Jama Connect - a good requirement management tool

  • August 26, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect provides the combination of requirement and test management for manual testing. For the requirement management aspect, the tool provides a good traceability. It helps to increase the efficiency with reuse and sync features.
What do you dislike about the product?
Downside from Dashboard: Lack of flexibility on Dashboard widget . Here Jira provides an example for a great dashboard feature such as Burndown Chart.
Downside from Workflow: workflow is great but does not have enough flexibility such as combination of transition with a required attribute (such as by a transition from in progress to close, user must specify the resolution)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We make used of Jama Connect for our requirement management, test and bug management in the development phase. That provides us a good traceability, transparency and increases the efficiency.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Get the trial license, talk to the consultants about how Jama Connect could fulfill your intended usage. I think that would help.

    Legal Services

Jama moved our requirements and test processes out of the 1990s.

What do you like best about the product?
The collaboration tools have had the most impact. We are able to reduce our number of meetings and save less time waiting on feedback loops and herding email chains. The reporting capabilities has really shown where we have holes in our processes that need improvement.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is a very large, complex system so it will take years to see the full effect of Jama. Since we are small shop that is not held to FDA or ISO guidelines there are features that we may never utilize. The model tool is very bad and needs a complete redesign. We are still using Visio and Lucid Chart for modeling.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Collaboration and getting the stakeholders to make comments directly on requirements vs. vague emails. We are moving into having our dev teams document their tech specs and unit tests, making this a full ALM tool.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a large and complex system. Be sure to have a short term and long term plan for use, training, and expansion across your firm.

JAMA Review

  • June 19, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Love how simple but modern the UI is. Because of it, coworkers and customers get use to it quickly.
What do you dislike about the product?
Does not include a planning tool for test coordination
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
No more using physical documents or have to generate manual reports.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Recommend to have an integration with a proposal tool which will allow the industry to not just test and have requirements, but to evaluate and provide cost input for development.

    Financial Services

Great user experience for business analysts, testers and stakeholders.

What do you like best about the product?
The tool is intuitive, it is flexible, it supports different processes, adaptable to waterfall or agile. Collaboration is an important feature and benefit.
What do you dislike about the product?
That i cannot build stronger workflows, that Jama cloud does not allow me to get to the logs myself, or to build reports myself.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problems that i have resolved: Requirements management, release management, test management, visibility, transparency for projects, collaboration, approvals, version control, traceability.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your homework, ask for references, see real life examples, use it during a trial period.

Excellent customer support!

  • June 08, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have really like the customer support from Jama. When we first engaged, we have 4 days of professional services to help understand our needs and configure our instance. And ever since, I've had great engagement with the sales team to help make our pilot a success.
What do you dislike about the product?
I've never been a fan of Jama connect automatically opening up tabs within the site each time I click on something. I invariably end up closing many unneeded pages each time I use Jama.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have problems with traceability from our customer requirements to validation tests. This has been caught in audits previously. Our intention is to solve this problem with Jama.

Using Jama in Semiconductor development process

  • June 08, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama provides great flexibility in adjusting its data structure to match business needs.
The blend of requirements, comments and test case provides a powerful single-platform to collaborate on a project.
The single platform plus version control ensures that the latest information shared with team member cross the globe.
The user interface is very intuitive as it is hierarchical and similar to Explorer
What do you dislike about the product?
Jama Support sometime struggles to keep up with customer feedbacks, causing bugs or glitches to take have a longer than expected resolution cycle.
Fields to host data should have more options to constrain the data type and allows smoother back and integration.
Export to complex document gets very difficult to maintain (java embedded in a word document template) to the point that it's better to have dedicated scripts leveraging rest API + python.
The GUI has glitches where for example it closes the hierarchy after specific commands or has minor limitations such as lack of 1-click complete cloning of objets
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sharing updated requirements across team, allows code to be automatically generated from requirements. Test the requirements and share results to the team with team member located in multiple timezones.
Have a development flow complaint with functional safety.
Re-use IP across projects.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use python + rest api to generate documents

Easy to maintain and manage

  • December 03, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Very easy and intuitive user interface. Once everything (documentation, linkages, traceability) is setup, the software is very easy to maintain and manage.
What do you dislike about the product?
The difficulty of ensuring documentation format consistency is an issue. Some documents (ie., spreadsheets) are difficult to import without a large degree of preparation and editing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We have a very complex product with multiple (10+) subsystems, all interconnected in many degrees of complexity. The ability to maintain requirements and the trace linkages for all is a great benefit for us as we face auditing on a regular basis.

Quirky but powerful

  • December 02, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Fully web based, no clients. Built in review capability, powerful re-use and trace-ability features.
What do you dislike about the product?
UI can be quirky and inconsistent. Some aspects such as Review center feel bolted on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We use Jama to have a relatively consistent method of defining and tracking requirements across the company.

Jama Connect is an invaluable tool to have in your toolbox

  • November 27, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect has a modern intuitive interface. Most employees and contractors have no trouble spooling up in order to use it. More importantly, the back end of Jama Connect is well though out and easily configurable for a wide range of user needs. Jama is flexible to be used in many ways by many groups for many types of workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
We are waiting for the day when Jama Connect projects among various cooperative organizations (with separate instances of Jama Connect) can sync. Right now, our customers and vendors participate in Jama Review Center, but how do they import/maintain our requirements into their own projects in order to derive requirements, show traceability, and roll up verification progress?

We'd also like to see graphs, reports, etc. that show how a project matures and changes over time. Most widgets and filters only capture the current view. I'd like to see a stacked area chart of how many requirements (for example) are in each status level. This is useful to provide managers with high-level view of project progress.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Communication. Communication is the number one critical activity we do in the workplace. Jama Connect helps us communicate throughout the R&V process both internally and externally.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Unlike some competing products, Jama Connect is a quality stand-alone tool that is only improved (not ruined) by regular updates.
