rich and has a different implementation. We offer the service but don't offer much in the public cloud. Replicating out of the public cloud adds a whole other set of challenges. We can replicate it to a VMware-based cloud. However, no VMware tools are available if we want to replicate it outside of Microsoft Azure. It makes for a different recovery and is a bit more labor-intensive.

It has greatly impacted the RPOs. As long as our customers have enough bandwidth to transmit the changes across the network to our cloud, the RPOs generally take a minute. However, if the customer has bandwidth constraints, it can take up to five minutes.

With Zerto, recovery is much cleaner and faster. It's orchestrated better, and the testing capability within the cloud is a valuable differentiator. Unfortunately, we don't have many customers experiencing disasters, so our experience is generally around the testing component and making simulated or even full recoveries for customers seeking that. It has always performed well.

I would give it a nine for everything around capabilities and the product itself. The only drawback is the pricing. If we could get a better pricing model, especially in larger deals where we need to be more competitive for price-conscious customers, that would be beneficial.

Overall, though, I'm happy with Zerto as a partner. My reaction would have been different if the Hyper-V decision hadn't changed, as that would have caused complications for some customers.

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is for backup and disaster recovery.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the disaster recovery capabilities. The fact that we can have a clinic across the country backup in as little as 45 minutes is incredible.

Zerto has enabled us to do disaster recovery in the cloud. This ability is very important because we have over 419 hospitals across the country and being able to quickly get a hospital up in Colorado while I'm in Alabama is impressive. The speed is impressive and it's easy to get it back up.

We use Zerto to protect VMs in our environment. Zerto's overall effect on our RPOs has been fantastic. Coming from our C-suite level and getting reports of how long hospitals are up versus if we do have disaster recovery, the amount of time to recover using Zerto is fantastic. We can have them back up in as little as 45 minutes. I don't have to hear all the bad sides of it, they're very happy when the hospital's back up and making money.

The other company we used before was Commvault, and we had had multiple issues with them with fragmented backups. Some backups weren't taking properly, and we did have a DR situation with them, and they were not able to recover all the data. That was our big push to find something else, and that's where we found Zerto.

Zerto's ease of use compared to other solutions is a ten out of ten.

What needs improvement?

As one who is implementing it, my biggest gripe is the ticketing system. Zerto has since upgraded that, so right now, I have no complaints about it.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Zerto for around one year but my company has been using it for about two.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is a ten out of ten, we haven't had the issues with them like we did with Commvault. I have no complaints.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is seamless. We're able to add another server and within the hour build on top of that.

If we're ever out of licenses, I could just send an email out and say that we need to add some more, and it's done.

Our environment is large. We have 419 hospitals across the country.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is a ten out of ten. I have not had any issues with them. It's been fantastic every time I've had to deal with them. They've resolved all of my issues.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was easy and seamless. We put in a ticket. They get our new servers added and within an hour we have new deployed servers on the solution.

We see ROI in the uptime of hospitals that had a disaster recovery scenario and how quickly they're back up and making money at those hospitals.

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is to continuously replicate our VMs to our DR site. Having the ability to recover them at almost any point in time, mostly back thirty days, is the main purpose of Zerto.

How has it helped my organization?

We didn't previously have a continuous replication tool and now we have the ability to recover to any number of points in time. That's really beneficial to us. It cuts down our recovery time.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is how quickly it powers down the original source VMs and the speed at which it powers up the new VMs. The amount of time it takes to put up the operating system is valuable. The speed is what I like the best.

The near-synchronous replication is awesome. When you get hit by a cyberattack, you never know where the clean VM resides, and at what point in time it actually exists. Having the ability to find the point in time when we are clean is a good thing.

We are going from a physical data center to a physical data center at the moment.

We use Zerto to protect VMs in our environment. It increased our ability to restore at a point in time. We didn't have it before, and now we have it.

Compared to other tools, Zerto is a lot faster. There are tools with your primary block storage backup, but they're just not as fast.

What needs improvement?

I'm having a problem with CentOS 7 and with VMs with multiple network adapters. Zerto recognizes those multiple network adapters on CentOS 7 vm but it will not give me the option to specify a failover IP, for that particular VM. Something's not working right, but Zerto is going to follow up.

