Ready-to-use Edge HW The edge hardware used in the JumpStarter is AWS IoT Greengrass certified. Storm pre-installs the necessary AWS connectors, agents, and AWS Lambda functions to minimize the setup’s time and effort. Once connected to the network of industrial machines, data will be pulled using supported protocols (e. g. OPC-UA, Modbus) or from local relational databases. Mutual authentication ensures identity verification of both Edge Device and MQTT-broker, while authorization allows the device to ship data toward AWS securely over the internet, by means of MQTT over TLS.

Highly Extendable The JumpStarter allows operators to quickly visualize the first metrics through AWS IoT SiteWise Monitor. Raw data is stored in Amazon S3, for long-term archival, while Amazon Athena and Amazon QuickSight provides easy querying and reporting capabilities to the business audience. Once in the AWS cloud, data can be further processed and analyzed by means of the immense variety of ML services such as Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Lookout for Equipment, Amazon Lookout for Vision, etc. The setup enables also the deployment of trained models at Edge for improved data management and on-site decision making. The JumpStarter, part of the Storm’s IoT Innovator Framework, includes some of the core building blocks enabling the development of a complete IIoT Platform.
