A flexible OS for both web hosting and personal computing

  • July 04, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I love to work with the command line interface and Ubuntu has everything which I need, a black terminal and commands. I don't like the Ubuntu interface because it is not easy to understand. If you need anything, just work with the terminal. This is the best platform for the website hosting.
What do you dislike about the product?
You definitely need to have a solid understanding of filesystems and how to locate things - that was the largest barrier to entry for me. Once you develop this knowledge and learn to work a little at the command line, you're good.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are able to run computers and private servers with great flexibility. We can implement extensive network setups with Ubuntu's terminal, which I think is one of the most developer- friendly applications. It is also the default way to use the power of bash, which is convenient for us. With all of my experience, I have had very positive and smooth experiences working with several versions of Ubuntu. We are able to use local integrated app menus, the utility launcher and the very helpful minimizer. Locking it has never been easier and it works really great with VMware. We can generate high quality graphics and above average speed. The installation process was also easy and allowed us to get rolling with limited waiting time.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Ubuntu is the free Operating system. you can download it at your end and install it. If you are a developer, you can use as a web server. When you are familiar with this, just go it live. Use Ubuntu on the live platform.

    Computer Software

A beautiful Open Source operating system

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is one of the linux distributions that offers a functioning software centre. In addition to all the beautiful features of linux it still offers this too. Ubuntu also offers a well-organised directory structure and that is easy to navigate even for non-technical people and a powerful command line for power users. The searching on ubuntu is also blazingly fast as it indexes all files starting from root.
What do you dislike about the product?
The learning curve is a beet steep and sometimes if installing applications can be a bit tedious especially when building from source or when you run into dependency issues
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I use ubuntu as my primary OS and it solves all my business problems, I use it for my everyday tasks which range from software development to leisure activities such a watching movies.

What do you dislike about the product?
Their app store is so poor and I was really like snap store but it still has a ton of issues
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
it takes 30 minutes to set up my development environment on it which is identical to the production env

The Most Used Debian-based Distribution in the World

  • June 28, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The default repositories, which are full of packages of all sorts and kinds, also the fact that is one of the most easy-to-use Linux Distributions available all over the internet. It has lots of Long Time Support (LTS) versions, for the ones who do not like to keep updating your Kernel all the time. Full of features, Ubuntu brings in as a free, resilient distribution that anyone can use, knowing terminal commands or not.
What do you dislike about the product?
Well, the APT (Advanced Package Tool), the default Ubuntu package manager, is not the ideal app manager: it is not fast, its syntax is too long for doing simple updates or installations and it's not good for dealing with external repositories. For Ubuntu is made on principles of ease of use and accessibility, it is not an clean distribution, from factory, Ubuntu brings in lots of tools and gadgets that are not exactly necessary, specially if you are an regular Linux user or developer, Ubuntu could have an minimal version.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We replaced Windows system in our crowld's Desktops using Ubuntu. As our employees are
accustomed with Windows interface, we used Ubuntu with Deepin as display manager, they almost didn't noticed a big difference, and for us, we saved 38 Windows licenses, which are not exactly cheap.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need an easy-to-use Linux OS, and like to have lots of gadgets pre-installed on your system, also if you're not a regular Linux user or do not use at all and need it now, you found an almost perfect solution.

What do you like best about the product?
The ubuntu I like because it is a free and open source operating system. The security it has is very robust and I like it because you can add any number of features.
What do you dislike about the product?
The use of ubuntu is not very common in companies. PC games for windows are not compatible with OS. We will always be writing command in the OS terminal.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Linux is very robust, stable and fast: Ideal for servers and distributed applications

What do you like best about the product?
Ubuntu is hands-down the most user-friendly Linux distribution out there.
What do you dislike about the product?
It does have a learning curb for a first time user, but aside that it's a great product.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Data analysis with various open source tools. Most of the analytical software is freely available on the software center and are extremely memory efficient to use.

My 4 years used Operating System

  • June 14, 2019
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
I really like it's the way of installing, it's really trivial, even if you're not a technical person, you can easily install and use it. When I decided to switch from Windows to Ubuntu the real reason was that its security standards are really high, as I carry the important files of the company, this was a perfect fit for me.
What do you dislike about the product?
The one that I really dislike is that most programs are not supported, especially games, so I'm using 2 different computers. When you download something regarding new application, it usually takes to the software center, which is a bit annoying.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Benefits: Customization, Ubuntu One Storage, Firefox and Thunderbird pre installed/

Problems: Some times it's freezing when you install or update something.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you're worried about security issues or your computer is not that powerful and freezing, just switch

What do you like best about the product?
My daily driver to be honest. It doesn't have all the apps but is highly customizable and personalized. It looks sleek and is fast. it also has support for Windows Apps so that's a plus point. As someone who uses the console for every project, I love this operating system. It's light weight , free, and secure.
What do you dislike about the product?
The first thing we see when we start using Ubuntu is that It doesn't have all the apps, although the introduction of snap apps has been some what helpful
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I'm building web applications more efficiently , I do not have to check for every software if it supports my operating system or not because almost every software related to web development supports Ubuntu
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a free, open source, fast and light weight operating system if you're looking for coding. If you're into gaming choose Windows or gaming consoles over this.

What do you like best about the product?
It is an easy to install and administer Linux distribution. I think is the best Windows option for personal use.
What do you dislike about the product?

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
An alternative to Windows and free!!
