An expensive solution with easy deployment

  • December 28, 2023
  • Review from a verified AWS customer

What needs improvement?

Datadog is expensive.

How was the initial setup?

The tool's deployment is easy.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution's pricing depends on project volume.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Datadog a seven out of ten.

Expansive data mining and more, some assembly required

  • August 21, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The user interface is nice. I get the feeling that you can do about anything with data piped into this platform. The replay feature was helpful to see exactly how the user navigated around the front end.
What do you dislike about the product?
Session reporting wasn't as verbose and detailed as what I was used to with LogDNA, but this may have been due to our implementation. Seems like you have to have an engineer and data person that are very dedicated to implementation of this tool as well as supporting the team's needs for it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Error logs, user replays

SaaS monitoring platform that allows many forms of integration and automation

  • July 24, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog allows customizable dashboards to show a single view of mutiple data sources. Has real-time analytics. Can also send notifications for any issues or specific metrics set, specifically through Slack is helpful.
What do you dislike about the product?
Mobile format/app format is not great. Takes time to load some data on mobile. The overall dashboard/UI can feel a little cluttered. Mobile mode is not great for viewing.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I guess it's a great idea, and would be an awesome tool to monitor servers across disparate sources. However, the app/mobile is difficult to use. Data and graphs don't load, text is cropped, etc.

Great software, bad support and pricing

  • June 01, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog's primitives are all very good. Their data intake is fast and (usually) reliable, their graphing widget is flexible and works in many places, and their ability to introduce new products combining those (like the CI insights tool) is fantastic. It's one of the few products at work I enjoy using
What do you dislike about the product?
Their handling of their outage earlier this year (in 2023) was bad. They were down for almost a day and while they recovered without data loss, they did a poor job communicating during the incident and did not proactively release the post-mortem (despite their CEO saying it was public on an earnings call!).

We consistently have poor interactions with Datadog support - they go out of their way to avoid talking to you and suggesting solutions that have nothing to do with your environment. Datadog charges such a cost premium - and we pay for the fancy support - that that's simply unacceptable. Their support should be more like AWS and less like Atlassian in terms of actually being helpful and proactive.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Mostly just basic observability for our compute. It does a good job of letting you visualize performance of applications, particularly Kubernetes application in a helpufl way.

Datadog for log management

  • March 20, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's straightforward to ingest logs for applications deployed through AWS. We can easily apply filters in the dashboard to load or fetch records by date, request IDs, and error levels.
What do you dislike about the product?
Creating dashboards and viewing he same is quite tricky over data dog. If I want to see weekly, monthly, and quarterly results and analyze them, it's not straightforward.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Datadog helps in detecting system breakdowns, exceptions and errors through alerts.
In summarizing performance or analytics about the any applications which feeds logs into datadog

Data dog in monitoring and analysing the servers

  • March 11, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
They provide the best monitoring for servers, databases through SaaS based data analytics platform
What do you dislike about the product?
The service is not straight forward, users definitely need to take their time to fully understand its features and how to maximize the benefits of the service
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I am able to get all the insights about my data base usage, space and skewed tables. Datadog helped to analyse the issues quicker and remediation severity incidents.

Affordable Cloud Service Monitoring

  • March 09, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog has tools that do not require a big learning curve. You can easily manage and monitor HTTP traffic in their dashboard. We can quickly take note of any spikes and spread out the workload.
What do you dislike about the product?
It is very robust and easy to learn, but it lacks some key components like automatic detection of devices and standard reporting. If you are looking to monitor network hardware or routers, this is not the software for you, look somewhere else.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We were looking for a solution to monitor and alert us if there were significant spikes in user usage. We can quickly inform our engineers if there are any incidents that need remediation. They are able to monitor any issues when they release new code. We were looking for a tool that can pinpoint the location of the faulty code.

Lots of information but not super intuitive

  • March 07, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog has very clean dashboards that are both easy to use and understand.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish that Datadog provided more education on how to use the product. The UI is very barebones and not super user friendly, causing me to get overwhelmed by the amount of information on a given page.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My main use of Datadog has been to surface errors and address problems in api usage

Powerful but huge learning curve

  • February 14, 2023
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Datadog is extremely powerful and has extensive documentation. Some of the UI is very user-friendly. The customer service has been incredibly helpful with setup, integrations, and troubleshooting.
What do you dislike about the product?
Datadog is so large that to new users it can be overwhelming. At times it felt that even to read documentation or do setup you already needed to be an expert. I still don't quite have a hand on the query language for creating metrics; I tend to reverse engineer those from dashboards.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
More extensive observability with tracing, and the ability to consolidate all of our monitors into one service instead of having them scattered through other services.
