The Oracle team is great!

  • January 15, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
While the software I worked with was customer service based and awesome! The Oracle team showed great customer service to my team as well! They wanted to know when we had problems and even came out to see us, working with us on what we can fix and change. The program itself helped us stay organized and in touch with clientele.
What do you dislike about the product?
The layout was a tad bit outdated, that needed work.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Staying in touch with our customers via email and Contact Us from the site.

Utilitarian and Simple

  • January 05, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
It's relatively simplicity for use, practicality and utilitarianism. Its pretty easy to get things done with it, but it’s not that exciting to use at all. Very useful user controls that can make it practical and helpful for getting your work done. It's useful for the professional work setting, for sure.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's often very slow to use, and has a very displeasing aesthetics appearance. It’s not fun to use. It’s bland and boring. It just brings down my mood. I start to feel really down and depressed some times when using it because it's just not fun at all and it just makes me feel like I'm trapped in a boring office building in the 1980's while using it! Needs improvement aesthetically. These things matter too!!! Practicality doesn't have to be everything!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It is used for emails and correspondence with students. The software is very helpful, and I like its cloud-centered interface that improves the interconnectivity of it. It's very practical and useful for work.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it for work, but it’s not good for much else beyond just a professional setting. That's what it is best for. Beyond that, it's not aesthetically pleasing at all and I wouldn't use it if I had a choice on what to use. There's way better options out there that you would feel better while using than this, but it's very practical and great for when you're at work.

It's similar to Red Hat/CentOS but with extra features

  • November 29, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Free updates. No registration required. They just work.
It has some extra features on top of what you get with CentOS. One of them - UEK kernel. It's newer than the RH compatible one.
What do you dislike about the product?
Oracle has very special reputation and because of this a lot of potential users do not want to try it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
If you want to use CentOS - then Oracle Linux can be a better choise.

Oracle OS - Redhat but redder

  • November 09, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?

This runs the redhat Kernel - therefore its widely compatible with anything that runs on redhat - they do their own interpretation of the kernel, or you can just straight up use the redhat one as far as I can tell.

The integration between the OS and the Oracle Database management software is as you would expect being as though it is from the same company.

A number of our large telecoms customers operate with this as their day to day administration software platform and are really pleased with it.
What do you dislike about the product?

If you submit a bug to Oracle, Oracle must then submit a bug report to redhat, redhat will then fix the bug, publish the fix, Oracle then takes the fix, runs it's own tests (and I'm sure edits it a bit to fit in with it's surrounding software) before fixing the the bug for the customer. If you were running and paying for the redhat service this gets simplified to: submit bug, bug fix, patch to os, so you generally find that fixing core things in Oracle OS takes a bit longer.

In my experience actually finding the image for download was a pain, having to actual sin up to Oracle's cloud in order to get the free iso. I guess the keyword is "free", but giving my company details away doesn't feel free.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Security & Database integration are pretty top notch
Recommendations to others considering the product:
try redhat first, if you find it's not for you, oracle all the way

Secure database software on Linux

  • October 23, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Oracle is one of the most recognized database software world wide. It runs on effectively on the Linux operating system and easy to use. It uses the structure query language (SQL) as a means of querying details.
What do you dislike about the product?
The software requires a large Hard Drive space or installation. For installation of oracle on windows server you also require high processing power
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Customer information can be sorted out easily
Recommendations to others considering the product:
its a good software and I would recommend companies to use it.

What do you like best about the product?
Great white papers from Oracle on best practices combining Oracle with Oracle Enterprise Linux
What do you dislike about the product?
Separate sales channels for Oracle Linux from Oracle proper. Lots of rookies in the sales group.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using OEL foe ease of installation and support of our Oracle workloads for things that are not on ExaData.

Oracle linux operating system is user friendly

  • October 03, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Kernel with support ASM native, it's not necessary to determine versioning ASM kernel, the repositories automatically download required versions, without dealing with license acceptance.
What do you dislike about the product?
IMHO (and professional), OEL is optimized for Oracle Products: Oracle Weblogic, Oracle DB, Oracle MySQL, Oracle Primavera, etc, but if my business don't need other Oracle products, so, I should analyze and using other distributions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Fast deployment of multiple Databases on client IT Bussiness, misconfigurations can put your data at risk, spend time and effort, OEL is faster to automated database deployments with Oracle Real Application Clusters(RAC) and PUPPET, it has helped me save a lot of time and effort.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Most focus for development Open Source and management tools
Would be buyers may want to look at Red Hat Enterprise Linux instead. It offers the same features and greater levels of compatibility with other applications
