Fast and featureful
What do you like best about the product?
Postgres is a fast database packed with features and always getting better. Most of the time I just need to use ANSI SQL, but sometimes I need something special to solve a problem and postgres always seems to have just what I need. The licensing is good too, where I'd be afraid of getting locked into vendor-specific features and getting stuck with Oracle, but with postgres I don't have to fear the vendor providing the software.
What do you dislike about the product?
It can be a bit more work to get things set up vs something like mysql. The bit of extra learning curve is well worth it though to get a proper full-featured RDBMS.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Storing data with strong consistency and being about to step outside the usual relational system when needed.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Use it.
Linux client difficult to adjust but worth it
What do you like best about the product?
very flexible, good community behind it supporting each other, lots of web resources. Small footprint
What do you dislike about the product?
It was an adjustment to all CLI Linux database as I'm not a DBA but it was worth figuring out.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Local database that was application specific that could eventually be clustered if desired.

What do you dislike about the product?
Replication is harder to setup unlike other Object-relation Database server .
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are using PostgreSQL in our API structure, he can handle an enourmous amout of queries fluently .
Best in market for relational DB
What do you like best about the product?
It has very simple UI and offers all features of DB CLI
What do you dislike about the product?
Should be able to support some optimization suggestions on commonly made mistakes.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data storing and triggers.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Validate your use case that it surely requires Relations DB or not. If it does than 'PostgreSQL' is best bet for you.
Convenient tool for end users
What do you like best about the product?
Used PostgreSQL for more than 4 years on 2 different jobs. Convenient and easy to learn. All main stream functionalities are there. No fancy add-ons.
What do you dislike about the product?
When I used the software it did not support tabbed query editor, so I had to switch query windows fairly frequently, adding a little difficulty to use. Now I guess they must have changed.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Exploring relational database - designing reports and downloading data for modeling purposes. The benefits included easy access to database and easy to manipulate intermediate results.
A serious DB for serious usage
What do you like best about the product?
PostgreSQL's reliability and robustness is impressive.
What do you dislike about the product?
Nothing comes to mind when thinking about negatives.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
High volume data storage with fast lookup.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Take advantage of PostgreSQL's built in capabilities, such as hstore, which allows PostgreSQL to achieve NoSQL like (schema-less) quality without reducing it's robustness.
