Powerful Integration and Extensions, but Deployment and Customization Can Get Complex

  • May 12, 2026
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The aspect of SAP Business Technology Platform that I like the most is the effective use of its capabilities to integrate fragmented enterprise systems into a unified operational layer without requiring complete overhauls of existing infrastructure.

In the specific case study related to the fintech industry, the primary problem was that such core aspects as customer onboarding, transaction monitoring, compliance procedures, and reporting were handled by different and isolated software solutions. This caused the constant struggle of teams with data synchronization issues between systems. SAP BTP made it possible to implement an integrated platform for transferring data between core business applications, analytics tools, and operational dashboards. However, what caught my attention is not only the ability to integrate different systems but also the simplicity it provided for operational processes within an organization.

One other point that I valued highly was the ability to create extensions and automate workflows. In many cases, when working with large corporations, it may be extremely challenging to perform any modifications of the core ERP system. However, SAP BTP allows creating extensions without significantly interfering with the core system which was very helpful when working with frequently changing regulations and business requirements.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main problem with SAP Business Technology Platform relates to the high level of complexity when it comes to its deployment and further maintenance of the ecosystem.

For instance, in the context of fintech, the task related to compliance operation, transaction reporting, and customer lifecycle workflow integration into SAP BTP was successfully solved by means of implementing many legacy systems into the system. Nevertheless, the process was significantly more demanding on the resources than had been expected at the initial stages of implementation.

Additionally, one of the downsides of this solution could be considered the possibility to customize the system extensively, which can result in high costs in terms of managing processes and dependencies between different elements of the ecosystem in the future.

The challenge here relates to the fact that while solving business needs, teams tend to create a large number of customized workflows and integrations, which can then become hard to manage when the product and other compliance requirements change frequently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) is helping solve the challenge of disconnects between systems, disjointed workflows, and inconsistent visibility in enterprise-level operations.

In a fintech environment, customer onboarding, compliance checks, transaction monitoring, and report generation were all being performed using different independent systems. As such, there would be a lot of work spent reconciling data between systems since updates in one system would not automatically reflect changes across other systems. Such a setup brought about inefficiencies and made the compliance checking and auditing process quite dependent on manual intervention.

Using SAP BTP, it was possible to integrate and coordinate operations between various applications, including the core business applications and the analytics systems. In place of setting up connections and integrations from one system to another, it was possible to streamline data transfers and automate workflows using the platform. The best part of that was operational efficiency and reliability data consistency was improved, reporting processes became easier to undertake, and it was no longer necessary to deal with fragmented processes.

Apart from improved synchronization, SAP BTP was also able to help with process automation for many of the compliance-related and internal processes involving workflows that cut through many departments and legacy systems.

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like SAP Business Technology Platform's strong integration with SAP and non-SAP systems, especially through the Integration Suite. SAP HANA Cloud stands out for its fast in-memory processing, and the BTP Cockpit helps manage services in one place. The Integration Suite helps me connect SAP and non-SAP systems much faster thanks to prebuilt integration flows, adapters, and APIs. This reduces the time I spend on custom integration code and maintenance. It standardizes data movement between applications, increasing reliability and reducing errors in end-to-end business processes. SAP HANA Cloud provides me with a high-performance, scalable cloud database. I also appreciate how the Integration Suite connectors make integrations with other tools like SAP Data Intelligence, SAP Analytics Cloud, Azure Data Factory, and Postman smooth.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is steep, especially around entitlements, account structure, and service discovery in the Cockpit. Pricing transparently could be better, estimating costs before scaling is tricky. Documentation varies widely across services, and some areas feel fragmented or outdated. Initial setup takes more effort than expected. Production setup needed time to configure subaccounts, entitlements, and S/4Hana connectivity. Security and Service bindings had some troubleshooting - better enterprise onboarding guides would help.

What do you like best about the product?
I actually like multiple services like Destination Service and SAP Document Extraction Service because they help to connect my Fiori app with multiple resources and are easy to use. For Destination Service, I can connect my CAPM backend, SAP GUI system, or even any external source with my Fiori applications. SAP Document Extraction Service helps me do OCR techniques in my applications, like extracting text from a document, which I can store and process further. The initial setup of SAP Business Technology Platform was actually very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have a point like there's a service called Business Process Automation, and there's not a copy/paste option between blocks. If I have the same process many times, I need to create each one separately. That's the main problem I'm facing. Also, for assigning roles, I need to do lots of things. There is no straightforward role assignment.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use SAP Business Technology Platform to create and deploy custom Fiori apps, making it easy for my applications to connect with multiple resources and process documents with OCR.
