SME review: Searchstax and managed solr with Sitecore
What do you like best about the product?
Analytics and reporting have become more productive and accurate, contributing to increased revenue. Since switching to Searchstax, search-related issues have significantly decreased. The managed Solr product also stands out, with its monitoring, reporting, management, and support all being highly commendable.
What do you dislike about the product?
It's not a complete dislike, but I believe it would be much better if there were a way to identify knowledge experts, such as through certifications, badges, MVP status, or a community list. This would create a win-win situation for businesses, customers, subject matter experts, and Searchstax alike. Additionally, holding public gatherings once a month or each quarter—such as expos, hackathons, or notification-based meetups—could help foster a more engaged community.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
As an SME, transitioning each search from Solr to Searchstax, including the integration and customization process, was an impressive experience. It never felt like a blocker, especially with the complete support provided by Searchstax. Utilizing Zookeeper within the applications offers full control over any custom requirements. This was also my first time setting up the app using the analytics features.
Surprisingly Does Everything I'd Expect!
What do you like best about the product?
I was pleased to see everything I'd expect from a SaaS provider. Their documentation is clear and well-organized, their admin console gives me access to everything I need, and I am paying a very reasonable amount. Love it all around!
What do you dislike about the product?
My organization is still new to the service, so I don't have any huge gripes (yet...?). The only thing that was a little annoying to us were the features offered in their "Add-Ons" weren't part of the main product, such as the Security or Private Cloud bundles. I would have liked to see these included as opposed to needing to pay extra for them.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
My organization was hosting Solr ourselves using linux virtual machines in Azure, but our knowledge of all the complexity of hosting the service has led us to downtime. We are moving to SearchStax to offload that expertise.
We use SOLR cores for one of our clients
What do you like best about the product?
Easy to setup, scalable, I was abble to the neccesory customizations.
What do you dislike about the product?
I didn't have that much experience with SearchStax to judge abotu the disadvantages.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Problem with reliable manages SOLR hosting. SS has reliable and easy to setup SOLR hosting.
High scalable and available solution
What do you like best about the product?
The solution offer <30 min SLA and able to recover from backup to support disaster recovery.
What do you dislike about the product?
So far I have not seen anything to comment on.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
we need highly efficient product lookup api to support high volume traffic.
Solutions Architect, Partner
What do you like best about the product?
Simple and fast to setup a scalable SOLR platform. Easy to understand pricing.
What do you dislike about the product?
We really don't have anything we don't like about SearchStax
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
On simple web hosting solutions they generally lock down the SOLR configuration. With SearchStax we can customize the SOLR configuration.
Banner Health - Aggregate Search
What do you like best about the product?
Ability to aggregate multiple subdomains under our family into a singular search experience. It has greatly reduced friction in the search experience we previously had that forced users to use a per sub-domain search for content.
What do you dislike about the product?
No real downsides with SearchStax, coordinating teams was challenging at times, but for such a large project this was to be expected.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Alleviated a Sitecore search experience that left much to be desired, moving to Solr has greatly improved the experience and we now have a singular site search vs multiple.
Exceptional, Prompt Customer Service from Industry Experts
What do you like best about the product?
Nb. We have not tried their serverless offering yet so this review only applies to the dedicated node / cluster offering.
They consistently go above and beyond with customer service.
They have consistently helped us when we have run into issues / queries we have had with our cluster.
For instance:
- Helping us debug some very esoteric indexing workload issues within the cluster
- Updating SSL certificates for the cluster to help fix problems on another vendors platform
- Upscaling our nodes when we were running into issues with workload at very little additional cost
- Being very accomodating in migrating from a public to a VPC'd instance of searchstax allowing us to run multiple clusters at once during the migration period.
In the vanishingly rare cases where we have had service outages search stax have been very prompt in identifying issues.

What do you dislike about the product?
Their dedicated clusters can sometime be a little opaque to work with and can hitch during their regular backup periods causing very short but notable slowdown periods at certain times of the day.
Their pricing is fairly high compared to rolling out your own solution. (But if solr is something you don't want to worry about having to manage they are certainly best in class.)

What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Hosting a HA, stable Solr Cluster is an overhead we do not want to have to internally manage/maintain. Search stax are great for handling the complex side of hosing a Solr Cloud deployment and acting as Subjet Matter Experts when we do encounter issues with workload specific to solr.
Great Solr managed service and easy to integrate with Sitecore
What do you like best about the product?
We first heard of Searchstax while implementing Sitecore and needless to say right after our first conversation we knew that it was the right solution for us.
Afterwards the whole experience was super smooth: it integrated perfectly with our project, the team was always present and the solution did what it was supposed to do. The pricing is very competitive and the implementation timeframe is pretty fast
Last but not least, the customer mananagement is very reactive/helpful in every situation and not only regarding mere technical issue so from a business and 'partnership' prespective it's extremly valuable.

What do you dislike about the product?
So far so good, so I have no suggestions.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Beside the product doing what it's supposed to do and being fully managed, it is very effort/cost efficient for us.
