Overview
This product includes content severity ratings for more than 190,000 movies, TV shows, and video games, updated on a daily basis. Drawing from the collective votes of the global IMDb community, the severity ratings provide additional signals about adult/potentially-harmful content and themes within the following categories:
- Sex & Nudity
- Violence & Gore
- Profanity
- Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
- Frightening & Intense Scenes.
For each category, when available, the dataset includes the following:
- An overall severity rating (None, Mild, Moderate, or Severe) based on IMDb user votes
- The count of user votes for each severity rating
Note: An advanced product containing descriptions depicting or summarizing the adult/potentially-harmful scenes and on-screen actions/dialog is also available: IMDb Parents Guide: Severity Ratings & On-Screen Descriptions .
Each title in the dataset is identifiable by the unique IMDb ID. By joining the title ID with the IMDb Essential Metadata or IMDb and Box Office Mojo package, licensees can leverage IMDb content severity ratings to power a variety of advanced use-cases including:
- Refining content classification and discovery applications (search, recommendations, personalizations) to ensure only the most relevant and appropriate content is surfaced to customers of all ages
- Increasing accuracy and appropriateness of ad-placement to ensure and protect brand safety and customer trust
- Displaying detailed severity ratings directly to consumers, enabling them to make informed and safe what-to-watch decisions before they consume content
This product is sold exclusively as an add-on to one of the IMDb core data packages (Essential Metadata or IMDb and Box Office Mojo). The final licensing fee is subject to variables including the specific use case and length of term.
