MinIO - On-premise S3-compatible Object Storage

  • January 31, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
As far as S3 compatibility goes, MinIO is very close to the S3 object storage capabilities offered in the cloud by AWS, making for easy adoption by end users who are familiar with this design paradigm.
What do you dislike about the product?
Administration is a bit difficult at times due to gaps in documentation and expertise required by engineering team. As a result we have seen occasional stability issues, especially in availability of APIs and services.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
MinIO has made it possible to offer on-premise object storage parity for our end-users, enabling them to use many of the same tools and coding strategies that they would use in the cloud. It is more affordable and offers more control than deploying an AWS Outpost.

Solid Local Alternative to S3

  • December 23, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I've yet to run into an issue with it's S3 compatibility in my use cases. To mimic some features you do need to do additional configuration (ex: versioning with erasure coding) but it does a great job.
What do you dislike about the product?
Can be complicated to operationalize. Upgrades and key rotations without data loss are definitely possible but have been tricky for us to accomplish. This may be just a recent thing but backward incompatible releases have caused issues as well.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Having a local development object storage system for developers have been where we have targeted the use of Minio. In this way we don't need to add the latency and cost of developers going to S3

Best open source tool

  • December 09, 2021
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The best part about this tool is that it is straightforward and scalable. It can be easily integrated with multiple devices like tilleDB, Gitea, etc. It is an open-source tool under Apache 2.0. Easy management is most important in this tool. Moreover, we can store pictures and other objects also.
What do you dislike about the product?
There are some cons, but this tool works best for me the way I want it to be. I store the file's logo, and it also provides an automatic link for the same.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The problem solved by this tool is as we want to move AWS, it provides a good bridge. As we write code, we can run that code on this tool to check whether the code is running perfectly. This is easily configured, installed and needs less effort to use.

Great inhouse replacement for AWS S3

  • October 17, 2021
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's super easy to use and very compatible with S3
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup process could be improved and also the internal file structure that it use can be confusing
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a very private solution but with the flexibility of S3 and possible future migration to AWS
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Spend the time setting it up and also remember that backups will fall under your court. This is another thing to consider with these types of solutions.
