Good Virtual Software

  • January 24, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It controls multiple Windows PCs from one console which is actually very cool and easy and flexible. It automatically shifts mouse and keyboard control to multiple PCs via a display matrix which is the best part of the tool that I like.
What do you dislike about the product?
They can provide more support by helping online with the tool. Also, another barrier that I see with the tool is that its Windows only compatible.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Could control multiple PCs with one console. Like the KVM (Keyboard. Video, and Mouse) software is very useful is controlling multiple PCs, one such is Multiplicity 3.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
For anyone interested to reduce cable cost for connecting and controlling multiple PCs, this tool is very useful in order to control multiple PCs.

My KVM review!

  • January 23, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
KVM has been for our company one of the best virtualization because It supports x86 infrastructure. It's open source and you can download it for free and use for development on your virtual machine. I would say it's easy to use when you know the commands and everything.
What do you dislike about the product?
What I dislike about KVM is the fact you have to know how to install it and it's not easy to install for everyone. Depending on the machines there may be incompatibility issues. The support takes more time to get a reply because it's a free product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We saved money with KVM because we needed servers with linux kernels and we just used KVM as virtualization. We installed many linux versions for the costumers and they were really greatful.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I would recommend to everyone If you want an open source and free replacement for servers then you can give it a try. Configuration is really easy and doesn't takes a lot of time. This is a good solution If you want to install Windows on it. Don't forget this is an open source product so you can really trust this product for your company.

KVM - Kernel based Virtual Manager

  • January 23, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It integrates into the Linux kernel and hence it is easy to launch - like does not need to be installed like other hypervisors E.g oracle virtualbox or vmware player. It exists in the kernel as a module and hence it is loaded when the kernel starts and keeps running
What do you dislike about the product?
the process of setting up virtual machines is not very easy and needs more knowledge and practice unlike using other user friendly hypervisors like Oracle virtualbox where everything is GUI based and can be done with the click of mouse.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used KVM as part of HP blade servers to spin up new virtual machines for various VNFs. Though there was an initial learning, but once learned it was easy to manage the VNFs - their lifecycle (instantiation, upgrade, downgrade, etc)
Recommendations to others considering the product:
KVM is the default hypervisor for Linux based hosts though other tools like virtualbox can be used.

KVM is flexible, available at no cost, but not necessarily for the faint of heart...

  • January 23, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that there's no licensing cost. I like the flexibility on tap. Overall with some technical familiarity you can deploy in [relative] confidence.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the steep learning curve, the lack of commercial support, and the finicky nature of the older, less mature versions. Centralized management is not really fleshed out, even though things like WebVirtMgr can be configured. Maintenance can be tricky. Migration from one host to another isn't very straightforward either.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
In areas where there's no virtualization budget but you need VMs, and can't or won't use VirtualBox or Xen, KVM is an option...
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I just read that Amazon is moving AWS away from Xen and towards KVM. That's huge news. I would imagine that it will only become better, more stable, and more fully featured with that kind of user base behind it, on top of the current base!

KVM handles everything we need

  • January 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We run multiple versions of Linux servers for several clients on a few machines.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing I have found to dislike yet after 2+ years.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We do server hosting for several clients who have a need for different versions of LInux - from RedHat 9.0 to CentOS 7.3. KVM handles all of the quite well.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
We run from one to four virtual Linux servers on one hypervisor. I understand KVM can run Windows virtual machines, but we have no need for that.

What do you dislike about the product?
The responsiveness of support when our company has had issues, could be stronger.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It provides a platform solution for Webmethods middleware, and for some Java applications running within Websphere.

RedHat Enterprise Linux: A Linux Distribution worth paying for.

  • January 11, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Linux operating systems tend to be very stable. Once you've set them up, they require very little downtime, except for patching purposes.
What do you dislike about the product?
Linux distributions can be difficult to configure if you are not familiar with them, and require a bit more effort to optimize than other operating systems.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
RedHat Enterprise Linux makes for a wonderful server platform. Once you have it set up, there is very little interaction necessary, you can just let it run.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are free distributions of the Linux Operating system out there. The value in RedHat Enterprise Linux, which is what you pay for, is the support the company offers you.
