What do you like best about the product?
it's very comprehesive in even the core product. the add on products extend it's ability to monitor for things like databases and network device operations.
What do you dislike about the product?
some of the add ons are a bit costly and the more you add the clunkier the web interface gets
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?

Performance monitoring at another level

  • December 27, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SolarWinds Server and Application Monitor allows monitoring to become much more than traditional monitoring. With SAM you can see the actual performance of the applications - what the end user experiences, not just what's happening on the hardware. There are many built in monitors so getting started is actually very easy.
What do you dislike about the product?
SAM is simple to set up, but can be complex to fully implement. This is actually a feature and a good aspect of the system, but can be difficult or discouraging for new users to the product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We now monitor what the users see. In other monitoring solutions you can see metrics on the servers and up/down status, but not really see performance. With SAM we get both.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Download the free trial and see for yourself.

What do you like best about the product?
Out of the box, you are ready to monitor your entire network. The agentless design makes it easy to deploy across your network
What do you dislike about the product?
Monitoring your entire environment may require multiple pollers There is a limit of 12,000 components per poller, which can be used up quickly depending upon what is being monitored.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were able to monitor all servers, their application status, and hardware components with a single tool

Near Real-Time Notifications when things go down

  • December 22, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The dashboards and alerts that let us know when something is down, often before the phone calls and emails start coming in.
What do you dislike about the product?
The UI can be difficult to navigate at times as it's too cluttered, especially on smaller screens.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Not knowing when servers, websites, etc are down or having issues.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Configure your MIBs right and you'll have a great reporting tool with easy to see alerts in your dashboard and notifications. Extremely helpful for physical server monitoring in a world that's rapidly moving to virtual servers and cloud-based software as a service.

Essential Monitoring For Your IT Environment

  • December 20, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability for this software to give real time information about devices that you have added as well as to provide forecasting capabilities so that you can plan ahead.
What do you dislike about the product?
Setting up the some of the alerts are not as straight forward as I would like and you may have to do some custom scripts for some aspects depending on what you are trying to achieve.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to be alerted about any issues that occur on our network. Be it high CPU utilization, low disk space, virtual machine loss of connectivity, node disconnection and high link utilization. Thus allowing us to identify the issue quickly and implement a solution.

Solid Performance / Ease of Use

  • December 19, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy setup. Great out of the box detail for SNMP. There is very little need for any customization, particularly with Cisco deployments. Graphs and History are well maintained and easy to reference.
What do you dislike about the product?
Initial purchase and maintenance are a bit expensive. Large deployments require additional pollers which add to cost, maintenance, and internal resources needed when some competitive products can achieve the same level of performance from one server.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Monitoring of a large campus network infrastructure. We have been able to automate alerts, provide proactive alerting of equipment failing but not yet out of service. Also reporting provides useful information for decision making in regards to performance, capacity, and replacement intervals for network devices.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Evaluate open source options, consider internal technical expertise if you are entertaining the open source route. Evaluate commercial products using a trial period of 90 days if possible.

Solarwinds SAM, keeping an eye on stuff so I don't have to.

  • December 18, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ability to set custom email alerts, so that even when we are "closed" we can keep an eye on things.
What do you dislike about the product?
The default metrics tend to need a bit of tweaking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We're a small shop and being able to keep an eye on so much in a single pane is such a blessing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is definitely worth your time to try out.
