Efficient Deployment with Room for Managed Options
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate the ease of deployment with Coder and their use of tried and tested technologies, like TF for infrastructure management, which aligns with our Infrastructure as Code (IaC). This alignment means we don't need multiple languages to maintain our infrastructure. I find the initial setup quite easy, which is a significant advantage.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish they had a hosted option. As in, deploy provisioner inside our environment, but have the control plane hosted by Coder.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder solves reproducible cloud environments for us.
Seamless Cloud Workspaces That Boost Productivity and Collaboration
What do you like best about the product?
Coder provides a seamless and efficient development environment that makes it easy to spin up and manage workspaces from anywhere. The platform’s flexibility, especially with cloud-based development, helps improve productivity and collaboration across teams. I particularly appreciate how it simplifies environment setup, reduces onboarding time, and ensures consistency across projects. Its performance, customization options, and integration with existing tools make it a reliable choice for modern development workflows.
What do you dislike about the product?
While Coder is powerful, the initial setup and configuration can be complex, especially for teams without strong DevOps experience. There can also be a learning curve when it comes to customizing environments and managing infrastructure efficiently. In some cases, performance may depend heavily on the underlying cloud resources, which can increase costs if not optimized. Additionally, troubleshooting issues can take time due to the multiple layers involved (containers, networking, and cloud services).
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder solves the challenge of setting up and maintaining consistent development environments across teams. It eliminates the need for manual configuration on local machines and reduces “it works on my machine” issues by providing standardized, cloud-based workspaces. This has significantly improved onboarding speed for new developers and reduced setup time. It also enables remote development from any device, which increases flexibility and productivity. Overall, it helps streamline workflows, improve collaboration, and ensure a more reliable and scalable development process.
Easy Setup and Flexible Templates, but Pricing Can Be Hard to Justify
What do you like best about the product?
The open source variant is really easy to set up and start using. It is easy to write templates and integrate your own application into it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Pricing wise it is hard to justify for a smaller team, especially if you just want some of the features but don't care about all of the features.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We can easily QA on merge requests.
Easy Setup and Cost-Effective for On-Demand Development
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that Coder is simple, making the solution straightforward to use. The budget-friendly environments are a significant plus because we can deploy environments on demand, saving money. I also found the initial setup really easy, as we could deploy the demo quickly and went on to purchase the full license after seeing how well it solved a lot of our issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
The documentation is really basic, even though the interface is simple but functional.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Coder simplifies the creation of development and testing environments, saving money through on-demand deployment. Its simple setup solved many issues quickly, and the environments are budget-friendly.
Cost-Effective Environment Replication with Coder
What do you like best about the product?
I like that Coder helps us save a lot in billing compared to using AWS or GCP. The savings during the running of development environments are significant and really assist in keeping the budget under control. It's also great that we can integrate it with Terraform, Ansible, and a lot of developer tools. The initial setup was pretty fast too; we tested and got the product ready in less than three weeks.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's slow but we can accept that
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to create and replicate environments, deploy Ansible and Terraform scripts, and install software efficiently. It saves a lot on billing compared to AWS or GCP, keeping our budget in control.
Efficient Remote Development with Seamless VS Code Integration
What do you like best about the product?
I use Coder at university to manage heavy Python environments and large datasets for AI models. I love that I can save battery life and have easy access to a powerful remote server between my laptop and desktop. I find it incredibly helpful that Coder acts as a remote server running in the browser, allowing me to complete my work without needing to carry around a heavy charger, and I can easily switch to my desktop when I'm home. My favorite part is the seamless integration with VS Code, which makes it feel like I'm working locally, even though I'm not. It's comforting to work in an environment I am familiar with, being a first-year student, and I appreciate not having to switch platforms or learn new quirks and keybinds. I also use Coder with tools like Jupyter Lab, Python via MiniConda, and the Coder AI gateway for GitHub Copilot, making it very versatile for my needs.
What do you dislike about the product?
As a beginner in the industry, I found Coder pretty difficult to initially set up since I wasn't very familiar with Terraform. I'd love to see more official templates in the Coder registry with preconfigured NVIDIA drivers and CUDA. Setting up GPUs for model training was a huge challenge for me as I'm not an expert. I also wish there was a more interactive way to debug the startup_script as it would save a lot of time.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to manage heavy Python environments and large datasets for AI models. It saves my laptop's battery life and allows me to access a powerful remote server easily, making it simple to transition my work from my laptop to my desktop.
Browser-Based IDE Is a Game Changer, Though Sometimes Slower Than Desktop VS Code
What do you like best about the product?
Having an IDE in the browser is a real game changer for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
At times, it feels slower than the desktop version of VS Code.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In our team, we have multiple host setups. Having the IDE in the browser enables us to use the same setup across different developer workstations, which makes it easier to stay consistent regardless of the machine we’re working on.
Easy to Use with Great Integrations, But Palantir Connection Concerns
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate Coder for its ease of use, which helps me orchestrate my AI agents and code quicker. The many integrations are cool, allowing me to use different tools I like and test out others. The initial setup was really easy with good documentation.
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't really like the connection to Palantir. Palantir is not a cool company and spies on people. The connection should be at least loosened if not cut.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use Coder to orchestrate my AI agents and code faster. It lets me use different tools I like and try out others.
Flexible Deployment Modes Let Us Run Coder On-Prem and Cut Cloud Costs
What do you like best about the product?
i especially like Code for the deployment modes, i can run Coder on our on-Premise hardware and avoid Cloud costs
What do you dislike about the product?
the installation is fairly complex, but that may be caused due to the complexity of the topic and seems unavoidable
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we have completely solved the problem of setting up development boxes for different groups of developers through standardization
Efficient Dev Environment with Minor Setup Hiccups
What do you like best about the product?
I appreciate that Coder provides a virtual workspace that allows me to connect and work from wherever I am. Setting it up once gives me a dev environment for both myself and my AI agents, which is a huge time-saver. It also means I can rely on one powerful computer instead of needing multiple machines. This convenience and efficiency make Coder a valuable tool for my work.
What do you dislike about the product?
The setup is once but there are tricky parts, especially with port forwarding. For database connections, I usually need Coder to connect to different ports, and port forwarding wasn’t straightforward for anything other than the web like port 3000.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I set up Coder once for a virtual workspace, saving time on configuring multiple environments. It allows me to work from anywhere and manage a single powerful computer instead of many.
