Review of CodeSignal

  • February 22, 2020
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
- Very clean UI, easy to navigate and look through problems.
- Nice collection of interview categories and nice sets of problems.
- I really like the ability to look through other peoples solutions after solving it on your own. This really helps to see how others approached the same problem and helped me improve the way I was approaching some of the problems.
What do you dislike about the product?
Certain more advanced questions were lacking in description. The comments section is usually more helpful than the description in these cases.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I've mostly used it to get ready for an interview. Solved all of the interview sets and also used some of the company question sets.

Code review great options

What do you like best about the product?
I liked the challenges. There were a lot of them and different than found in other sites. I think gamifying the process is kind of useful. But to a certain degree. You also need to be constantly gauging whether the level of the user and offer better questions depending on the level of the user. If I have been using the platform a while I feel the questions become kind of samey, that is they look alike after a while, so having a stream of new questions is very important.
What do you dislike about the product?
I think the coding platform could be a little better. Timing could be improved a lot more because time keeps running even when I am not using the website. This makes my score kind of incorrect. The timing should stop when stopped. And the score should be counted against people who are not using. Some of the working of the problems are not correct as well so there needs to be more scrutiny. The test cases should be more evident as to when a test case fails. It seems that challenges are not related to anything. There are names associated with them about they don't necessary have any connection with each other. Also it doesn't seem that the challenge groups are connected to difficulty.
The layout of the site is a little disorienting it needs to be more focuses, less graphics and more simple text options. The coloring makes it too disorienting, since they don't mean much by themselves. You could do better by proving a simple TOC and have explanation as to what happens after each of the options are chosen. It is far too busy right now. As coders this is a big distraction and makes one think that it is for a younger audience. As I mentioned above gamefying is a interesting concept but I think the awards are not that great. That is, it is not enough motivation to try other challenges in the site.
Another big minus for the site is that I cannot revisit my old solutions this is a must because one might want to figure out what was done before and maybe try different ways of solving the same problems. This is not possible currently.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly through the tracks given I like the challenges. I think that giving a goal to the person is great. It keeps the user motivated and challenged. I think the level of difficulty could be improved however. Sometimes the difficult just goes easy all of a sudden and then there are not enough harder or more complex problems.
I am mostly checking out what kind of problems code signal gives, because there isn't a good categorization it is hard for me to figure out if it covers enough breath. So I don't think that it is a benefit, but more something that must be changed. Sometimes it is good to have ad hoc problems i.e. some that cannot be easily categorized.
