This lightweight and secure Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 image is built from the official ISO image, stripped down to include only the essential packages and required AWS software to make it integrate seamlessly into the AWS infrastructure (AWS CLI, Elastic Network Adapter & NVMe drivers). This results in a minimal image that is fast to boot, reduces storage requirements, and optimizes responsiveness. The image is updated with the latest security patches and updates, providing protection against emerging vulnerabilities and ensuring the stability and reliability of your server environment. Also Red Hat Update Infrastructure is configured and ready to use without the need of a RedHat subscription or high costs of data traffic over the internet package installation and updates. Other features: key based authentication with 'ec2-user' username, cloud-init and SELinux enabled, root login disabled, automatic root disk resize based on the instance volume configuration. This image repackages free and open source software and all trademarks used inside are the property of their respective owners

You pay by the hour for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 with support from Rinne Labs. Pricing is tied to the EC2 instance type you choose, not to separate plans or feature tiers. Each dimension names one instance size, from small general-purpose types like t3.nano up to large memory, compute, storage, and accelerated types such as u7in-32tb.224xlarge and p5.48xlarge. Your hourly rate scales with the instance's size and capability. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs. The RHEL images include update access at no added cost.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for billing?
Each dimension maps to one running EC2 instance of a specific type, such as t3.medium or m6i.large. You are billed for every hour that one instance of that type runs the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.5 image. Each running instance meters separately, so ten instances accrue ten hourly charges.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running hours only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the hourly software fee. Note that underlying AWS resources, such as attached storage, may still bill separately even while the instance is stopped. You pay the RHEL rate only while the instance runs.
Does keeping the image updated add to my hourly cost?
No. The RHEL images ship with RHUI configured, which keeps the running image current at no added cost. Update access is included in the hourly rate you pay for the chosen instance type. The images also include security updates available at the release date.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
