Best OS for oracle database

  • April 26, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I have used oracle enterprise Linux os for backup server and media server. Backup performance have been always good. Used other clients with different os and it worked well as well. Rman backup is easily configured on this os.
Also, cloud support is there. All oracle products are supported.
What do you dislike about the product?
OEL adoption outside oracle is limited and not much enterprise is using it currently even though the kernel is stable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Used for backup admin and media server.
Has benefits in backup performance. Kernel tuning parameters has always helped configuring the media server to write at best speed.

I've had a great experience with Oracle Linux in test environments

  • April 26, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like the familiar environment and feel to other RHEL based distros, including the Yum update manager and utility, it makes script creation and other automation tasks much easier to write across multiple distro environments
What do you dislike about the product?
I have had issues with installing an iso that was mounted to a USB key, however, I've experienced this issue with centos 8 also, the solution is either to re-mount the iso to the key, or just use a hypervisor and run in a VM, I have not had any issues with installation when using a hypervisor instead of a bare-metal system.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I was deploying Oracle Linux in a test environment as a student, I used those deployments to host MySQL/MariaDB and oracle databases for coursework and learning. I quite enjoyed the experience as it felt more stable than CentOS 8 based VMS that I was also using

In my experience it is recommended in case of user need Pre-Configured Oracle on Linux.

  • April 25, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We don't need to configure the Libraries to configure the Oracle on Linux. Need to download libs one by one.We use Apache with it.
What do you dislike about the product?
License is what we don't like.
Most work is on the command line so that is another factor for disliking.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We configured our Oracle 11g and 12c DB on Oracle Linux for our Pre-prod and Prod.
Again the biggest benefit is that it helps us to configure our product very quickly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is highly recommended as to configure or install the Oracle on Linux manually.
