Telstra Purple - Well Architected Framework Review (WAFR)

The AWS Well Architected Framework Review (WAFR) is a single day consulting engagement, undertaken by Telstra Purple at no cost to the customer. The WAFR assesses an agreed workload against the six pillars of the Well Architected Framework, helping organisations produce stable and efficient systems.

The WAFR provides a quick and insightful assessment of workloads in AWS. Identifying opportunities for improvement and highlighting workload risks. Well architected workloads enable customers to build and deploy faster, mitigate technology risks, ensure compliance, be cost effective and sustainable on the AWS platform.

The output of the WAFR is a detailed report including a set of recommendations and a SOW for the remediation of those items. An AWS service credit of up to US$5,000 is provided for qualifying customers for the remediation of High-Risk Issues identified in the WAFR.

Operational Excellence: The operational excellence pillar focuses on running and monitoring systems to deliver business value, and continually improving processes and procedures. Key topics include managing and automating changes, responding to events, and defining standards to successfully manage daily operations

Security: The security pillar focuses on protecting information &systems. Key topics include confidentiality and integrity of data, identifying and managing who can do what with privilege management, protecting systems, and establishing controls to detect security events.

Reliability: The reliability pillar focuses on the ability to prevent, and quickly recover from failures to meet business and customer demand. Key topics include foundational elements around setup, cross project requirements, recovery planning, and how we handle change.

Performance Efficiency: The performance efficiency pillar focuses on using IT and computing resources efficiently. Key topics include selecting the right resource types and sizes based on workload requirements, monitoring performance, and making informed decisions to maintain efficiency as business needs evolve.

Cost Optimisation: Cost Optimisation focuses on avoiding un-needed costs. Key topics include understanding and controlling where money is being spent, selecting the most appropriate and right number of resource types, analysing spend over time, and scaling to meet business needs without over-spending.

Sustainability: The sustainability pillar focuses on minimising the environmental impacts of running cloud workloads. Key topics include a shared responsibility model for sustainability, understanding impact, and maximising utilisation to minimise required resources and reduce downstream impacts.
