Standard linux distro

  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I like that openSUSE offers both GNOME and KDE environments. Unlike many Linux distros, it's also pretty accessible to the average user- the graphic-based interface makes learning it a simple affair. With Gnome, though, you also have the option of keyboard-based action, which can be significantly faster for some users. Also, it's pretty cool looking.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's only available in 64-bit these days. Sometimes I like to breathe new life into old laptops that come my way before passing them along, and I often can't use this distro for lack of hardware compatibility and support.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
OpenSUSE provides a free desktop operating system. As such, it solves a number of business needs from Internet access to email to word processing.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
There are so many Linux distros that meet just about every use case. Shop around until you find the one you want. openSUSE is a great choice because it's super flexible and actively developed.

One of the best Linux distributions

  • July 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
One of the main favorable points is how easy it is to install; in just a few steps, you can enjoy this excellent operating system, to the extent that the ease of repartitioning the disk allows the user to enjoy other operating systems on the same device. Another point to consider is customization, as it includes several desktops to personalize the desktop to our liking. Additionally, it has extensive support from the community and also has support for up to 18 months from the developers. Without a doubt, one of the most stable and customizable operating systems within the Linux world.
What do you dislike about the product?
The main negative points are those that can be found in any other Linux-based distribution, such as the lack of compatibility with this system for some programs, games, and even hardware. On the other hand, prior knowledge about handling Linux-based systems is required, as this distribution is not aimed at new users.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has allowed us to create safe environments for application development, considering a possible migration to this type of systems and verifying the compatibility of the applications.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Having knowledge of installing applications in a Linux environment is essential when managing this software, additionally it is necessary to know what this resource will be used for, home, business, or study.

Complete, lightweight, free ...and ALMOST perfect!

  • July 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Software 100% free in any distribution. Security is one of the most obvious advantages since, although not 100% secure, we are not affected by viruses. Ease of program installation.
What do you dislike about the product?
I miss some programs that I can't start, such as AutoCAD. It doesn't have as simple and intuitive a use as other suites. I notice a lack of hardware and games and most importantly, in general, there are some powerful software programs missing that are necessary.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
A very stable system with 3D desktop effects that does not envy any other OS. Although the development is fast, it shows a degree of difficulty above the competition, even though new versions of OpenSUSE are regularly released every 8 months.

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I used it for university homework and projects, using opengl and webgl for physics simulation.

LEAP into action with openSUSE

  • July 20, 2018
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
openSUSE has, hands down, the best KDE desktop experience of any distro out there, it has great theming and the defaults are pretty much perfect. On top of that, you have YAST2 for config in a nice visual manner, but can drop down to the command line for either finer tuned control than the GUI gives you or if you’re just more comfortable with it.
What do you dislike about the product?
Getting mono to install the way that I want to has always been less than comfortable, but that is, I think, more on me than openSUSE.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Using openSUSE LEAP to spin up some low powered VMs for PoC servers is really fantastic, that has allowed much greater flexibility to myself and other devs.

A reasonable open source operating system

  • July 20, 2018
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Definitely better than Ubuntu because it adds the latest and greatest features.
What do you dislike about the product?
If you are installing openSUSE as the only operating system, this is a good system to have. However, openSUSE is not very intuitive to use with other operating systems like Windows.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use openSUSE for academic research. Because it’s relatively easy to set up and has the latest security features, this is a great choice.