For how long have I used the solution?

Zerto has been in production for three months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It seems stable so far.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability seems pretty easy.

How are customer service and support?

Customer service is really good. Technical technical support is lacking. At least from who I've been talking to. Maybe my case has not gotten bumped up to the higher level technicians. Customer support is great, and they're really responsive but their technical knowledge is just not quite there.

Zerto's documentation is outdated. I'm finding it hard to find documents related to my questions. Their documentation is bad.

The initial setup was very easy. We needed a little help with the initial configuration, but it was pretty straightforward.

What about the implementation team?

We worked with Eagle Technologies for the deployment. We loved them.

I wasn't involved in negotiating any pricing. It evidently worked into our budget.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We also looked at Cohesity and Rubrik. I don't know that there's anything like Zerto. We went with Zerto because our third-party vendor recommended it. We also did a proof of concept two years ago. We liked what we saw with Zerto so we went with it.

Everybody taunts their one pane of glass but Zerto is simple to use. I really like the GUI, the interface is not too busy.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Zerto a nine out of ten. We don't have a test network setup. I know with Zerto, you can simulate a recovery.

Zerto would be a perfect ten if the documentation was easier and if level 1 support would be more knowledgeable.

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to protect our general workloads, migrating VMs to the cloud and protecting VMs in the cloud. Our primary use case is to protect and provide DR.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto has enabled us to mature our DR stance quite a bit in how we protect functions.

The near-synchronous replication works pretty well. Going from RPOs of an hour to five seconds is pretty interesting.

Zerto enables us to do disaster recovery in the cloud rather than in a physical data center.

Having disaster recovery in the cloud is very important for our organization as we're currently moving our production workloads to the cloud.

We use Zerto to help protect VMs in our environment. Our RPOs are getting lower.

The speed of recovery in Zerto is much faster than with SRM.

What is most valuable?

The on-prem to Azure, migration, and protection aspects are good. Zerto is one of the few tools that work pretty good and at moving between regions or clouds.

The near-synchronous replication is good.

What needs improvement?

Automated protection of workloads from one site to another could be improved. For example, with SRM, you can create a VM, and it automatically protects it based on mappings and other factors. Zerto does not do this.

I have been using Zerto for about a year.

It can throw us for a loop at times and it can be challenging to figure out.

We are pretty large-scale. It's been one of the challenges, as it seems pretty simple for smaller scales, but as you get larger, it gets more challenging, which is where the automation piece and lack of that comes in.

How are customer service and support?

Level one and level two are excellent. The development team is a challenge sometimes because they work four days a week. Sometimes, when we have to have a Dev escalation or a severe issue, it takes quite a long time to get a response.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use SRM and Commvault. Zerto is better than both of them. Commvault is not great at Orchestration DR, and SRM locks you into VMware.

How was the initial setup?

We were early adopters, so the deployment has been challenging, but it's definitely getting more mature and better as we go.

We bought it from a reseller but we used Zerto services to get it going.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

It has reasonable pricing comparable to VMware and others.

Overall, I rate Zerto an eight out of ten because it makes testing easy and provides flexibility between on-premises and various clouds.

What is our primary use case?

We store a lot of raw data for reporting and use Zerto to protect that data.

Before implementing Zerto, we lacked a data protection and recovery solution, resulting in a significant data loss incident of approximately 70 percent during a past event.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto is easy to use.

The near-synchronous replication offers a critical advantage for our customers' multi-platform environments by providing continuous data protection with minimal delay.

The main benefit of Zerto is that it doesn't affect the performance of the cloud platform while protecting the data. We realized the benefits of Zerto within the first three months.

Zerto's implementation has significantly improved our recovery time objective, allowing us to get our systems back online much quicker.

Zerto has significantly improved our disaster recovery capabilities, reducing downtime from days to just two hours.

With Zerto in place, our disaster recovery time has been reduced to a maximum of two days, whereas previously we lacked a recovery solution altogether.

Our disaster recovery testing with Zerto exceeded expectations. We aimed to restore all data within five days, but using Zerto's capabilities, we achieved a full recovery in just two days.

