Very insightful engineering productivity tool
What do you like best about the product?
Hivel provides detailed insights to engineering leaders and helps make data-driven decisions, identify potential bottlenecks or performance issues, drive process improvements, and coach teams better.
Some of the insights like cycle times, deployment frequency, pull request review/merge times, breakdown of work by user stories, tasks, bugs, etc are very powerful.
Shows how R&D effort is distributed between new work, rework, or maintenance at the org, team, or individual level.
The tool is very intuitive, easy to configure, and integrates well with other tools like Jira.

What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing in particular. It would be nice if Hivel can automatically pull team members from Jira.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Engineering productivity, process improvements, analyzing R&D spend - product roadmap vs maintenance, coaching team members.
Showed immediate value fixing low hanging fruits in engg. efficiency
What do you like best about the product?
While we started the whole exploration of engg. efficiency with skepticism, the insights from Hivel very quickly showed us low hanging fruits like open pull requests that were sitting there for a long time, and not on anyone's radar. We were able to clear cross team dependencies, push features to end users, and made internal rules to ensure no PR sits idle for more than a week. This allowed engineers to be happy ensuring their work goes to Prod and doesn't sit dark on their machines. This is one of many such examples where we saw huge improvements in engg. efficiency, and eventually bought positive morale to the team.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's a great product, and a fantastic way to look into engg. efficiency. More people need to be aware of such solutions, and use them to make the lives of engineering teams better.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hivel provided dashboards, surfaced the most important information to us at the right time, and showed areas of improvement to improve overall efficiency of the engg. org. It equally showed ways for us to appreciate hard working engineers, learn best practices from cross teams and grow faster. One interesting feature was around mapping jira stories with git activity which made our estimations and work allocation better.
Good addition to dev tools
What do you like best about the product?
With Hivel, measuring software developer productivity takes minimal effort. It automatically combines info from Git, JIRA and other tools and shows the metrics in a dashboard. We are able to understand whether our planning and estimates are accurate and whether they convert into actual output. Their team also produces very helpful insights on a monthly basis.
Another thing I like about Hivel is the responsiveness of their team - whether engineering, customer success or leadership. They're always available to help and our TAT with them is usually less than 24 hours.

What do you dislike about the product?
There was minor customisation needed in the beginning to adapt to our needs. I would like to track the languages used by developers while coding
I would also like to see the insights being present in the platform which the team confirmed would be available in an upcoming release.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Before Hivel, we were not measuring productivity with data. Managers were compiling spreadsheets manually and most performance reviews were quite subjective. With Hivel, everything needed for a 1:1 conversation between the engineer and their manager is available in one place automatically, saving us a lot of time and eliminating inconsistencies.
Engineering efficiency with Hivel has been a huge positive impact on the org
What do you like best about the product?
Until we saw Hivel's dashboards, metrics, and insights, we were entirely living on gut based decisions. We didn't know what we didn't know, and the efficiency report they shared had all those aha moments. Some metrics are new to us, but helpful. Now, we have a better way to understand what's happening in our teams, what's stopping us, what we can do better. Their goals feature helped us see where we are today, and how we can achieve continuous improvement. Our teams use them regularly and our executive team now relies on Hivel dashboards for bi-weekly meetings to make concrete action plan and clear objectives.
What do you dislike about the product?
Engineering metrics for efficiency are new overall, and may take some time to know how to use them or put into action. Hivel has done a good job explaining those metrics in easy way, and their support team is on slack with faster responses.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We lacked visibility into the reasons behind missing deadlines, or burnt out engineers. Hivel provides real time data to take proactive measures to keep our engineers happy and deliver features to customers on time. Our leadership team now uses Hivel metrics for their internal meetings similar to sales and marketing teams.
Easy to use developer productivity platform
What do you like best about the product?
Hivel is a modern SaaS application that is quite intuitive to use. I especially like the activity screen showing me where different team members are spending their time during the week, who's burning out and who's getting stuck.
I also like the fact that it allows users to go from organisation level view to code level view in just a few clicks for any metric. Their team is also quite agile in making changes or fixing issues.

What do you dislike about the product?
Configurable thresholds are missing. The tool can get better at notifying managers or leaders when certain conditions are either met or not met so that any issues can be addressed ahead of time.
Also, it would be good to have calendar and CI/CD integrations to provide end to end picture of software dev life cycle.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hivel has provided visibility into overall engineering org productivity and efficiency which was missing before. It has also helped with a bit of process standardisation across different teams. As the company is in growth stage, having this platform is a good decision by our management to make data driven decisions
Love the product and overall experience.
What do you like best about the product?
Hivel exceeded our expectations in multiple aspects. The UI/UX is top-notch, and navigating the platform is easy and intuitive. This has helped in quick adoption of the tool across our engineering teams. The onboarding was smooth and painless, and their customer support team was very responsive, making it an overall positive experience.
The Founder is a former CTO, and this background seems to have helped in making the product very relevant for engineering leadership. There is a profound understanding of our pain points and the insights we derive from the dashboards are very valuable in reporting both upward and downward within our company.

What do you dislike about the product?
We would like some more integrations to make the product comprehensive, but we are told these are on the product roadmap.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hivel helps us measure critical DORA metrics like cycle time, mean time to recovery and deployment frequency. The dashboards are intuitive and have enabled us to make data-driven decisions while improving efficiency.
Overall, the tool has been a useful asset in improving our scrum calls and workflows and in creating a culture of continuous improvement.

making our standup calls more productive
What do you like best about the product?
We were spending a lot of time on standup calls for status updates. Now, with Hivel, we can automatically view updates of git activity against jira tickets, making it more productive to spend the time where engineers are stuck, and help them on those areas. This definitely, allowed us to communicate better within the team, and help predict deliverables better ahead of time, without last minute surprises. Looking at git activity against story points also helped us improve our estimates and ensure optimal resource allocation.
What do you dislike about the product?
It takes some learning curve to understand the metrics as some of these are new, but I think most of these are industry standards and people are catching up with them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Saving us time using data instead of manual meetings. It became easier to report team level goals and status to the senior management, which was earlier in a subjective manner.
A must have tool for engineering teams

Intuitive engineering analytics platform
What do you like best about the product?
Ease of use, simple UI, well thought out dashboards and metrics, easy integrations and out of the box setup. It's also quite affordable in comparison to other solutions.
What do you dislike about the product?
Teams setup is manual. Additional integrations can also be supported to provide a comprehensive picture. Great insights provided manually, would be nice to see them within the platform.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hivel is able to provide objective data on my engineering organization, allowing us to make data-driven decisions. It removes the subjectivity and qualitative aspects of measuring engineering performance. It saves time by eliminating the need to manually compile all this information.

What do you dislike about the product?
Building Custom Dashboards is not available at the moment
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hivel has been adopted more as a tool that will help us identify gaps in our processes as an organisation rather than making It to be performance measurement tool. With Hivel, we were able to identify few gaps in our Coding and Review processes.
