Kotlin is an open-source statically typed programming language that targets the JVM, Android, JavaScript and Native. Its developed by JetBrains.

Kotlin is a modern but already mature programming language aimed to make developers happier. It's concise, safe, interoperable with Java and other languages, and provides many ways to reuse code between multiple platforms for productive programming. Kotlin can be used for any kind of development, be it server-side, client-side web and Android.

Features:

Kotlin has both object-oriented and functional constructs. You can use it in both OO and FP styles, or mix elements of the two. With first-class support for features such as higher-order functions, function types and lambdas, Kotlin is a great choice if you're doing or exploring functional programming.

What build tools support Kotlin?
On the JVM side, the main build tools include Gradle, Maven, Ant, and Kobalt. There are also some build tools available that target client-side JavaScript.
