Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Core: Maximizing Efficiency

What do you like best about the product?
What I really love about Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Core with Containers is how it simplifies the whole process of managing and deploying applications. It's like having these neat little packages, called containers, that you can easily move around and run on different servers without any hassle.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes, older software or applications just don't play nice with containers. It's like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole – it can be frustrating trying to make everything fit together smoothly.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Microsoft Windows Server 2016 Core With containers, it's like packaging up your applications in little boxes that contain everything they need to run. So, instead of dealing with a bunch of complicated setup steps, you just deploy these pre-packaged containers, and boom – your app is up and running.

Please update this to the newest Windows version 1709!

  • March 22, 2018

The version 1709 - Fall, Creator's Update was released on 1/18/2018 - Now, more than 2 months later, this image hasn't yet been updated!

I need this update for providing .NET Framework 4.7.1 builtin. Updating the framework from this AMI requires a reboot - which I can't do, since I use the ami directly in a Launch Configuration for an autoscaling group.
Now, I have to make my own AMI with sysprep - which is *SLOW* to start up, due to an extra forced boot during the sysprep process. Working with Windows images is a *PAIN*. I think I'll start looking at using container's for my IIS servers instead.

It would be very handy if AWS at the very least would publish a release schedule for planned updates of their Windows images.

Please, also list the Windows VERSION of the AMI - like 1607, 1709 etc.

Old outdated version of Windows Server 2016

This version of Windows Server 2016 is outdated and is only 1607. Microsoft released version 1709 two months ago with fixes for DNS routing mesh, which is used in Docker Swarm container orchestration. Please update to 1709 so we can use Windows Server 2016 and Docker Swarm overlay networking sufficiently.
