CentOS 6.5 (x86_64) - Release Media
CentOS.org | 6.5 - 2013-12-01Linux/Unix, CentOS 6.5 - 64-bit Amazon Machine Image (AMI)
Great!
If you want to install cPanel & WHM, then Centos is the way to go.
RedHat is a hassle because you need to have that specific version registered to you so you can install cPanel.
You'll see what I am talking about if you choose RedHat instead of CentOS.

CentOS is a good productivity tools
CentOS is a clean and powerful operating system, easy to use.
It is free for commercial,I use it for years in many projects.
I like use familiar tools for save my times.
zombie
why after running this one with t1 micro the server keep lag 100% and saw 2 zombie in process... nothing install yet.
Light and Comfortable OS
It is easy, widely used so getting help from other users is also easy. I would surely recommend this to everyone who are looking for light and enterprise level OS. And yes, it is Free !
Stable for large project
It deploys fast and scalable. I used it both as a hosting environment with cpanel and as simple "testing" instance. In both cases it performs strongly well. My choice AMI definitely
+1 on adding cloud-init and HVM AMI please
Having cloud-init package installed should be standard across all distros.
Without this package user-data can't be read at all.
Also, with take over of HVM over PV virtualization type in terms of performance, CentOS should add HVM-type AMIs.
IMO, without those 2 basic cloud features, CentOS have not leveraged AWS.
Good image but needs a couple basic things.
The CentOS image worked well for me but keep in mind you will need to install a few things to get it usable. See below:
Install VIM Text Editor
yum install vim
Install wget
yum install wget
The usage instructions could be refined. They use 'ec2-user' as a group name and a user name. I would of preferred 'ec2-group' for group name so that it is easier to distinguish between them. Also this statement 'groupadd –g <500> <ec2-user>' shouldn't have a space between -g and <500>.
Finally, if you going to use Amazons Security Groups, you might want to turn off iptables since two firewalls could be a problem. Here's how:
At your Linux command line -
Turn off iptables:
[root@ip-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx ~]$ service iptables stop
Set Firewall not to start after reboot:
[root@ip-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx ~]$ chkconfig iptables off
Check status of iptables:
[root@ip-xxx-xxx-xxx-xxx ~]$ service iptables status
very nice service
i like AWS service , i have no words to say. we will continue choose amazon service .
The CentOS you know and love
We were setting up a webserver instance. CentOS is one of the most common Linux versions used for web servers and so it was the obvious choice. It works as you would expect CentOS to work, and doesn't cost any extra to run (unlike RHEL or SLES).
It is stable and supports all current commonly used additional Apache modules
The only thing that would make me rate it higher is if CentOS were to introduce a management system for CentOS similar to Yast in SUSE.
