Good product for in house analytics
What do you like best about the product?
The ability to build a custom model in Framework Manager to standardize the data model across teams.
What do you dislike about the product?
Lack of source control and versioning support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We replaced a third party reporting application that was owned by a competitor and wrote our own external facing reporting application to support our clients.
Experience is great and the application is improving rapidly.
What do you like best about the product?
In 11.1 the ease of use with report design.
What do you dislike about the product?
It seems like more enhancements get rolled out before all bugs are fixed some times. Also, running Cognos on AIX was troublesome in early stages.

Making our data tell stories for our end users.
Analytics for Everyone
What do you like best about the product?
With the latest release of Cognos Analytics, Analysts, now more than ever, can uncover insights and correlations within data that would otherwise not be found. The addition of Watson Analytics capability has made it easier for users to better understand data visualizations and make faster decisions. In addition, the Watson Assist allows users to ask questions of their data and leveraging the software's internal AI, receive recommendations on data packages, objects, visualizations and more. I'm a huge fan of the latest version, 11.1.
What do you dislike about the product?
Need to incorporate an on prem mapping capability. I support the Federal space and many clients have a need for maps, but their environments make it difficult to use a web based mapping system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
So much easier for users, who may not be hard core analysts, obtain insight.

all my researchers are cognos addicts. they are very well in building reports and they like the visualization possibilities

it asks al lot of effeort if you have to change existing reports

we provide our clients with benchmarkinformation so they can improve their way of working

What do you like best about the product?
I feel that the cognos suite of analytics is a phenomenal too for clients to develop key insights in order to develop KPI's and to continue to serve organizations.
What do you dislike about the product?
The initial set up can be cumbersome in some client environments. If the client has a smaller environment and not enough resources to analyze data or set up adequately, finding resources to properly make use of the data can be a challenge as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Gain better insights into the clients business, being able to develop KPI's surrounding not only growth initiatives but also a better ability on evaluating current business practices and the value they bring to the business
Development and out of box
What do you like best about the product?
Cognos community and support is most helpful. From a feature point of view, the ability to develop and extend analytics and reporting beyond basic demands i important.

Diversity of ingestion of data from dissimilar platforms / sources

cost savings on labor / traning

compare multiple products however possible
Data Modules... New improvements coming regularly

I like that I have this trusted product which is working to evolve itself to become more intuitive to use for new users. We like the new data modules providing access to data sources to more users.

With the fast upgrades, the documentation/training material has become outdated very quickly and hard to get a hold of.

Access to more data sources for targeted data reporting.

What do you like best about the product?
It has been easy to intergrate multiple data sources to meet complex reporting and analytical challenges.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is catching up, but is still sometimes difficult for our end users to use.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data exploration and complex analysis.

Understand your business case and integration points. Make sure your infrastructure scales.

What do you like best about the product?
We are working wit a customer in Mexico for deployment of Cognos soluction to establish a BI solution for their Sales Department and it looks and feels very well, nothing to do with the older version of Cognos

The lack of sales training for us Business Partners
