Nice dashboards for easy data analysis

  • October 24, 2017

What do you like best about the product?
You can have almost unlimited data cuts and views of your dataset, presented in an easy to digest way. It's a great tool for exploring your data without having to chart yourself. You save a ton of time, and can also use this to delivery data worksheets to clients. Win-win!
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau can be a bit slow, and also while fairly intuitive, took a bit of time for onboarding.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use tableau for analyzing the data my company collects, and then use that towards presentations for clients. I have been able to do data cuts that I wouldn't have thought of or thought to look into - and thereby got some interesting results for client deliverables!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
a great jumping off point for surface-level analysis

Dynamic and user friendly way to analyze data and operationalize analyses

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau is powerful in cutting data many different ways. There are also a lot of built in calculation functions that enables calculations like "YoY, MoM, Percent difference, cumulative". These are things we would've need another layer of query or data processing otherwise. The visualization component is also great and intuitive to use.
What do you dislike about the product?
Tableau can be a sluggish once we get into order of billions of records. There might be better ways or more efficient data processing best practices that we are not using, so I'm also keeping an open mind about that. It can also take a little bit to get used to pivoting data in Tableau and working with the labels and coloring display of it.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We've used Tableau to dissect user level data which has tons of permutations and combinations of ways to do. Tableau really enables us to do those very quickly and extract insights. We've also been able to set up automated dashboards that updates KPIs on a daily basis. This saves a lot of time on our team and increases internal efficiency.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Tableau is a great tool to help you visualize and dissect complicated data set. It can also easily connect with your data pipeline (we use SQL) to automate reports or KPI calculation. Your end users can then easily access the charts and dashboards via web link (may need Tableau server). If you have super large data sets (i.e., more than billions of records, you might want to consult with their support team on best practices around that.

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau allows the members of my team to understand the data that we have without having to be an expert in data science. Tableau's user-friendly interface is perfect for creating visualizations and data presentations.
What do you dislike about the product?
There is a definitely a learning curve with Tableau, and the performance at least on a Mac can be spotty at times.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We help companies understand the human behaviors around their big data, allowing for better insight into customers wants and needs. Tableau helps us turn data into easy to understand visualizations for clients.

What do you dislike about the product?
It has so many functions that it can seem overwhelming until you learn how to utilize each one.

Easy to use and intuitive analytics system

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau is a very straight forward and easy to use business intelligence and analytics software that helps you to analyze, visualize and understand data.

The user interphase as well as the included tutorials are very helpful and will guide you as you analyze different data bases inside the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
When using geographical data for analysis, the databases on Tableau are very detailed in the USA, but if you need to analyze data with coordinates of geographic referecese or zip codes outside the USA, it is difficult to do so.

Sometimes the user needs to work extra in detailing the different characteristics of a variable (ex. number, zip code, character/text, etc.)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Business analytics and automatization of data reports for various areas of the company.

Great for data visualization

  • October 04, 2017
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau allows me to take a large collection of data, and turns them into great visualizations. The design is pretty intuitive. I love that the product is well built out and mature--there are great communities.
What do you dislike about the product?
Not as easy to learn--it requires a significant training phase for successful deployments.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I work for a company with many and large sets, Tableau was a little hard to learn at first, but it helped me visualize trends with the data and make educated decisions on the product. I would have not been able to do this with excel. q

What do you like best about the product?
Tableau gives you a lot of flexibility to create graphs and dashboards to visualize your data
What do you dislike about the product?
Parsing your data to get exactly what you would like to graph/visualize is not as easy as other tools such as Microsoft Power BI
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Analyzing data, creating graphs, creating reports
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Also check out Microsoft Power BI to compare features and pricing

Great BI tool for the novice data scientist, but lacks functionality for advanced users

  • September 26, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
For those coming from Excel spreadsheets and workbooks, this is a great tool that's very friendly and easy to use. You are easily able to connect to data from many sources and easily visualize and aggregate information.

The server works very well with Desktop and with features like alerts, email subscriptions, and auto refreshes, this is far superior to the industry gold standard Crystal Reports.
What do you dislike about the product?
For advanced users Tableau is very limited. It is very limited on count distinct and usually requires a "hack" to get most things working. As an example, combining sums and count distinct in a single sheet is not easy, especially when dealing with calculated grand totals.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Key reporting on financial and operational data to solve day to day problems.

Powerful and easy to use

What do you like best about the product?
Drag and drop report build; custom calculations
What do you dislike about the product?
There's a bit of a learning curve for formatting. I'm not sure if this is truly a dislike on the product or a matter of manipulating my fields to show value in the visualization. The same data points in different periods don't always highlight a trend; so I will manipulate towards something actionable.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Transformed data in to actionable information.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
I have not used the server version as it can get pricey.
