lot of new features , functionalities but a few old basic functionality still missing
What do you like best about the product?
i used multiple bi products and microstrategy is still the best sql generator out there. by a long margin. i like the other functionality that gets added to it but i love the adhoc sql generation capability the best. i love the tech notes, support too. the new features are fine..i kind of think about them as keeping up with the trend..
What do you dislike about the product?
some basic technical functionality is still missing. distinct aggregation is one of them. even the cubes dont show distinct aggregation for subtotals etc., i also dislike the fact that whenever transformation metrics are added , the engine by default scans the fact tables twice.. instead of intelligently using the olap functions from sql or its own olap functions. this hasnt improved over years.
also, as a bi consultant , i sell microstrategy as the best adhoc reporting tool out there, however, it only serves 40 to 50% of adhoc functionality a business requires. we still have rely on analysts to write sql to pull the data to answer the other adhoc queries.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
its a nice tool. the benefits are similar to what any business that goes on a bi journey does. compared to the other bi tools out there, i believe it is better in terms of development provided the developers are trained on it.

What do you like best about the product?
MicroStratey provides all different kinds of tool/products, for example admin tool like OM, IM, developer tool like developer, web, products like mobile, web. Also Enterprise Manager is a good way to see how users adopt our projects and monitor the usage/traffic and possible performance insight.
What do you dislike about the product?
The complexity of MicroStratey products makes the learning curve too long. Many hidden features/properties need several clicks to find. Performance tuning is hard. it takes too long to build a fancy dashboard compring with other BI tools like tableau
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Enterprise level reporting, data integrity, possible to scale up, powerful SQL engine are reasons we chose MicroStrategy instead of tableau. We use MicroStrategy to analyze loan data and check loan performance

Good software, many options to create reports and dashboard, user-friendly and you can easily integrate code from sql, R, Python which is really useful to integrate your stat and analytics. Great design for data vizualisation.

Upload data from your own data base and create metrics takes time ...

Not that much from now I just start using it

Providing operational reporting to employees working in the field. Faster insight to actionable business items.
Good data visualization tool
What do you like best about the product?
The ability tell stories with my data thru visual charts and graphs and I think it is relatively easy to use, especially importing outside datasources..
What do you dislike about the product?
I don't some of the 'desktop'' user interfaces, it can be hard to find the tools you need.

I am getting data for a large gaming operation and giving business leaders the tools need to to make good decisions.
Improving the Reporting Experience
What do you like best about the product?
Working in advertising sales, we often need various ways of looking at reports to ensure we are evaluating revenue properly. Sometimes, the system from which we do our work is limited in variety of reporting, but Microstrategy has allowed us to access different ways of pulling reports, and an easier way of editing our reporting strategies when needed. It is easier to review the numbers we need to review with this system.
What do you dislike about the product?
The system seems a bit outdated, making it a little more time consuming to use than it needs to be.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
When our original system for selling is limited in reporting, Microstrategy allows us to utilize different methods, and have a broader glimpse at our numbers and revenue.

IT gets hard to support users because the tool allows a lot of freedom for the users ( creating reports, subscriptions...)
As an admin not easy to learn, requires at least a couple of Months of challenges
It takes times to configure the software the first time
Relaoding the data when you reboot the server takes time depending on the infrastructure
At first it was hard to trust data especially when comparing sales with previous years

c'est un outil flexible, on peut faire des tableaux de bord rapidement avec visual insight.

La souscription des historiques, l'envoi par mail fonctionne bien.
MicroStrategy est un outil puissant, il permet de faire des liens avec Microsoft office, même si je n'ai pas encore essayé. Ce lien ne peut fonctionner que si on utilise les "documents".
La gestion des utilisateurs est très complète, elle permet l'interdiction d'accès au tableau de bord mais aussi à la donnée.
les utilisateurs peuvent importer leur fichier excel et les croiser avec les données du data wharehouse existant.
Ils peuvent également extraire leurs tableaux de bord sur Excel ou faire une impression en PDF.

il faut avoir une formation poussée (technique) pour mettre en place cet outil. il faut une bonne infrastructure selon la taille des données, une grande capacité disque et une bonne RAM.
Il y a beaucoup de paramétrage à faire au niveau administrateur si on veut pousser toutes les fonctionnalités de microstrategy, comme la gestion des utilisateurs et interdiction d'accès.

Nous avons pu mettre en place des indicateurs pour les partager au sein de l'entreprise.
Toutes les personnes de l'entreprise ne voient que les indicateurs auxquels ils ont accès avec une bonne gestion des accès.
Ils peuvent créer d'eux même leurs analyses libres, en utilisant les cubes ou en reprenant les fichiers excel.

Il faut tout d'abord avoir une bonne infra structure et prévoir des environnements DEV, TEST et PROD.

Sometimes hard to clear the selections you previously made

This allows us to look at how our business is preforming in different aspects. We can compare sales, margin, turn YTD, MTD, and STD. It provides an easy snapshot of the business and can be easily used when in vendor and internal meetings.

What do you like best about the product?
MicroStrategy is one of the leading BI tools where it is robust in handling heavy user experience in multiple business domains. There are lot of products in this software which many clients have been using for several years and has been a successful BI tool across the globe.
What do you dislike about the product?
Licenses are expensive and support is not consistently effective when issues arise during development. Proper training is needed for users unlike Tableau which is more user friendly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Dashboards and visualizations interpret large volumes of complex data in the form of visual representations. This tool provides enterprise level BI solutions where the business users can report, analyze and present data in a very intuitive manner.
