This lightweight and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 image is built from the official ISO image, stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to make it integrate seamlessly into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against emerging vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Also Red Hat Update Infrastructure is configured and ready to use without the need of a RedHat subscription or high costs of data traffic over the internet package installation and updates. Other features: key based authentication with 'ec2-user' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. This image repackages free and open source software and all trademarks used inside are the property of their respective owners

You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 EUS with support, billed per running instance. The many dimensions map directly to AWS EC2 instance types, so your rate depends on which instance you launch. Smaller general-purpose instances carry lower hourly rates, while larger compute, memory, storage, GPU, and bare-metal instances carry higher rates. Pricing scales with instance size and capability, not by feature tiers or add-ons. Each RHEL image includes RHUI, so it stays updated at no extra cost. Software charges are separate from the underlying AWS infrastructure charges you also incur.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover, and what am I actually paying for?
Each unit is one running EC2 instance of the selected type, billed per hour. The rate covers the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.4 EUS software licence plus support. You choose the instance type at launch, and that choice sets your hourly software rate. Underlying AWS compute charges are separate.
Am I charged the software rate when my instance is stopped or powered off?
The hourly software charge applies only while an instance runs. A fully stopped instance does not accrue this charge. Note that AWS may still bill you for attached storage and other infrastructure while the instance sits stopped, but the RHEL software meters running hours only.
Do I pay extra for operating system updates on top of the hourly rate?
No. Each RHEL image ships with RHUI configured, which keeps the running image updated at no additional cost. Updates are included in the hourly software charge. You do not pay a separate fee for security patches or package updates delivered through this channel.
