AssemblyAI does a good job with transcription
What do you like best about the product?
I am a college professor and used the AssemblyAI speech-to-text API for a qualitative research project. I had hundreds of interviews in a non-English language that needed to be transcribed. AssemblyAI solved my problem fairly easily. It cost me a lot less than what I anticipated. The transcriptions were very accurate and included the special characters in that language.
There are plenty of videos and sources for those who are new to AssemblyAI.

What do you dislike about the product?
I did not have anything specific that I disliked about AssemblyAI.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
AssemblyAI transcribes audio files fairly easily. As a researcher that uses interviews as data, it makes my job a lot easier.

Their documentation was very easy to work with. I was able to hit the ground running within minutes.

Faster transcription would be appreciated.

Best Speech-to-Text Service Overall
What do you like best about the product?
AssemblyAI is seriously impressive. Before I found it, I tried out Google Cloud, Whisper, and some open-source tools for diarization. I even gave Read.ai a shot, but honestly, none of them gave me the results I was looking for.
Then I saw someone mention AssemblyAI on Reddit, and I decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did—their transcription and diarization are on another level. I barely ever need to edit the transcripts, which is rare with these kinds of tools.
The pricing is super reasonable for what you get, and the API is really flexible. I’ve been able to build my own workflows to transcribe meetings, interviews, and videos without any hassle. I use it pretty much every day for transcribing meetings I record on my computer, and I save everything in Markdown format.
If you’re looking for a solid, reliable transcription service that just works, I can’t recommend AssemblyAI enough.

What do you dislike about the product?
It's not that I don't like but I think there is high bareer for non-techs to access the serviece. I know tht they ahve a playground, but it's still scary for peop,e who want to use the service but see the. Some friends who see my workflow wants to mimic but stop when they see the api nterface. The docs are very well detailed, but there are barreres for adoption for certain customer segments still.
Another thing that I would like would to store the cluster of voicers that are recorded I would like the odel to automatically name them. I think this would be too complicated and probably there's privacy concerns involved. But it would be a quality of life approach. But I guess this is a niche need instead of something the custoemr base would be interested at

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
AssemblyAI is solving the problem of turning audio into accurate, structured text—especially with speaker diarization and high transcription quality. It saves me a huge amount of time. I use it to transcribe meetings, interviews, and video content recorded locally on my computer, and the results are so good I rarely need to edit them. Having access to a reliable API also means I can fully automate my workflow and store the transcripts in Markdown, exactly the way I need. It’s made transcription effortless and consistent, which is a big deal for someone who works with audio content daily.
A cutting edge speech to text service
What do you like best about the product?
There were 2 things we were looking for when evaluating speech to text APIs:
1) Quality of the speech to text (the most important thing)
2) Speed of the speech to text
3) Documentation / ease of use.
And after using this service for a few months now, AssemblyAI knocks all 3 out of the park.

What do you dislike about the product?
The one thing we are having slight issues with is speaker diarization with more than 10 speakers. Honestly, it's a bit of an edge case, but something it doesn't do great with all the time. Anything under that though hasn't been an issue, and that's the vast majority of our use case

It creates transcripts for video interviews we conduct on our site.
Excellent quality transcribing

The quality of text it produces even from low quality videos with many speakers and in non-English languages and the ability to accurately identify speakers.

The price is kind of high per hour of transcription, can be costly for long videos.

Clear, accurate transcribing with punctuations and semantic order. Identifying speakers.
Works well
What do you like best about the product?
It works well and is pretty accurate in usage. Using LeMUR summaries is great and works well but needs a defined prompt based on the use case. Can return multiple formats which is great. LeMUR responses return fairly quick and are easy to set up.
What do you dislike about the product?
Takes a moment to start up and sometimes punctuation could be better, it often breaks sentences up into smaller bits.

In our use case, it allows our financial advisers to have a natural conversation with a client and transcribe the whole thing. With lemur summaries we can prompt to answer specific information from the meeting.

AssemblyAI's transcription service is easy to setup and use, while being extremely stable for month.

Nothing comes to mind. I would like more regular information how it compares to competitors as this is a fast moving market.

Integration with complex database systems like VertexDB can be challenging and requires additional development effort. The response latency can sometimes be longer than expected, especially when processing large audio files, which can impact real-time applications that require immediate transcription results.

Much more affordable and accessible then other options
What do you like best about the product?
One of the best things about AssemblyAI is how much more affordable and accessible it is compared to many other options on the market. The pricing is straightforward and budget-friendly, which makes it an excellent choice for both small developers and larger teams. Despite the lower cost, the transcription accuracy and feature set remain top-notch. The API is easy to implement, and the documentation is clear and helpful. It’s reliable, fast, and packed with features like speaker diarization and topic detection that are usually reserved for much more expensive platforms.

Currently there are some features not available to the European users but I believe these are in development.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use it to transcribe conversations between brokers and clients, which ensures that key details aren’t missed and can be easily reviewed or referenced later. This is incredibly valuable for our brokers, who can focus on the conversation without needing to take extensive notes, then use the transcriptions to follow up with tailored advice or next steps.

The documentation is fairly clear, and there's a lot of good libraries to get you going. If you're using any tech stack, or just want to roll your own connection, it's pretty clear what you need to do. Of the several different integrations I'm working with at the moment, this one is the easiest.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting to the API documentation is actually not as easy as I'd like. Because everything seems to run so smoothly, I don't have to work with AAI too often, it just does the job. So when I do need to alter something in my usage, I do need to work out how to get to the API documentation. Minor issue, but it something I think about every time I use it!

We want transcription for videos. This does exactly what we need.
