Overview
In a live streaming workflow, a live encoder posts a live stream to Origin, which ingests it, creating a live archive on disk to stream from. Based on incoming requests from viewers, Origin dynamically packages the live stream into the requested format.
Unified Origin ingests one format (MP4, fragmented MP4) and packages it on-the-fly to all formats, including HbbTV, Progressive, and CMAF. It supports all the major DRM systems (Adobe Access, FairPlay, Marlin, PlayReady, and Widevine). AVC, HEVC, HDR, and Dolby Vision are all compatible.
To scale this setup for delivery to millions of viewers, there is a CDN sits in front of Origin and caches Origin's output to handle almost all of the requests.
Viewers can also start a show from the beginning or watch programming from the last couple of days. Origin can generate these recordings from its live archive, the length of which you can configure to suit the needs of your streaming service.
