Better than the Rest - Linux Edition

  • August 05, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RHEL's interface makes it easy to navigate. It almost feels as if the developers of this Linux platform kept user experience in mind. Many of its built-in programs are easily navigable. Perhaps this comes more naturally to a developer whose first Linux system is not RHEL, but it does maintain all the functionalities of a Linux environment for a developer looking to code in practically any language (C++, Python, Java, etc). It is a stable Linux platform with security and speed.
What do you dislike about the product?
Price is a disadvantage of RHEL. It is not like other Linux distributions that are similar to RHEL and free. If you do not need RHEL and are not working on projects that require its robust attributes, then consider other Linux systems. In addition, getting certain packages on a RHEL system can be frustrating, especially if you lack the initial experience with Linux environments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
WIth RHEL, we are creating tools that will help management compile data on how well their developers are doing. Developers work in a Linux environment using RHEL. The system provides the security that the developers require to do their end of the work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do not start with RHEL if you are inexperienced with Linux. If your company does not need RHEL, do not invest in it. However, if you are looking for security and sturdiness, then RHEL is one of the best Linux distributions to exist.

Redhat OS as a base for your enterprise applicstions

  • July 26, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part of any tools from redhat is the extensive online documentation available of the products.
Redhat OS in particular is easy to use and manage. All our products are running seamlessly on top of redhat OS.

Since we are premier customer of redhat we get dedicated TAM providing 24*7 support.
What do you dislike about the product?
The kernel management for this OS can be tricky as there are many options to play with.
As with any linux OS, any changes should be properly checked before applying as you may loose data.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Redhat is the base OS for all our products. All our testing, UAT and PROD is using RHEL based servers both in virtual and physical env.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Before using it in cloud based templates, make sure to get kernel recommendations from redhat first.
Any changes later will be tedious.
Also do use it for clustered based applications along with cluster specific solutions from redhat like gluster FS and HAproxy tools.

Red Hat is still the "big boy" in Linux for enterprise.

  • April 26, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
A very stable and wide supported Linux distro, not only by Red Hat itself, I mean, there is a big list of companies that main business is support RHEL and is the main Linux for some enterprise software solutions like SAP.
What do you dislike about the product?
For the initial setup inside a company (Red Hat satellite, accounts, network services, etc) can be complicated if your staff don't have enough experience, or expensive if your consultants don't have the right technical skill.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Is the main OS for all the infrastructure (cloud and virtualized) for his stability, the benefits are mostly related to fiability and security (after hardening).
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check the background and experience of your consultants, and for internal staff try to select people with enough experience and pay them well.

red hat user since 2007

  • April 07, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like how the commands haven't changed much in decades, while the user interface has improved.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of market share. More people need to know about it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've created my own scripts with ease to speed up my work. Remote accesses such as SSH make it easy to troubleshoot servers remotely. using the up key to toggle through my command history is a fast way to handle repetitive tasks.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's not hard. Get yourself a book from the library like I did. then you'll see it's as easy as anything else.

A secure and well-supported operating system

  • March 01, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
RedHat is for me the best enterprise solution Linux Based actually on the market. It's fast, secure and with an excellent live support. It was one of the first Linux distribution to use a new way to compress packages
called rpm.
It is stable, have a nice GUI and is very fast.
What do you dislike about the product?
This Linux distribution is very expensive and I would not recommend it to small businesses company with limited budgets. It's not very user-friendly for first time Linux user. Compatibility with others Operanting System could be better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use RHEL for every server-side necessity, for virtualization, linux shell scripting, and so on. We also use scripting for schedule our daily backup and some auto-startup activity. The Database activity is also well organized with RHEL.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
As i said before, this Linux distribution is expensive and I would recommend it only if you need RHEL support, but for small company with limited budgets i wouldn't recommend it.

great tool for virtualization KVM

  • January 25, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Excellent Linux kernel virtualization infrastructure excellent. KVM supports full virtualization using Intel VT or AMD-V. KVM is implemented as a loadable kernel module, although in future versions a system call interface can be used and will be integrated directly into the kernel.
What do you dislike about the product?
Limited support for paravirtualization is also available for Linux and Windows guests in the form of a paravirtual network driver
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Speed in virtualizing Host

Good Virtual Software

  • January 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It controls multiple Windows PCs from one console which is actually very cool and easy and flexible. It automatically shifts mouse and keyboard control to multiple PCs via a display matrix which is the best part of the tool that I like.
What do you dislike about the product?
They can provide more support by helping online with the tool. Also, another barrier that I see with the tool is that its Windows only compatible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Could control multiple PCs with one console. Like the KVM (Keyboard. Video, and Mouse) software is very useful is controlling multiple PCs, one such is Multiplicity 3.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For anyone interested to reduce cable cost for connecting and controlling multiple PCs, this tool is very useful in order to control multiple PCs.

KVM - Kernel based Virtual Manager

  • January 23, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It integrates into the Linux kernel and hence it is easy to launch - like does not need to be installed like other hypervisors E.g oracle virtualbox or vmware player. It exists in the kernel as a module and hence it is loaded when the kernel starts and keeps running
What do you dislike about the product?
the process of setting up virtual machines is not very easy and needs more knowledge and practice unlike using other user friendly hypervisors like Oracle virtualbox where everything is GUI based and can be done with the click of mouse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used KVM as part of HP blade servers to spin up new virtual machines for various VNFs. Though there was an initial learning, but once learned it was easy to manage the VNFs - their lifecycle (instantiation, upgrade, downgrade, etc)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
KVM is the default hypervisor for Linux based hosts though other tools like virtualbox can be used.

OpenSource standards based hypervisor. Works with various cloud platforms
What do you dislike about the product?

Private cloud. Many linux distributions support it.
