Works well, but need AMI options

This works well. I have several of these deployed. The only issue is that the AMI is on c4, and the c5 AMI's are cheaper.

Solid solution for VPNs and inspact outgoing/ingoing traffic - nothig more

What do you like best about the product?
Configuration in CLI is still old PIX CLI with some new changes... Configuration and debug are in "Cisco" style - solid and good known...
What do you dislike about the product?
Evolve... PIX/ASA is 5 years in the past. Competition offers more. But if you want just configure access out or in and you have few branches you want to connect to your network via IPSec, this the best solution...
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Missing antivir, antispam, uselles web management... Easy configuration and troubleshooting wia CLI.

A workhorse firewall with a long legacy

What do you like best about the product?
I went to school for networking, and my curriculum was very heavy on cisco routers and switches. The fact that they use the same (or similar) syntax in the firewalls allows for a those with cisco router and switch experience to transition easily. However, what I like most about the product is the simple command line configuration that I can script ahead of time. Other firewalls such as fortinet or palo alto are a pain to configure from the command line.
What do you dislike about the product?
I dislike the lack of troubleshooting capabilities for routing. On a cisco router you can do "sh ip route
" and see the exact route that the address is taking. On the cisco pix and ASA you have to do sh route | include
and hack off octets until you find one that MIGHT match.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As an MSSP, our customers prefer Cisco firewalls because of their long legacy as a stable and capable firewall platform.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you have a strong background in cisco devices, Cisco Firewalls are the way to go. However, if you are looking for something that performs excellent layer 7 firewalling, I'd suggest a Palo Alto over any of the cisco layer 7 firewalls.

Adequately does what is needed

What do you like best about the product?
I like that I can access my desktop and other various applications through a non-work computer (my home computer, in-laws computer if I'm on vacation).
What do you dislike about the product?
Through various updates it seems that some of the buttons don't function as well as others - this may be an internal IT issue, but for example I have 4 or 5 options for a remote desktop, but only one of them actually works.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Being able to remotely access my desktop or various software only available on my work computer if it is stationed at work. Great if you forget to bring your laptop home, or need to log in quickly while your work issued laptop is unavailable.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It is a good product if you need limited functionality.

    Government Administration

No one ever got fired for buying Cisco

What do you like best about the product?
Clean command line, and the ability to quickly navigate the device over CLI. Uniform IOS CLI makes it easy to manage with simple cisco route/switch background. Ability to run for long periods of time without intervention. It doesn't do random things, or act funny and need a reboot. It just runs and runs. It's also a bit like a swiss-army-knife for the network. You can divide traffic up how you want to. Multiple NAT pools, source based routing, etc. QoS and packet prioritization. It can even provide DHCP and other basic network services.
What do you dislike about the product?
On Cisco IOS firewall, I have been unable to get a given NAT group to utilize a NAT pool of address with PAT overload. Since I was overloading the NAT group, I eventually needed to switch over to PAT only, which was an acceptable solution, but not what I had wanted to do. Debugging can also be difficult.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have used Cisco IOS firewall in places where I already had an existing router need, so the IOS router was available. This has been cost effective for small sites. The benefit has been a low cost firewall, that provides solid firewall and VPN functionality.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you don't currently have IOS expertise in-house, you are best off looking at other products that provide a more intuitive graphical user interface. But if IOS administration is not a deal-breaker, cisco IOS firewall is a solid, basic firewall for small offices and remote branch offices.
