Worst support ever
We initially started with an open-source version of this called AWX and realized that AWX is a perfect match for our requirements. Having the project near its completion we wanted to have a stable solution with proper support. So we initially set up Ansible Controller and Standard Node with 100 licenses loaded. This marketplace solution was not available during that time.
When the marketplace solution was available I realized its true potential of it as the solution comes with autoscaling and extension nodes to suit our requirements. Most importantly as mentioned on the pricing page it is pay-as-you-go for the licenses. The biggest query I had was we are planning to manage 3000 nodes and how the pricing works. Because we will not be managing these nodes all the time. My question to the AU account manager was if we are planning to manage 100 unique nodes per hour how many extension nodes do we need? Once we manage the first 100 nodes through an extension(100 managed) node can I terminate and use another extension node for the next 100 batches? However, RHEL was unable to provide a proper answer on whether this works as PAYG or BYOL. Having gone through many email loops, finally, RHEL is suggesting we go with the standalone installation method with 3000 licenses loaded. So my question is what is the purpose of this coupled with extension nodes? Is this only for customers who are planning to manage 100 nodes maximum?
I must say that the product works fine except that it does not support mesh nodes at this stage. It is mainly not clear how pricing works for this for 1000+ managed nodes.
I recommend anyone planning to use this better ask the same question.
