Overview
Advances in fire science and changes in the very things that burn are creating new realities on the front lines of firefighting. It’s important to understand the changes, not only for how they can impact a home or business, but also in how adaptable a community is to the evolving challenges in fire protection.
Verisk’s Public Protection Classification (PPC®) system goes into exhaustive detail, examining the fire protection capabilities of thousands of communities across the United States. Verisk digs into the fine points of fire protection for each community evaluated. The resulting PPC classifications are nine times more predictive of future fire loss than distance to the nearest fire station alone, based on Verisk’s own research. With PPC data, you can better assess fire-suppression abilities in related communities and get a clearer picture of fire risk before issuing a policy.
PPC data sets are available in the following 45 U.S. states: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
