You pay by the hour for CentOS Stream 9 with a graphical desktop interface. The software price is the same regardless of size; your hourly rate depends on which AWS EC2 instance type you run it on. Each dimension maps to one instance type, from small general-purpose options to large compute, memory, storage, GPU, and machine-learning instances. Pick the instance that fits your workload, and billing scales with the hours you run and the instance you select. There is no upfront commitment, so you can start and stop as needed.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit cover for a given instance type?
One unit is one running instance of CentOS Stream 9 with GUI on the AWS EC2 type named in that dimension. You are billed for each hour that instance runs. Each running instance meters separately, so two instances of the same type bill as two hourly charges.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped?
The hourly software fee applies only while the instance runs. A stopped instance stops accruing the software charge. Note that AWS may still bill for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but that is separate from this software charge.
Why does the price differ across instance types if the software is the same?
The software runs the same graphical CentOS Stream 9 desktop on every instance. Your hourly rate reflects the AWS EC2 instance type you pick, from small general-purpose sizes to large compute, memory, storage, GPU, and machine-learning instances. Bigger or specialized instances carry higher hourly rates.
