Overview

The purpose of the Splunk Cloud migration is to transfer an on-premises Splunk implementation to Splunk Cloud. The migration service outlined here delivers a solution which reflects Splunk Cloud’s operational best practices and provides tools and expert guidance that help to expedite the migration process. This migration project also helps customers to avoid common issues that arise before and during a typical migration project. A Splunk Cloud Migration project will be completed using a four-phase project structure. The phases are described as follows:

  1. Technical Assessment and Planning: During this phase a technical review of the existing on-premises Splunk environment will be completed. This will include an architecture review, assessment of data sources and apps, planning forwarder architecture, and identification of optimization items that must be implemented for operational success in Splunk Cloud. At the end of this phase a solution design and project plan will be presented to the customer to ensure alignment with customer objectives
  2. Prepare for Migration: During the preparation phase we will guide the customer through the provisioning of the cloud infrastructure with Splunk and implement any fixes or optimizations that must be accomplished prior to migration start. This includes modifications to Splunk App configurations to ensure they are compatible with Splunk Cloud. The Splunk Cloud infrastructure will be configured to communicate with the required on-premises components as well to ensure data can be forwarded to Splunk Cloud.

  3. Migration Execution and Monitoring: This phase will include the actual migration of Apps and configurations into the Splunk environment. After that has been completed, forwarders will be configured to start sending data to the Splunk Cloud instance. The Splunk Cloud instance will be monitored to ensure that all data sources are properly forwarded to the new Splunk environment.

  4. Post-Implementation Support: This phase includes a dedicated number of support hours through Kinney Group’s Splunk Expertise on Demand program which provides the customer with extended implementation support after the installation is complete.

  5. Atlas: KGI will install the Atlas Platform on a Splunk Search Head determined during the Design and Requirements Gathering Phase of the project. The Atlas Platform will assist in the deployment of Splunk while being executed by KGI and will also serve as a post-implementation support tool as Splunk is being operationalized in the Customer’s environment.