What is our primary use case?

We use Zerto for disaster recovery and cloud migration.

We are an MSP, so we have Zerto deployed on multiple public clouds, private clouds, and on-premises.

We implemented Zerto because its continuous data protection significantly reduces data loss and downtime costs. In the event of a production issue, we can quickly recover using the user-friendly Check Point feature. Zerto also offers flexible support for storage models, primary and disaster recovery, and hypervisors.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto's user-friendly interface simplifies data protection tasks. It allows users to create virtual protection groups easily, configure failover and recovery processes, and manage licenses.

Zerto's near-synchronous replication can replicate our primary data center services related to PR, which is essential. But somehow, we are facing some pros and cons on this. If we face any challenge like a ransomware attack on our PR site, with the synchronous mode, it is also replicated on DR. That can affect us. So, if we use an asynchronous model, our data will not be replicated continuously from the PR site to the DR site. There is a specific time bracket where the data has been replicated after a particular time frame. So, there are different types of business cases and business requirements. However, we are comfortable with the near-synchronous model.

Zerto helps us set up any disaster recovery site on a cloud-based model and establish an on-premises-to-cloud migration plan. The continuous data protection feature protects our infrastructure services from ransomware and other bugs.

Our virtual protection groups safeguard virtual machines across various models, including hypervisors and virtualized environments. When configured to route to our disaster recovery site after synchronization between sites A and B, VPGs achieve our desired Recovery Time Objective and Recovery Point Objective, meeting our Service Level Agreement. Flexible protection models range from 250MB to 350MB, with varying time slots to facilitate data recovery between the PR and DR sites.

Zerto provides two functionalities: live migration and test failover. Live migration allows a seamless transition of our primary machine to the disaster recovery site within ten minutes.

Zerto has reduced our RTO from 30 seconds to three to nine seconds and has helped reduce downtime.

Zerto has helped save time in a data recovery situation and helped reduce our DR testing.

It has improved our IT resiliency strategy by 90 percent.

The ability to perform disaster recovery in the cloud is helpful because it can reduce our DR footprint and time.

What is our primary use case?

We use Zerto to protect our centralized environment on our data center.

We implemented Zerto to ensure our environment keeps running in the event of power failure or hardware issues.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto is extremely easy to use.

The near synchronous replication is powerful and eliminates the need to use other storage solutions. The near synchronous replication is important for the services that we are providing.

It has drastically reduced our downtime. Previously, recovering from an issue took three days, but now with Zerto, we're back up and running in about an hour, minimizing disruption and keeping our business operational.

We used to rely solely on Veeam for backups, but now we have a layered approach. We still perform Veeam backups for long-term data protection. However, we've added Zerto for disaster recovery, enabling much faster recoveries of our critical systems in case of a major outage. This way, we have both comprehensive backups and the ability to get our key functions back up and running quickly.

Zerto boasts faster recovery speeds than Veeam and offers a significantly easier testing process.

How was the initial setup?

The deployment was straightforward. It was completed by one person in one day.

How has it helped my organization?

Zerto's ease of use is moderate.

The near-synchronous replication is good.

We use Zerto to help protect our VMs.

Zerto improved our recovery point objective, but to achieve long-term data retention we had to invest in additional local storage.

From an IT resilience perspective, our UK-wide implementation ensured a swift recovery, solidifying the strategy's effectiveness.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

While Zerto excels in disaster recovery, its backup capabilities fall short. To ensure proper data protection, we require a separate backup solution alongside Zerto for disaster recovery therefore the price for Zerto is high.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

In our search for a cloud-based disaster recovery solution, we considered both Veeam Cloud Connect and Zerto, ultimately choosing the latter.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Zerto seven out of ten. It only works for virtual machines, not physical ones. This means we need separate software for physical machine backup, which adds complexity and cost.

Zerto's recovery speed falls in line with what we've experienced from other disaster recovery solutions.

Disaster recovery testing was prevented due to security restrictions. Our policies don't permit creating a sandbox environment that interacts with Zerto.

Four people are required for the maintenance of Zerto.

I recommend Zerto for disaster recovery purposes.
