What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect is highly and easily customizable. Each item can be customized to the specific needs. Jama Connect helps to create and maintain the documentation for products in regulated environments, like medical devices, from design input to design output. It ensures full traceability between Requirements on different levels, to Risk Management and Mitigations, down to V&V results to fulfill regulatory requirements. Jama Connect allows to define specific traceability rules and is able to analyze the impact of changes to downstream items.
Collaboration is also a big plus in Jama Connect. With the integrated Review Center, it is easy and intuitive to gather feedback in an early stage already, and also to collect approvals for releasing the content. This helps to eliminate the need of having long and exhausting review meetings.
Finalized content can be exported in pre-installed, but also into customized reports/documents.
Jama Connect can integrate with a variety of 3rd party systems like Jira, to also achieve traceability across other platforms and tools.
The support of Jama Connect is fast and can solve issues in a very short time.
What do you dislike about the product?
When using Jama Connect on a self-hosted server, the installation, administration and maintenance might be tricky. But Jama Connect offers reliable and secure Cloud environments, so that you don't have to deal with it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When working in highly regulated environments like the medical business, there are strict requirements on the documentation through the complete product lifecycle. Jama Connect helps to fulfill these requirements during development, but also for design changes after the release. With Jama Connect, we are able to easily create all the required documents for the registration of our products all around the world.

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect is very user friendly and intuitive compared to another requirements management tool I've used in the past.
What do you dislike about the product?
Templates require custom programming with Velocity or Mail Merge.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Jama is solving a problem that has plagued my organization for some time and that is traceability (and linkage) between requirements documentation and risk management documentation. With Jama now implemented, it is informing users when they have missing links, suspect links or gaps where links are expected. It provides feedback to the user that changes that they are making, although may be very simple, are impacting other documents that they may not have realized.

What is our primary use case?

My main use cases for Jama Connect involve managing our requirements through to test and validation. This includes reviewing the requirements, using the review functionality, and supporting our whole requirements management process from end to end.

What is most valuable?

The most helpful features that Jama Connect provides me are Impact Analysis and the review functionality. Impact analysis is essential because we do thousands of requirements.

Jama Connect helps me by getting everybody's opinion in one location. It saves time. All the review goes out at the same time to several people, and it's easier to keep all the comments in one place, and then manage them through review and approval through the tool.

The Impact Analysis feature impacts my decision making when I have projects. If we have a change to a requirement, we have to understand what implication it has further down the process, testing and validation and then back to the customer.

We do a lot of traceability with Jama Connect. We get to decompose all our requirements, so we can make sure that we've actually met the requirement by using the traceability tool.

The impact that Jama Connect provides for my company overall is significant as it saves a huge amount of time. We capture more issues up front now than what we did further down the process, so we've saved a lot of money. We don't do so much rework, and it's good communication between everybody. Everybody's on the same page with lots of benefits.

What needs improvement?

The text and diagram handling in Jama Connect could be improved. The formatting is quite tricky, and diagrams don't import sometimes depending on the format. Importing diagrams into a requirement can be quite challenging.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Jama Connect for about five years now.

How are customer service and support?

I am very satisfied with the support of Jama Connect; it's excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with DOORS before, but DOORS is more expensive and harder to use. The user interface is trickier for people.

The difference in price is noticeable between DOORS and Jama Connect, with more than a 10% difference.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup of Jama Connect was very straightforward because we had Jama Connect support supporting us.

It takes approximately half an hour to deploy the tool for reviewers that don't have any training at all. If you're setting up structures, then it takes longer. It's also linked in with the way we want to structure our requirements. We have created templates so that people can just go in and set it up.

What other advice do I have?

Integrating Jama Connect with Jira was smooth and not difficult at all. On a scale of 1-10, I rate Jama Connect an 8.

A User Centric tool for Requirements Management

What do you like best about the product?
Compared to other tools (my main experience is with DOORS 9.3), Jama Connect provides a vastly superior interface that is far more welcoming and easier to use in comparison. Conducting reviews and approving items is all done within the tool, so the entire history, the engagement and the results are all stored together.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting data out of Jama into formats such as a Word Document or Excel Spreadsheet, is supported out of the box, but customising the output to get it how you like using Word Templates is still extremely difficult and unintuitive. The next option is to use Velocity Reports, which is superior in getting it how you want, but is another level of complexity entirely.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
JFD is using Jama Connect to be the single source of truth for our latest project. We are trying to use Jama to record all the standard requirements traceability, planning for verification and validation and evidence of which all within the tool. We need to address the culture and processes to take advantage of systems engineering and how requirements management is a benefit, we've got all team members accounts for Jama so that they have easy access to all of their requirements.

