Overview
Koha Cloud Enterprise is a robust, cloud-based library management solution for academic and public libraries that need reliable, always-available services for their patrons and staff. Built on proven cloud infrastructure, this enterprise solution ensures your library system stays online during peak usage periods or unexpected technical issues.
IMPORTANT - CLOUDFORMATION DEPLOYMENT REQUIRED:
Koha Cloud Enterprise requires deployment via CloudFormation template. The enterprise architecture includes Application Load Balancer, Multi-AZ Auto Scaling Groups, Amazon Aurora database, and Amazon EFS shared storage - components that can only be configured through CloudFormation. Direct AMI launch is not supported.
DESIGNED FOR LIBRARY RELIABILITY:
-
Always-On Service: Your library system runs across multiple independent data centers (Availability Zones). If one data center has issues, your library services automatically continue from another location. This provides 99.99% uptime reliability.
-
Automatic Traffic Management: Smart routing distributes patron and staff access across servers, ensuring fast response during busy periods like semester start or summer reading registration. Automatically redirects around unhealthy servers.
-
Enterprise Database Performance: Amazon Aurora is 5x faster than standard databases. Automatic backups run continuously, and you can restore your data to any point in time within the past 1-35 days.
-
Shared File Storage: Database, configuration, and other files are automatically synchronized across all servers using Amazon EFS for consistent access.
-
Handles Growing Demand: Automatically adjusts server count based on usage. Scales down during quiet periods to save costs. Scales up during busy times to maintain performance.
COMPREHENSIVE BACKUP PROTECTION:
- Dual-Layer Strategy: Aurora continuous backups plus scheduled S3 backups of complete database and configuration
- Point-in-Time Recovery: Restore database to any moment within 1-35 days
- Flexible Retention: Configure from 30 days to several years based on your library's policies
- Cost-Optimized Storage: Intelligent tiering reduces costs while maintaining quick access
- Encrypted Security: AWS encryption standards protect all backups
SECURITY AND COMPLIANCE:
- All patron data and library records encrypted in storage and during transmission
- Automatic security updates and patches
- Secure HTTPS connections for all staff and public access
- Isolated network architecture
BUILT FOR ACADEMIC AND PUBLIC LIBRARIES:
- Multi-language support including right-to-left languages (Arabic, Hebrew)
- Handles thousands of concurrent users during peak periods
- Fully managed infrastructure - IT staff focuses on library services, not server maintenance
- Customizable with your library's domain name and SSL certificates
EASY DEPLOYMENT:
Our CloudFormation template guides you through setup with step-by-step questions. Answer basic preferences (number of instances, backup frequency), click launch, and the template automatically configures all cloud infrastructure. No manual server, database, or networking configuration - done automatically in minutes.
PRICING & AUTOSCALING:
This Enterprise AMI supports Auto Scaling Groups. Marketplace charges apply per running instance. If deployment scales out to multiple instances, each generates software charges while active. When Auto Scaling reduces instances, billing decreases automatically.
AWS Infrastructure Costs: The CloudFormation template creates additional AWS resources (Aurora RDS database, EFS storage, Application Load Balancer, S3 backups, CloudWatch monitoring) that incur separate AWS infrastructure charges billed directly by AWS. IMPORTANT: During the free trial period, only the AMI software is free - you are still responsible for paying AWS infrastructure costs for all AWS services used (RDS, EFS, ALB, S3, EC2 compute, data transfer, etc.). The AMI software cost does not include these infrastructure costs.
Hourly vs. Annual Pricing: For Auto Scaling deployments, hourly pricing is typically more cost-effective as instances incur charges only while running. Annual pricing is suitable for fixed-capacity deployments with a single instance running continuously.
LIMITED-TIME OFFER: FREE MIGRATION ASSISTANCE
Customers upgrading from Free, Basic, or Standard tiers receive complimentary migration guidance during launch period. Includes help exporting existing database and configuration, preparing import, and verifying new Enterprise deployment. Valid 30 days after purchase.
Perfect for medium to large academic libraries, public library systems, and libraries requiring enterprise-grade reliability and performance.
Highlights
- 99.99% uptime reliability with built-in redundancy across multiple availability zones - your library system stays available even if an entire data center fails, automatically scales servers based on patron and staff usage, and handles thousands of concurrent users during peak periods like course registration and summer reading programs
- High-performance Aurora database delivers 5x faster search and checkout than standard databases with dual-layer backup protection: continuous Aurora backups with point-in-time recovery (restore to any moment in the past 1-35 days) plus scheduled S3 backups with flexible retention policies and cost-optimized storage
- Enterprise security and compliance with all data encrypted in storage and during transmission, automatic security updates and patches, secure HTTPS connections, and fully managed infrastructure - no server maintenance required by your IT staff, letting them focus on library services instead of technical operations

CloudFormation Template (CFT)
AWS CloudFormation templates are JSON or YAML-formatted text files that simplify provisioning and management on AWS. The templates describe the service or application architecture you want to deploy, and AWS CloudFormation uses those templates to provision and configure the required services (such as Amazon EC2 instances or Amazon RDS DB instances). The deployed application and associated resources are called a "stack."
