Ad hoc querying large amounts of data is expensive and slow, cloud TCO is high, and existing solutions have scaling challenges. Cloud data warehouses are expensive proprietary silos. Using a DW for ad hoc querying is an overkill. There is a need to query data directly from the data lake without having to make a data copy into a DW.