What do you like best about the product?
Jama Connect is extremely intuitive. Team members are able to use it immediately without any prior training. We do have a training program that is recommended for the entire team but that serves to show everyone how to take the best out of the tool.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is no particular feature or aspect of the tool that I dislike.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Helping structure requirements, ensuring the requirements are actually viewed by the staff.

Powerful and easy to use Requirement Management Tool

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface and overall ease of use make this tool an excellent product for getting new users fully trained and comfortable with it. In addition, the extensive level of customization and the ability to link items together make it an extremely useful and powerful tool for highly complex engineering projects. Finally, the support offered by the Jama team is exceptional.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing comes to mind. Anytime that we have had any issue, the Jama team was able to assist us.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The tool allows us to capture, link and manage a large number of requirements covering the overall system, the various subsystems and the subsystem components. Additionally, it allows for clear and easy linking between the various requirements and any verification items that they might have.
Additionally it is allowing us to create and maintain requirement sets for product families that can then be copied over to customer specific programs, and at the same time allowing us to select the type of relationship the customer specific requirements should have with the original product requirements.

What do you like best about the product?
Get fast solutions for issues and quick response for questions. I worked with Dona Medhaug.
What do you dislike about the product?
Most of the time, it is difficult to change configuration.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Cannot log on to the production server or database involved. After fixing it, all users can log on to Jama app.

What is our primary use case?

I primarily work with Jama Connect for requirements management.

What is most valuable?

Traceability is a key differentiator for Jama Connect, especially compared to Jira. Many companies find Jira insufficient for proper requirements management. Jama Connect excels in traceability and allows for working with multiple configurations using features like baselines and branches. In the context of cost benefits, it is advantageous for regulated reporting, making it easier to produce necessary documentation for auditors and regulators.

What needs improvement?

The collaboration feature in Jama Connect could be improved because it is only used by a limited number of people within an organization due to license costs. For broader collaboration that includes departments like marketing and engineering, many still rely on tools like Slack or Confluence. Additionally, there are areas where usability and configurability could be enhanced.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Jama Connect since around 2015 or 2017.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Jama Connect handles scalability quite well. Initially, there were concerns about the performance and scalability of the cloud version. However, it turned out to be well-implemented and did not cause significant problems. Generating large reports takes time when there are numerous traceability links, but it has not been a major issue.

How are customer service and support?

In the projects I have been involved in, Jama's technical support has been responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Before Jama Connect, I worked with IBM DOORS, DOORS Next, Jira, Confluence, and, to some extent, Polarion.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing for Jama Connect is considered high by many of the companies I work with. However, it is not as expensive as IBM DOORS or similar tools. Licensing costs are a concern as they make it difficult to allow everyone in an organization to use Jama Connect.

What other advice do I have?

The technical support from Jama receives an eight or even nine out of ten, while IBM's support is rated around a five due to their slower response times. Overall, I would rate Jama Connect eight and a half out of ten, with potential areas for improvement in usability and configurability. I rate the overall solution an 8.5 out of 10.

What is our primary use case?

Jama Connect is used to integrate solutions such as the Google App Store and Microsoft Azure. It provides single identity provider access, enabling Gmail access or Google access for users.

How has it helped my organization?

Through Jama Connect, organizations can configure devices without needing additional IT support, allowing for seamless device access.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the single identity provider capability, which simplifies the integration with various platforms, like Google App Store and Microsoft Azure, for providing user access.

What needs improvement?

There are delays sometimes from the Jama Connect team in resolving issues. It's important to maintain and educate customers about the solutions they have.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have specific knowledge about the Knox, Intune, and Azure platforms due to my involvement in troubleshooting with Jama Connect.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There have been no stability or performance issues with Jama Connect. It works smoothly.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There are no scalability issues. Jama Connect can support thousands of users with appropriate configurations.

How are customer service and support?

When I escalated an issue, Jama's technical support was able to resolve it easily. I would rate their support as eight out of ten.

The initial setup is simple; logging into the solution and adding configurations can be done through the Jama app.

I work on the deployment team, managing the deployment of Jama Connect for our organization.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

There's a comparison made between Jama Connect, Samsung Knox, and Intune.

What other advice do I have?

Jama Connect is a good solution, especially for organizations with a large number of Apple products.

I'd rate the solution nine out of ten.
