Transactional Email Success

  • January 24, 2017
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
We've used sendgrid for quite some time for transaction emails. Works well, reporting is accurate, and we rarely have any technical issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
I'd like a better user interface for email marketing campaigns. At this time, I prefer another platform for marketing emails vs. transactional emails. A more intuitive HTML editor and inbox preview function would take sendgrid to the next level.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Clilent engagement. It is nice to be able to track and view trends on email data.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Do your research and determine what features are important to you. If you need to manage security settings, SPF records, DMARC records, etc. Sendgrid knows their stuff. If you need simple, intuitive email marketing, you might be better off with a simpler platform.

It's a great mass emailing product that connects to our database system

What do you like best about the product?
I don't have any problems with it. All of my emails get delivered on a personal level without any problems. I like all of the data that SendGrid provides me so I can accurately see the data from each email and I can see what works and what does not. I like that you can make your own template if you're good with that stuff.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's not much that I don't like about it. Sometimes it's hard to navigate the website and figure out what's going on. It's simple but also complicated at the same time because there's so much data it's sometimes overwhelming to figure out which data is best for you.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We need to send emails through our database and SendGrid gives us the opportunity to do just that. And it's free because we don't send more than 10,000 emails.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
It's a great platform with amazing instant data at your fingertips.

Okay

What do you like best about the product?
It is (mostly) simple to use. It has a great drag and drop feature to build campaigns, but you can tell there are a much smaller and more green company than the ones that have been around for a while (Constant Contact, Mail Chimp etc.)
What do you dislike about the product?
Technical issues occur all the time and formatting is not always smooth. You will build an entire campaign in the SendGrid portal and then go to send a test email and the footer background color will not be the same. There is also not an easy way to imbed videos. It is much more effective if you code your own newsletter, but most people want a simple drag and drop way to build a marketing newsletter vs. coding one.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Email marketing, consistent communication with customers, perfected and clean image. There are many benefits to email marketing in general as far as communicating with customers and maximizing branding but SendGrid itself hasn't perfected email marketing entirely just yet.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Check out other email marketing DEMOs before you sign up, but there is no contract and you only pay for what you use so it's worth a test.

Platform which depends on your sending habits

What do you like best about the product?
Dedicated IPs
Easy of Use
Whitelableing domain and IP
Good Support
Inbox Placement
What do you dislike about the product?
Slow website
Confusing Panel
Medium pricing
Non flexible invoices
I think customer success team must answer emails faster
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We could run email marketing campaigns with dedicated IPs. We have a full control over our reputation as an email marketer.
I comparison to other email services, I will recommend SendGrid. It is something that you can rely on them.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
High volume senders must use dedicated IPs. So control of reputation is with themselves.
All in all, users with more than 100K emails per month, use must buy dedicated IPs.

Complex marketing automation engine for media companies and agencies

Solid solution for transactional email

  • December 20, 2016

What do you like best about the product?
I've been using SendGrid as an SMTP server for many years now. It handles not only various account-related emails (signup confirmation, password reset, etc.) but also weekly community digests, private messages, and even a newsletter delivered via WordPress's MailPoet plugin. I suppose what I like best is that I haven't had to think about it, ever, except for setup and a few changes I've made over the years.
What do you dislike about the product?
I have a small side project that I needed an SMTP server for. Started by using my primary SendGrid account but realized that it was sharing the primary's suppression list and that was a problem in at least one case. SendGrid recently increased their prices to $10/month for the most basic plan that includes whitelisting, which is too much for my side project. I ended up setting up an account with a different mail delivery service.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I think it's pretty common knowledge that a dedicated SMTP server is the way to go these days, but I will say that a few years ago when I switched from using mailman on my web server to SendGrid, it was a revelation. The benefit is, like I said... no worries, mate!

Limited UI and automation functionality

What do you like best about the product?
Good for simple straight forward email marketing campaigns and very easy to upload a pre-designed template.
What do you dislike about the product?
Visual editor is very difficult to use. Limited ability to automate marketing campaigns. Probably one of the largest challenges is how slow it is. It seems to take a long time to navigate between pages of the site.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Sending large scale, one off or transactional emails is what this software is best suited for.

Simple and pleasant to use

What do you like best about the product?
Every time I had a question I was quickly able to get a hold of an Account Manager on the phone or a response via email. Also, the interface was easy to use. Mostly, the reporting was excellent. They offered plenty more options such as domain delivery which are not included in other email service providers.
What do you dislike about the product?
I disliked navigating the interface. I found it confusing at times using the marketing tools. Also, tried to get transactional emails going but they were in the middle of a change to a new software for drip campaigns so they only had a beta version available that was difficult to set up.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are trying to drive more traffic through email and have the traffic fill out our lead forms. Emails are a tough way to do this since click through rates have been really low but targeting previous consumers who have opened emails is helpful. Also, subject lines and using the reporting to target domains that are working better.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Better explanation on implementing and working with some of your features.

Great and simple for distributing mass emails.

  • November 08, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of editing email templates and ability to edit & segment marketing lists as needed.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish it would easily integrate with more CRM systems and allow for marketing automation. In addition to being able to link more events with Zapier.

You aren't able to see a recipients actions throughout their lifetime based on email address. So I can't open open John Doe and see all the emails I send him and which ones he opened and clicked.

I'm also not a big fan that the "send" button is right next to the "save" button. I've definitely sent a communication out to contacts on accident before.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Looking for a solution to send emails to a large group of people and have performance indicators available immediately. I use it to send mass email communications for our blog posts and webinar events. I also just discovered the WordPress plugin to allow for subscribers to automatically be subscribed to a certain list. It would be nice to have the ability to edit the form fields in the plugin and have multiple forms in order to subscribe to different marketing lists.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Its great for a simple, large scale email marketing distribution if you aren't looking to get to specific based on contact's interactions with the emails.

SendGrid Marketing Campaigns has potential

  • October 25, 2016
  • Review verified by G2

What do you like best about the product?
SendGrid is definitely geared toward a B2B client like me. I frequently upload lists from events we participate in and it doesn't block them like some other platforms I've tried. I like the segmentation options in the lists. Templates are all responsive. Sending is quick and I get good stats on the overall campaign. I can automatically delete the records that have hard bounces.
What do you dislike about the product?
Many things - but I've given feedback and I know they're working on them!
1) Can't change a contact's email address! If someone changes their address you have to delete the contct record and create a new one
2) Campaign info at the contact level is non-existent (ie I can't look at a contact record ano know what they've done for a specific campaign)
3) You can't sort or limit by date in the activity reports (shows you who did what kind of activity - open, unsub, click, etc)
4) If you're not an HTML pro customizing the templates is difficult.
5) Can't send a test email of the text version
6) If I need to send a campaign to a couple additional people I have to clone the campaign and create a new list with just those 2 people
7) Doesn't integrate easily with Salesforce so I have to manually add or upload new records
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Weekly email sends from a small startup software company.
