What is our primary use case?
We have around 1,500 Mac in ABM, but recently enrolled 1,000. We have created limited policies because Jamf for Mac also provides the best feature for catalog and we can integrate ABM for VPP. I have deployed 90% of applications in my organization within this feature without doing the packaging. Apart from 10%, I have created other packages for applications that are not available in Jamf for Mac . For example, the clients need Zscaler, which is available but requires changes for first deployment, so I created the package for Zscaler. Most of the applications are done with packaging.
What is most valuable?
Jamf for Mac has two features recently added: compliance and blueprint. I love the Jamf for Mac catalog very much because most of the third-party applications can be easily upgraded without doing any packaging. One of the greatest features is the one for software updates. I am not getting any issues with macOS updates, patches, or upgrades.
For security enforcement, one or two years ago I was seeking to provide AirDrop access for single or multiple users. Blueprint helped me greatly to create a single profile, and we can easily provide the access that is required for AirDrop, USB, and iCloud as well. Blueprint is a great feature.
For zero-touch, I have integrated with ABM. Most of the devices we are purchasing from Apple. We have a few vendors, and we have integrated and deployed most of the applications during the first setup to enroll the devices with zero-touch.
What needs improvement?
I recommended a feature that is missing for zero-touch. In my last client engagement, they asked whether we can add the system to domain within the enrollment. I believe this is not currently possible. For that kind of issue, I have created a policy and provided the feature so that devices can be enrolled without putting any credentials from the self-service.
My first recommendation is to add the ability to join the system to domain during the enrollment process. Another big issue for us is that when I have updated macOS from the software update, I cannot see the progress of how many systems are going to install for macOS. For example, after I have updated macOS from the software update after creating a smart group, I cannot see the progress. To get the progress, I need to manually open the inventory of every device and check the history.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have around 10 years of experience with Jamf for Mac.
What other advice do I have?
I have good experience with Jamf for Mac and JumpCloud .
For zero-touch, I have integrated with ABM. I recommended a feature that is missing for zero-touch. In my last client engagement, they asked whether we can add the system to domain within the enrollment.
It is a great feature. We can integrate Jamf for Mac with many platforms such as Intune , Okta, and JumpCloud as well for SSO .
I rate Jamf for Mac an eight. JumpCloud, if you ask about JumpCloud, I would rate it a five. If you have a small business, you can use JumpCloud because it provides limited features. However, if you have around 5,000 or 10,000 to 20,000 users, Jamf for Mac is a good fit for Apple devices. I rate this product an eight out of ten.
